One issue is that Microsoft is so late to the party on mobile that their "Windows App Store" is going to be years behind the other app stores in offerings.
And for people like me who had a lapse in judgement and bought a Windows Mobile phone before, we aren't coming back just because they rebrand it. I will always remember the infuriatingly poor performance of the Windows Mobile platform and never come back.
I think a major factor for teenagers is that their friends have the droids, the iphones, etc.
It doesn't do anything for you in the way of "keeping up with the Joneses" to have a dumb phone that can only do facebook - no apps, nothing particularly cool about it. Kids/teens aren't satisfied if their friends all have better devices. They'd hold out or bargain (offering to contribute money, etc) for a "real" smartphone.
Minimalist is for a certain set of the market, and they are not people who want facebook in their pocket 24/7, and they are certainly not teenagers who want everything with as big of a "cool" factor as what their friends have.
They do, but the small amounts of data moved through to these devices has to be incredibly cheap. Otherwise they wouldn't be including it at no cost.
I'm very happy with my Sony Reader, which I purchased from woot for $100.
No lock-in to Amazon's proprietary formats, all the functions I need from a reader, no poorly done implementation of features I'd just use my laptop for instead.
That person had no justification based on his religion's holy text to do what he did.
He, by his own admission, committed a wrong solely on the basis of the greater "good" outweighing his deeds. (Which, ironically, has more in common with Islam than Christianity)
On the other hand, it requires no perversion of the lawyer in the story's holy text to justify what he is asking for. Of course most adherents are not violent, but those that choose to be can draw perfect justification from the holy text.
I thought the answer would be "Jones".
The reason why the Nexus One failed is because it was so damned expensive out of pocket.
There is nothing trollish about this post at all. I don't think that is a fair rating.
And I am R3F1NANC31NG H0M3 M0RTGAG3 4 P3NNI35 0N TH3 D0LL3R!!!!
Amazon already did this once, ironically with copies of 1984 that they found out later the publisher did not actually have the rights to distribute.
unless DRM puts some limits to that -
don't all amazon's books have DRM?
I wish I had some mod points.
And Android is based on "creaky old Linux".
Anything else stupid you want to say?
Well, Linux didn't suck in the first place.
I hated Windows Mobile more than I've hated any version of Windows OSs.
Words cannot describe what an absolute pile of garbage that was.
I would rather have tent stakes driven through my eyeballs than spend money on a Windows OS for mobile.
I would rather sit on a cactus doused in sulfuric acid than use Windows Mobile.
I would rather watch The Phantom Menace on repeat for a month while covered in bees and spiders.
I would rather have been given a writing credit for Battlefield Earth.
I would rather be in a relationship with Mel Gibson than use Windows Mobile.
Worst of all, I think I'd rather sign a lifetime contract to use a Kin.
How long until Washington starts claiming credit for it?
They should avoid holding the USB drive that way.
We've just come back from Tommy's funeral and you are talking about a skag deal?
I like how the "flamebait" label is reserved for posts from only one side of the political spectrum....
(go ahead, lay it on me)
On the other hand, you avoid the demonization that is part and parcel with being a "big corporation"
As usual, the only solution the small-minded can come up with is to tax something into oblivion
Conspiracy theories:
Error intentional, to improve perceptions of AT&T coverage!
Luke Wilson a cyborg!
Well, AT&T does say "More bars in more places"
You could still get more out of the two smartphones, with tethering, handsfree, use as USB mass storage, etc.
The KIN, however, is the perfect shape for coaster duties

They should just mail millions and millions of puppy dogs out to anyone and everyone on earth.
There should be organizers full of free AOL puppy dogs sitting on gas station counters and on tables in libraries.
AOL should announce that you get 500 free hours with a puppy dog at not risk, as well, just for checking them out.
(after which they will dubiously continue finding ways to charge you for years despite all your cancellations)

Well, at least they are bothering to pursue the execution through legal channels this time.
Progress is progress.
Proprietary concave bottom iCups FTW!
