Besides putting linux on every available device with some computing power, what benefit does linux on the mac have? I've been away from Apple products for quite a while. Is there a specific reason to use them? (Better graphics? Sound support? ROI?) What about compatibility? Is byte ordering problematic?
I think the lawyers at these big companies have gone batty. If they can't make an honest dollar to keep their business afloat, they sue to get the money they need. (Not that suing was stated as a preferable remedy) Don't this people realize that the slight increase in income they may make is in now way equal to damage they are doing to their image?
If a system that automatically ranks info was nearly perfected (I know they're working on it), it may be nice to try to implement it. There should be no human ranking. It would turn into something like/. moderating. If I don't like your software, you, or the car you drive, I could censor your info on freenet if "editor's" were used. We should keep all info, even flames. A classic example would be the holocaust. Most would say that it was pure evil, but does that mean we shouldn't know as much about it as possible? What about my favorite nursery rhyme? You hated it as a child. Are you going to censor that?
p.s. Do you work for a us gov't 3-letter acronym?:)
He mentioned he was looking at a dual processor machine. I assumed (maybe incorrectly) he wanted balls to wall speed. This would suggest he would use at least 4.01 maybe even 4.02. Also, there are open drivers for the geforce, but the closed ones seem to be faster. I would assume he would use the latter as he didn't say that he had a closed mind about using open source software as opposed to using what worked best for the situation.
We just got new dell boxes in at work and they came with geforce2 cards. They're quite fast 85-90 to fps in Q3. Uhmmmm.... testing network utilization. Sure. You only need to get the kernel module. insmod it and start X up. Works great.
Try looking for some older equipment. Recently at my place of employment, we throug out some old equipment. One of the device was supposedly able to read these disks and place them onto a hard drive. The hard drive was on a stand alone system connected to the device. Once you got the data off though, you could make as many copies as you wanted without losing further quality. I can't recall the manufacturer, but it was quite a large beast. (By today's standards anyhow)
By the looks of it, they are at least planning out the landing well. (Even if they do make it out to look like a cheesy game) That is more than we can say for our NASA peolpe who foget conversions. Would this even be a problem for countries who use the metric system the majority of the time? Or do they still have lingering remnants of the "English" system?
I believe there is also a limit to their size if limiting the flow of light. Sooner or later, the light would not be blocked and light would "flow" around the roadblock setup by the device.
IANAD (DOCTOR), but it seems like this type of treatment would cause more to damage than to heal? Is this another type of homeopathy (Like heals like)? This would be the only way I could see this working.
The next advance needs to be to have neutered genetically modified plants. Then after that, neuter the scientists. Leave well enough alone. Will these plants allow for precise remote monitoring? The farmer will still need to drive to the field. In which case, he can just check the soil then using the time tested method of "playing" in the dirt to see if it clumps.
Are they saying that the only damage done by the dust and tiny debris was by pelting the animals? It seems they forgot about about the similarities to a nuclear winter.(Blocking sunlight, temp changes, etc. ) Yes, the chemical composition of the percipitation was probably altered, (How's that for a sentence full of $25 dollar words) but I don't think that was the major cause. I believe starvation was.
I forgot to mention that getting prior approval is a necessity is an understatement. It is a CYA statement. Imagine how fast your job will go down the tubes when the Big Boss realizes that the major security breach that was highly publicized came from someone getting out of your toy honeypot. Not that they wouldn't try something if you got the approval anyhow, but it's usually best to lean towards the cautious side.
I've done this yupe of thing before. The only difference was that it was on a live box. It was fun to watch the cracker work there through the hoops to elevate their access. Of course I shut the hole before it was enlarged grossly, but it was one of the most educational security classes I've been through.
Seems somer of these devices weren't fully setup out of the box. They needed some calibration such as the mic to keep in proper working order. We also seem to lose some tools because something new comes out. Who in you work area doesn't want to play with new toys?
Is there any use for this in the consumer market? Like the blurb says, I have noticed GPS readings to be off 30 foot or so within a 15 minute period. This is pretty close considering where the transmitters are. But, will this make navigation systems in cars more reliable.
I don't 30 ft making too much difference in the middle of an ocean, but it does when chosing the right street in a town or city.
Since are always collecting stats on their visitors. At least google is being upfront about it. I'd rather be told that you'll be selling my privacy taher than them putting on a show like realplayer did back a while ago. By being honest, I think google did the right thing.
I don't think sys admins will be helped by this book. most sa's know about perl. There are already many references out there for free. Cpan. man pages. How-to's. Most problems a sys admin faces have been solved by someone else. It is usually a better idea to modify an existing work than reinvent the wheel.
It can take falls. Being run over. Nuclear attacks. BUT, can it take being used by most pc users out there? I'm betting our secretary can have it disabled in 2 weeks.
Now I can pack more stuff onto my cheat sheets.
It seems that the worse a company is doing financially, the more often it looks to "alternative income sources".
I'm sorry to hear that Apple isn't doing that well.
run 'strings win.com' on Microsoft's latest products.

Forgot to mention that we were using the latest binary X from Xfree86

How close are these companies tied to record companies? I can see just yet another breed of copy-protection that will cripple cool new tech.

Just so long as he doesn't reply... Depends.

It was a joke. Get over it.
