  1. The old adage if you think your application is fool proof, set a fool in front of it and they will prove you wrong.
    Same thing applies here.
I have driven many times in that area at night and people are idiots when it comes to crossing the street.
Drunk, not paying attention, not using cross walks. Arizona has one of the highest pedestrian deaths in the nation because of stupid people.
So if people are getting run over by humans on a consistent basis, it makes sense that a computer would run someone over as well.
This time the fool is in front of the car.

  2. Whats next? ASCII Pr0n app for IOS?
    Have we not evolved?

  3. I heard the employees who got fired were "shocked". Sorry couldn't resist(er)

  4. I would love to see a mixed mode of self driving cars. When you enter the Interstate the computer takes over. This would make the Interstate much quicker and safer. When you exit the Interstate you have the option of taking back control or using automated mode. Interstate driving in large cities sucks. People are freaking idiots cutting in an out, no turn signals, looky looes., etc. I would gladly trust a computer over the idiot next to me on the Interstate.

  5. What upsets me the most about $15/hour for fast food workers is that is more than we pay our social workers. Jobs that require a college education and help people. Any unskilled idiot who is willing to show up can work fast food, so why should they get paid more than other people who require college education and intelligence?

Darn do gooders are ruining my business model!

  9. Re:House loses most staunch Democrat on Speaker of the House Boehner Announces Resignation · · Score: 2

Do you not understand that under the category of "extreme" is "extremely good"?

Moderation is the mixing of poison and food..

Moderation is making a dam only moderately strong.

Moderation is a 747 pilot who's only moderately sober.

Drinking Alcohol (a poison) with dinner is moderation.
Building a dam moderately strong to specifications and not ruin the surrounding area due to over engineer is considered appropriate..
Moderately sober 747 pilot, that would be a step up for the normally drunk pilot, right?

  10. Blackberry not compatible with anything on BlackBerry Denies QNX Was To Blame In Jeep Cherokee Hack · · Score: 4, Funny

Having a Blackberry for work, I would agree with Blackberry as QNX not being the problem. My Blackberry is not compatible with anything and doesn't run anything, so I would find it hard that someone could write an exploit and actually get it to run on a Blackberry OS.

  11. Re:Why GPS? on Oregon Testing Pay-Per-Mile Driving Fee To Replace Gas Tax · · Score: 1

For the first time in history the conspiracists will have a legitimate reason to wrap their cars in tin foil.

  12. Re:not the real question on Chris Roberts Is the Least Important Part of the Airplane Hacking Story · · Score: 2

At DefCon last year there was seminar on plane hacking given by what I consider a definite expert. He was a commercial airline pilot and certified mechanic and a computer hacker to boot.
Other than the 777, the avionics of a plane do not use TCP/IP and therefore cannot communicate with a PC without a special adapter plugged directly into the avionics.
Awesome seminar, but the speaker did bring up the potential in the future if airplane builders were not careful.

  13. Re:It was an app on a WORK-Issued Phone! on Worker Fired For Disabling GPS App That Tracked Her 24 Hours a Day · · Score: 1

Fired the very next day?? I heard he was fired(balled) immediately right on the spot.
    Bad joke, sorry.

  14. Best Spot the Fed Story on FBI Releases Its Files On DEF CON: Not Amused By Spot-the-Fed · · Score: 1

The best Spot the Fed story I have heard was several years ago when DEFCON was at the Riviera.
The woman gets up and picks out the Fed. When asked how she knew, she became sheepishly quiet. After some prodding she admitted sleeping with him and while he was still asleep she went through his wallet and found his ID.

    Counter spying at its best!!

  15. Torture on Stephen Hawking Has a Message For One Direction Fans · · Score: 1

I took my niece to a One Direction concert, Arizona Cardinals Stadium, sold out. If we ever wanted to make an Islamic terrorist talk, use a One Direction concert as torture. A bunch of teenagers dressed provocatively trying to marry a band member. It would drive them nuts, as it did me.

  16. Extortion on Google, Amazon, Microsoft Reportedly Paid AdBlock Plus To Unblock · · Score: 3, Interesting

Correct me if I am wrong, but if someone creates a product that interferes with someone else’s business and then charges them a fee to stop interfering, isn’t that extortion?

  19. Ink Dye like the banks on Death Wish Meets GPS: iPhone Theft Victims Confronting Perps · · Score: 1

Wouldn't be awesome if you could activate an ink dye that exploded all over the person who stole your phone?
Recovering a stolen phone is pretty much hopeless, but at least you would have the satisfaction that the perp looked like a smurf.
Of course the downside, hackers would think it would be funny as hell to set off the dye on people they didn't like.

  20. Re:being against subsidies.... on The Koch Brothers Attack On Solar Energy · · Score: 2

The problem with AZ is that the power company was paying 4 times the going rate to buy power from solar panel users.
In essence making the rest of the consumers pay for people's solar panels.
If it were the going rate, I would have no issue with solar panels, but why should I pay more so someone else can have solar panels?

  21. Hourly versus Salary on In the US, Rich Now Work Longer Hours Than the Poor · · Score: 1

Most of the higher paying jobs tend to be salary, which 40 or 50 hours pays the same.
Companies are cutting back on overtime, so the lower paying jobs are kept at 40 hours or less.

  22. Women in Bikinis on Drones On Demand · · Score: 1

  24. Buy a decent camera on NYC Considers Google Glass For Restaurant Inspections · · Score: 3, Insightful

Instead of spending $1500, why don't they buy a decent camera with a flash for 1/10 of the cost.
Maybe throw in a tablet for $300 to help documentation.

The Glass sucks at low light conditions and high contrast conditions found in coolers and kitchens.
Using Glass sounds good, but common sense sounds even better.

  25. Its all about the Tax on How Airports Became Ground Zero In the Battle For Peer-to-Peer Car Rentals · · Score: 1

It all boils down to companies paying tax to someone one, be it the government or airports in this case.
As long as everyone pays the taxes, no issues. Try to bypass the taxes and lawyers shall descend upon thee.

SFO is cheap compared to other airports for taxes, in Vegas it works out to be about 50% tax on top of the rental bill.
