I'm set to graduate with a degree in CS next year, and sometime in the past 3 years I realized I hate working in the computer industry. I was too far along in my degree to change without a massive investment (2+ more years of classes) so I just threw a language on top. In my case I went with Arabic as it's in huge demand right now, and not likely to go away anytime soon. At the very least when I graduate I'll be able to actually point to a real skill I learned in college, as opposed to the more ephemeral CS topics I learned.
Initially I'll try for translation jobs with software companies, but eventually I wouldn't mind transitioning to pure translation and ditching the computer industry altogether.
There's not much to it. You lay out a feature set you'll be measuring similarity with and use some statistical machine learning method (most likely Naive Bayes.) A good paper to get you started is here. That's a link to Google's html translation, the link to the original PDF is at the top.
I'm actually wondering if Bill's comment wasn't a reference to the MOAB project. This greatly boosts my opinion that MS is helping to finance the MOAB stuff.
I have a similar situation with my girlfriend's computer. For some reason her XP box stopped working with the wireless network. We tried different usb wireless adaptors, different USB ports, and finally different cables. All her other USB devices work just fine but wireless is just dead.
We finally gave up and just plugged her ethernet card into her iBook and turned on internet sharing. Took 2 minutes for a Mac to solves Windows' problem.
That was launched just in the past year. Not using a trademark for over 5 years isn't going to help Cisco. The fact that they weren't defending it at all that entire time doesn't help.
The reason that is significant is that Cisco hasn't defended its trademark in the past. There are several products named iPhone out there. Couple that with the fact that Cisco hasn't used the iPhone name since they purchased it in 2000 and it seems they may be in some legal trouble.
i just tried switching and the delay is definitely still there. It became so annoying I replaced all but one (and that one will probably be replaced soon.)
Even if Apple just made the hardware chances are pretty good at this point in the iPod's popularity the RIAA would be sending their lawyers over to 1 Infinite Loop.
More interestingly is that Fox News scored higher than any other news source in the US. That means no other news source has even 11% of Americans trusting it. That says a lot about the public's view of the news.
Yeah $1.64 is more accurate. It pays to actually look at my terminal window while using bc.
I don't really use Netflix for new movies, as most new movies I either saw in the theater and want to own or I didn't see it in the theater because I'm in no hurry to. I absolutely love Netflix for TV shows, as there is no way I'm going to shell out $50+ per season for some of the shows out there but I wouldn't mind watching them again.

They're in it with the queers. They're building landing strips for gay Martians, I swear to God.
Forget Doom, we used to make ZZT levels based on sections of our Junior High.
France didn't seem to have a problem joining the EU, despite some free speech issues.
I used a mechanical pencil. When scratching out your eyes there's more than one way to do it.
How many did that one disappoint, I wonder?
:(
I know of at least one...

Didn't work for me either. Tries it on my G4 Powerbook with no results whatsoever.
How soon we forget...

Apparently it tries to seize control of PCs using IE. Currently it looks like it's just targetting Israelis but I wouldn't take the risk.

OS X "Masturbation Casualty"

Well let's do the math. 11 rentals at the "3 DVDs out at a time" plan works out to be about $0.61 per rental.
Still seems like a great deal to me. That's even ignoring any DVDs you get after the throttling kicks in.
Or perhaps a disgruntled father and a firearm is involved.
can't it be both?
The music industry is broadly unhappy with the fixed pricing
All Apple has to do to keep the industry happy is rearrange that to "price fixing".
History already shows that Kerry won Palm Beach County by over 100,000 votes.
So if there was election fraud it was either A) totally incompetent or B) not done by the republicans.
Apparently Google Video lets the person uploading a video determine what countries can and cannot view the video. So no censorship in this case.
