    Great analogy.

    Very simple, I would get arrested if I went and broke into someone elses locker, but if I broke into mine. I have the right to destroy my own property.

    I can blow up my car, I can kick dents in it. But YOU CANNOT. There is the truth. If reconized that we own the property, then we can do whatever we want.

    So, is the DVD ours? or a loner?

    Did you read that long brief? I have not heard so much bias in my life so... closely unvieled. IANAL of course, so it may be standard practice to:

    color the defendents as not willing to go to trial.
    Color the defendents as not willing to put up a defense.
    Color the DMCA as specifically taylored to prevent the exact thing we have now.
    Discovery was slow in the eyes of the judge.
    there are countless other things in this document. Hey, I am a bit biased but I expected some impartiality form the judge, I barely saw anything that resembled that.

    Basically, in reading this, there is no CHANCE IN HELL (as vince macmahon would say) for the Defendants to win this court case.

    Many people have come up with reasons that it must die. Most talk about its interface, and its "bloated" aspect. Lets discuss these things

    1. X is bloated. Interesting that you say this when you consider that you can run X from anywhere from a floppy to a 460 meg installation. X is what you MAKE it. It is NOT bloated.

    2. X does not have an interface that is usable. X is not an interface (splitting hairs?) X is a system in which, graphically, data is passed from a server to a Display specific client. This display specific client is the issue. Well, more importantly, it is the window managers. Well, I tend to like MWM, Fvwm, and even Gnome better than windows because I KNOW what I get. I get something I really can code in for one, and I get something I can replace if it does not do what I want.

    X should not DIE! because of the very simple fact that I can do whatever the heck I want to do with it, and so can you. With Windows do these things and open up a myriad of serious problems.

    Why is it, people think X is the problem with Linux? It is not X people... it is the fact that no one has written a really decent System Manager. LinuxConf does not yet come close to what is needed. Write this, and people will flock.

    Go get VNC and run X remotely and btw, run Windows remotely too.

    VNC is from AT&T and Free. search for it. I use it all the time, and I can run everything remotely.

    Here in VIRGINIA.. the lottery was supposed to go to education..

    Then why did we have a huge debate in our government on where to spend the money and our governor had to step up and pony the money to education and not other interests..

    How do you sue your state for failing to keep thier lottery promises?

    Now that is funny...

    Linux, MS, MS, Linux.. the battle rages on.

    Well, As long as the battle rages on, my work will sit comfortably back and not use either. *sigh*. I want linux here, but as long as it is compared to Nt/2000 it wont be...

    I need it to be compared to the real OS's of development. HPUX 11.0, Solaris 2.6 (and up)... And all thier nice real time friends. Stability, I/O, and all the rest are very very importal!!

    So, keep comparing linux to Windows and forget the reason linux could win, if they re-merge all the other unix products out there. If HP, Solaris, and BSD got together with linux... no stopping it at ALL!!

    I was a stress tester and let me tell you, the servers would go down every day, constantly. battle.net was NOT a haven...

    Of course, first thing ya notice is a new patch out already.

    I saw CmdrTaco and said Hi... during the "Meltdown" he talks about. He went from level 10 to 8 for that crash he said. I did not seem to lose a darn thing. My wife did not either...

    So anyone got quick ways of getting perfect gems?

    AS TO The linux vs windows thing. I hate MS, but I have win98 on 2 of my 4 network computers.. It is very simple... the games are not out for linux yet, and when they do, I buy them. But until then, I gotta get my Age of Empires 2, Homeworld, Age of Wonders, Diablo 2 FIX... I jones for good games..

    I play HOMM3 on linux :)

    I loved the old series "Star Blazers" and many of the other series like that. Robotech was so cool for the long plots. TAE had nothing on that.

    As to the drej sense of direction, the drej apparently were 1 ship and 1 race. and WHY were they scared of the Titan project? God, things that just sit and wonder are crazy.

    People complain about plot holes in Battlefield Earth. They should look at this movie, huge plot holes.
    1. Why drej dont like Titan??
    2. The dad dies? how and the captian got away??
    3. The captian turns in all of humanity, and yet was still able to turn the boy to saving humanity.
    4. Wouldnt that Ice shield have been blasted to bits with the constant ice bombardment over 15 years?

    There are many more holes. Animation wise, there was some cool scenes. I am still waiting for a movie that will make me believe its real, when it is animated. The old "Lord of the rings" movie tried radical animation with the massing of the orcs.. it sucked, but at least they TRIED new things.

    Oh well, hmmm donuts...

    Fine and dandy aint it... except a STATE can maintain that the seller maintains a presence in thier state. That presence is in each home called the Internet.

    A phone line is a presense and so is a computer internet connection. THUS you are in my state, thus we charge you money.

    Sorry, this will fly with the goverment. I think regulating taxes between states was fo taxes and duties to cross state lines. Well, if you sell something in my state, I wont charge you anymore than if you came from my own state -> perfectly legal.

    IMHO IANAL all that jazz - WE cannot STOP it, and it is perfectly legal. Bingo, now flame me if you must, but as long as our constitution is written that way, we are going to be subject to the state we live in.

    The company we purchased from was IN our state, and thus we are liable for state taxes. The method they are in our state is moot, they are HERE.

    Heh, Since I am a Solaris/HPUX programmer we use Purify constantly and the purify product line from rational.

    HOWEVER, I think that parasofts insure product line is sweet as well. If you talk about spending money, this is much better than electricfense or even most of the other windows products. The deal here is that parasoft is cross platform and support linux.

    This thing was bad plot, good animation. Not great.

    Get Akira and see what they were doing 15 years ago and see how we have come only so little forward in animation.

    Blah... Battlefield Earth was not bad.. was good for what they paid for it. 50 mill.

    I read the book so was not lost, if you have not read the book, do so and then watch the movie. Made it more fun to watch forrest whitaker play a psyclo.

    well you confused me :)

    A MUD does not use much bandwidth at all, yet the LAG is horrid because of the switching that happens. Why must companies that have bogged down and older routers NOT upgrade and speed up the whole bloomin mess??

    I got a lag monster that appears and eats people.

    Its funny, and yet, why? the internet design is correct, its certain routers... listen to us and you will increase the speed of the internet at least 50%!!

    Well, a lot of things here is pretty darn good, but sometimes jumping the "bandwagon" is not needed or even good.

    For one, it basically says dont mess with the trademark. If you USE it. It has nothing to do with reviews.

    I got covad/Concentric... at least it worked. Picus promised it months ago and then they get delays of "6 months" for one thing or another. The RBOC bell atlantic techs just have no clue why they dont have DSL themselves.

    its all funny. Hopefully I will not have an outage. Concentric's is a BUSINESS deal not a home deal too. 89 per month. 1.5m download and 384 upload. it is sweet.

    You are not kidding, Qwest is my worst problem for a simple MUD. It has horrible routers and they SHUTDOWN on ya at times. Lag is fierce across Qwest.

    Qwest has no speed increases in my book til they get decent sysadmins and routers.

    Yes, I am flaming qwest cause they do SUCK. expecially thier chicago routers.

    Aggghhh, I do my best learning of new features on the crapper. How else can you sit and read something through that can get boring as heck.

    If GAMES ever followed your lead, I would not buy them any more. I am not advocating piracy but one of the main reasons I BUY a game is to get the manual and learn how to play the thing right before bed, etc.

    Books wont be replaced, why replace manuals?

    When making a website effecient you must FIRST design it to get a lot of the clutter out of a website. The more clutter = the more crap = the more complexity.

    KISS - Keep it simple Stupid. That principle will help in the long run. If you limit your design you can limit the ineffecienies of coding.

    Design should be about 80% of the website's time to get up. If you can make the interface easy to the user, it will be easy for a programmer to build and UNDERSTAND what he needs to do. Then it is all up to basic coding tenets.

    911 is far from anonymous.

    I wonder how many times I would have used that number on people I hated when I was younger, or got in trouble, or just plain bored. I know the 1 time I was turned in for anything, it was a totally false accusation and it hurt me emotionally.

    I got a referral because someone claimed I wrote a paper. I presented evidence of my handwriting to the Vice Principal and I also proved my whereabouts. Care to know what happened? Nothing. They did not suspend me(I had a perfect record) nor did they do anything to the kid that had accused me( A total jagoff). I sent in samples of my handwriting to the principal and several papers That I already had written. It was obvious that paper was not written by me. Did it scar me? Yep, I grew harder for it. The thing that sucked the most? I had to fight him physically (and kicked his ass) later.

    I was 6 foot and played chess. I got run over by a classmate and all he had to do was pay for my glasses at the time. (I called the police). I got into a fight on the bus to prevent my sister from being sexually assaulted on the Bus.

    Its like this, WAVE will not do any good anyways, School administrators only want to pick on the "outcast" and not the people who do things. It is cool to pick on the outcast, even the teachers do it.

    Never fret, I have a great job, Wife, Kid, and am alive to write this note. all is not totally lost.

    I may be an idealist, but I dont really CARE that MS gets broken up or not. I want to run the best software I can that does the job. Free software is part of the overall compensation of a program sure, but I will not run crap.

    I have linux as my server, firewall, and mailserver. I have MS stuff as my mail reader (outlook) and my game machines.

    I would hope that people think on this. Are they after WAR to motivate them? Then they are putting out crap without pride.

    I would hope the reason you are contributing to Open Source is to make a better product. To Build something because you can and not because We are at WAR with other programmers. MS has done some crappy things but that aint the programmers fault. That is the PHB (Pointy Haired Boss) types that run MS. If you sit and think about it, how many companies do the same thing or try to. Only difference? MS had the power to do it.

    Now go play nice and make great software.

    Yep I registered my complaint on the Bill.

    1. It would have helped if I had KNOWN the bill's number for the senate. Instead they will have to look it up.

    2. The woman was shocked on the other side when I told her the ramifications of this bill if passed. She had no clue as to the fact I would be AGREEING to a licence I had never seen nor could see.

    3. She mentioned the basic warrenties Act. Something to the effect that if something is defective when you purchase it you have the right to return it. Since every COMMERCIAL software product I own has bugs, does this mean I get to ignore this new bill?

    4. I contacted the people we were told to contact to volunteer. They are SWAMPED and apparently for at least the house bill I was not contacted in time. Being busy like they are, they need I guess basic help!

    I am a viginian on a warpath.

    If anyone knows the bill's number in VA for the senate, let me know. I probably can get several other people to call in directly.

    Let me know by repling to this with the bill number. User preferences is sweet that it tells you you were replied too.

    I gotsta get back to work.
