I'm kind of envious of his 'balance' he has going on. The most balance I ever saw was an ongoing battle I had with an enemy that lasted several centuries...I had more tech he had more units, it was an interesting war with me finally winning, but that scenario only ever happened once.

When apps become browser-based apps, we 'might' see more switching. But I still doubt that...I had a few (non-techie) friends that wanted the next Windows desperately, even though they didn't really need it, they only used it for nothing more than a simple OS, and when they got it they complained about how this and that was changed. One was totally confused that the Start button was gone. Yet if I mention changing to Linux, they don't want to, even though the change required is not much different than the previous Windows OS.

I don't think Linux is the problem, people are the problem. And until the general population is willing to accept change, we'll be stuck here forever.

  18. Maybe speeding will get you fined, even the games where you play the hero, people invariably 'break the law' whether it be from speeding, accidentally shooting the wrong person, etc. I know in the last GTA you could drive drunk and MADD tried to have the game banned or modified to not allow that, but if you actually tried driving under the influence in the game it wasn't fun at all. With these tiny machines becoming more and more powerful, hell we've got quad-core tablets now, I suspect we will have just one device with which we can do most anything on a personal level.

Even for the hardcore gamers, the future device could run the game, just need a larger screen and an input device(s) to be able to use it properly. I like Angry Birds on the handheld, it's a simple yet fun game, but I couldn't imagine trying to play StarCraft 2 or Civ 5 on it, assuming it even had the processing power.

This way all of the preliminary and dangerous work can be done before the occupants arrive, obviously not totally risk-free, but I think it would be our best bet at a good price.

Not to say that's likely to happen anytime soon, as the US blunders it's way through fiscal irresponsibility. Billions wasted each year on trivial matters and govt departments that do nothing useful. NASA is doing poorly in the space race, and to say the replacement for the Shuttle is still several years away with nothing in between is really disappointing to say the least..

The only people who like these are the lawyers, it's keeping them employed, but it means everyone else is suffering, like the buyers and the shareholders. Money that could have been spent on R&D or expansion is now going to legal costs, on top of that many of these tech companies are hoarding their ridiculous IP ideas hostage so that if someone else wants to create a new product they have to pay licensing fees in order to do it legally. And I'm sure there have been some great ideas that have been scrapped because of licensing issues. People can complain all they want about this patent problem, but the root of the problem is people being greedy. I swear if there's one attribute that humans have that we really don't need, it's that!
