If it were up to me (I know it's not, so shut up;_; ), I would put it in the public domain and pretend I wasn't the one who wrote it. Then I'd be all "Oh wow, Java's so cool, you can even download all the source code for it!"
And then I'd get featured on slashdot as "Sun's Java Went Open Source" instead of some silly speculation that Sun might make up some magical license that lets you look at the code but not do anything w/ it.
Will open sourcing Java source code mean that the language will get submitted to a standards organization like ECMA or ISO or something?
The telemarketers get all of your details from the credit card companies, so they don't need you to give any data, all you have to do is pick up the phone.
Has anyone here actually bought ANYTHING from a telemarketer who called you? I have never purchased any good or service solicited over the phone
Actually, yes, you did. Don't believe me? Go back and check your credit card bill.
Even if 99.9% of people they cold-called call back and demand that the charges get removed, enough people won't call back. Do the math and you'll find this is highly profitable.
Chris: I'm pro-piracy. I want people to play the games I make. I do it because it's art. I think DRM is a total fucking stupid mess. If the game industry collapses and can be reborn, I'm all for it. Pirate on!
Greg: they're not pirating the game! Someone bought a legal copy! The world is not designed in such a way that money inherently funnels its way into your wallet!?
Warren: I never minded piracy. Anyone who minds about piracy is full of shit. Anyone who pirates your game wasn't going to buy it anyway!
There's no way in hell I'm going to buy something "just because". If there was a way to give money to Studio Pixel (the guys who made that free platformer, Cave Story), I would shovel heaps of it upon them. But I'm seeing here 3 top game creators saying "Pirate our stuff! We don't care!" I fail to see what that has to do w/ alternate distribution methods.
I deeply enjoy my Shuttle SB65G2, it works reasonably well w/ a P4 and an ATI FireGL X1, but lately I'm more interested in dual CPU systems over dual video cards.
I don't suppose anyone knows if Shuttle is planning a dual Opteron system or something similar?
I'm sure that the mods can download the source code to gaim anytime they want and see for themselves that neither oscar not toc send IMs directly to other people...
I'm pretty sure this is wrong. Everything goes through AOL's servers.
And it couldn't possibly be any larger than the amount of data Echelon has to deal w/ regularly, my guess is they're doing this as a way of appeasing the govt. "Sure, we'll change our privacy policy, but please allow us to use your beefy data centers..."
Wow, the next time someone says "Don't pirate that game, download the demo and if you like it, buy it!", just point them at that "Burn the House Down" rant. Here are gaming's top people, all saying "Pirate my software!"
Your commute is 3 hours driving. Is there any way to get to & from work via public transportation?
I know you don't wnat to sit on the bus or train w/ strange smelly people, but I've found that if you listen to music while mouthing the words, people will give you wide berth. And being able to play video games or read a book or something will make up for having to wait for the bus/train and having to walk to & from the station. At the very least, it must be less stressful than driving, right?
(I'll track you down and kill you if we don't get a followup to this story, maybe a year from now or something...)
Didn't the gamecube version make them a metric fuckload of cash? Won't Nintendo give them even more cash to make it gc exclusive? Didn't they have very tough time making RE 5 look good on the PS2?
You've got to eat healty, cut out the chips & cookies and soda.
Also, you can't be working 12 hours straight, because if you don't get up to walk around for a minute every ~45 minutes, you'll go blind. Anyone who tells you otherwise is begging for a visit from OSHA.
I walk the 30 minutes to & from the lab. (this gut isn't going to go away by itself...)
I keep the hot water off when I'm taking a shower. (we've only got a 60 gallon heater, and I've got to wake up anyway...)
I turn the heat off in the lab when everyone leaves. (I've got a sweater, gloves, and hat, word to my man, Jimmy Carter!)
I turn the computer off during the day when I'm not there. (It's not like anyone's going to IM me anyway...)
I used to be able to say "I run the washing machine & dryer at night so it doesn't strain the building's grid" but, surprise! Some of the new tenants didn't like that...
Never be a whore. If they won't change the agreement to allow you a simple summer internship, then walk away.
Even if this ends up being a really lean summer, don't give up your pride... Maybe one of your professors has research money or something.
Is China getting softer? My understanding is that such audacity would have earned those people bullets in the backs of their brains...
I can't believe I was so wrong about this, and yet I read TFA.
Sorry about that. ^^;;

I'm starting to think you've never used a phone or a credit card in the United States, ever. To each their own...

SWEET! Where can I d/l the SDK?
If it's true, then this is hardcore!

Nothing here makes any sense!

I do @ home and in the lab where I work.
Can the .NET framework still be installed even if you're not running as Administrator?

hear, hear.
Anyone know whether Alexander Stepanov had anything to do w/ this? Seems likely...
