I'm convincned the only way to get Americans to give 2 shits about space travel is to tell them there might be Muslims on the Moon. But then I realize that'll only get the public interested in bombing space instead of exploring it.
I'm beginning to think that Imperial America's downward spiral is like manmade global warming. It's obvious to anyone w/ a brain that we have no one but ourselves to blame, yet people insist on covering their ears and going "lalala" anytime someone tries to sound the alarm.
You forgot to mention that the Right to Bear Arms helped defend Iraqis from the tyranny of Saddam Hussein for decades... then that crazy Coalition of the Willing came in and started taking all their guns. Because the invaders only believe in freedom long enough to hate it.
If you haven't heard of DDJ or CUJ before, give them both a try. DDJ covers all sorts of stuff and (as an example) the October '05 CUJ had the best accidental intro to template metaprogramming I've ever seen.

IMO, IEEE CGA is much more useful to me than any of ACM's SIGGRAPH stuff. This is only relevant if you're into computer graphics at all.
Tech Central Station is where you go when you can afford to pay someone who sounds intelligent to generate some buzz that supports your talking points... but what are those talking points? As far as I can tell, he ignored his advisor and he thought (thinks?) that Engineering courses are supposed to be easy. What the hell?
The 1st "AI Game Programming Wisdom" was actually pretty good. You could tell it was good by how quickly LaMothe's label put together a cheap imitation, "AI Techniques for Game Programming".
(I never read the 2nd "AI Game Programming Wisdom"... laziness on my part.)
