Normally my Birthday falls on Bastille day. Bastille Day, that wonderful day when the whole country of France clebrates the aniversary of the storming of the Bastille. This used to be special, until now. Now I can honestly say, the movie X-men came out on my birthday!!! And to celebrate I am throwing the "Totally Rad X-men Birthday Bash ©" Complete with the X-men ice cream cake, x-men party hats, x-men plates and cups. It'll be a birthday to remember. Even better then the one where I stormed the Bastille for fun (man that was tough explaining *that* to the French Authorities)

  5. Jar-Jar is ..... on Star Wars Episode 2 Starts Shooting · · Score: 1

I say, Jar-Jar actually turns out to be Darth Vader. Think about it. Jar-Jar kills Anakin in a fit of rage. To cover it up, he puts himself into a big black suit and changes to the dark side ("Anakin sure has been acting wierd since he starting wearing that black suit" ... "Yeah but he also just went to the dark side of the force, I attribuite his changed aditude to the fact that he is now in with the sith." ) So basically, Vader doesn't die in the end of RotJ. He gets some poor sap to take his place in the death scene. Episodes 7-9 (if ever made) consist of Jar-Jar/Vaders Triumpuant Return.

Jokes aside, I think Jar-Jar could redeem himself in episode 2 in one scene..... Him hunched over a dead body with a crazed look in his eye and with blood and rabial foam comming from his mouth.

No... Some of my best memories of my first year in college are centered around the pinball machine in our dorm lounge. Watching everyone play, and then trying to conquer it yourself. By the end of the year, we had about 3 or 4 masters of the "Terminator 2" Pinball game. Probally one of the worst pinball games ever built (technology wise) but I loved it.

Besides the Cube sucking (Thats not the nature of my post, but I had to throw it in). A documentary won that hasn't even been released yet. In the acceptance speech the director (I think the documentary was One Day In September) admited that the film was yet to be release ANYWHERE in the world. I guess only the academy saw it. 21. Re:Add Vonnegut on Sci Fi Literature 101? · · Score: 1

Only problem is that Vonnegut didn't want to be considered Sci-Fi. He thought it was too restrictive. Thats why he never made Kilgore Trout famous and called him a shit writer all the time. Also, Bluebeard, Hocus Pocus, Mother Night, Deadeye Dick and most of Bagombo Snuff Box have no "science fiction" elements in them. He wrote most of these after he decided he didn't like critics calling him sci-fi (execpt for Bagombo snuff box which was primarly written really early for magazines that probally didn't want sci-fi either)

  22. Not a long list but still good on Sci Fi Literature 101? · · Score: 1

A lot of the lists here are definately good but very long. Probally more then one person can read in a year. Here at UCSB they actually teach a Sci Fi class and here is what they teach (I want to add more but I will restrain myself so as to not make this list too big)

    Texts:
    Shelley, Frankenstein
Wells, The Time Machine Asimov, I, Robot
Dick, Bladerunner, or Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Le Guin, The Left Hand of Darkness
    Clarke, 2001: A Space Odyssey
    Gibson, Burning Chrome

    Films:

Gilliam, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
    Lang, Metropolis
    Clarke, 2001: A Space Odyssey
    Scott, Bladerunner
    Longo, Johnny Mnemonic

I know there is also another class known as Psy-Fi. ITs not being offered this quarter so I cannot post a syllabus but if I remember correctly it has to do with Psychological aspects of Science Fiction.

  23. Re:Why couldn't it be Mech3? on Monolith Adds Games For Linux · · Score: 1

I've never played Mech 3 but if its anything like one and 2 it is not similar to Shogo. Shogo is an anime style FPS and it allows you to be (in half the levels) and 3 story tall robot that fights other 3 story tall robots (and some tiny people that you can step on). So you are either a normal person or a 3 story tall mech (and it is still just a FPS)

Woah there cowboy. First off it was a joke. Second off having both a been on a school network and having a cable modem there are definately benefits to both. The main benefit of having the cable modem, though, is not technological or monetary. The main benefit of having a cable modem is to NOT live on campus but to live in your own place. Maybe its just my independence that makes me want to live off-campus.

Oh yeah and with how much they charge to live in the dorms, it is cheaper to live off campus with a cable modem, that generally has a better connection (the again my schools network was just a T1 for 6 residents halls) then it is to live on campus and have to deal with residents halls idiots. (i.e. freshmen)

Also, cable modems (and cable TV too) only cost me and my roommate about $50 dollars a month and there was NO cost to buy the equipment.
