nvidia made the best chip sets for socket A that were desirable because they overclocked well, were faster and more stable than VIA etc. They also had very good integrated sound with soundstorm, whereas integrated sound had been not even good enough for casual music listening till this point. All before sli2.

this is an interesting idea as intel actually needs viable competitors to avoid getting hit by the same laws that almost killed Microsoft. If AMD's CPU arm continues as they have done in the past year I cannot see them lasting very long so intel needs to add some competitors.

USB is ideal we just need higher current. Like one of the earlier posters said boost/buck converters can turn 5V into anything between 0 - 100V with ease and should be cheaper on a per device basis than a wall power pack. As for replacing power packs you just open the device up and use the continuity test function of your multimeter from the negative or positive lead of a polarised component (eg capacitor) and the ring/tip of the power connection. It's not tricky, the bigger question is have Americans lost the ability to fix things?

actualy the CD sample rate is too low, it's imposible to create a filter with a brick wall response that cuts off sound totaly at a specific frequancy and filters that are made too sharp have resonant peaks and cause phase distortion. Therefor to represent audio to the limit of human hearing on a cd you must use sharp response filter that causes distortion. DAT with its 48KHz sample rate seems far more logical.
