configurable hardware... mmmm each game with its own PPU, Ai proccesor. Each crypto program with its own crypto engine. Now that could give a massive speed up, but it will also massivly increas development costs.
they will hit a brain power problem first. It takes progresivly more experiance people and more inteligent people to design smaller and smaller chips as the design rules grow with each shrink.... I expect 5nM or 10nM will be limit for comodity cpus as quantum effects are going to be very hard to find solutions for.
well stuff like VRAM is already duel ported meaning multiple bits of hardware can read and (under some restrictions) write to the same memory IC. This however increases the wafer area for each memory cell with each additiional port.
Ms already has a large linux lab that frequently contributes code. I see M$ as a company that so huge different bits of it are doing different things and therfore wheras parts of it are undoubtedly anti opensource never mind anti free software other bits are helping the free software comunity.
I think it was a philip K dick story in which a terminaly ill person had his consious transfered so that HE WAS a space ship. To me a giant space ship with robots and such like would be a vastly better body than a human... just floating through space.
not played Deus Ex I see. Evolution is slow technological progress is rapid. Who says that the cure for aging will be found by biolagy. I concived it more of replacing failing human systems with electro mechanical ones untill you are entirly electro mechanical at that point you are imortal as your mind should be easily transferable and backupable.
it removes the need for complex graphics cards. Most of the problems I have had with computers have been due to these very complex bits of hardware and software not quite working together.
it's pretyt easy to get cought in the trap of subtley biasing results to get the correct answer if you know what that answer is. I mean oh wait all these results are a factor of 2 off, I must have used the wrong scale...
As somone who has lived in houses I have whitnessed the same things from so called profesionals. I would rather do it myself and know it has been done correctly than have a fancey permit for something potentialy leathal. Also I don't know how anyone in the US can talk about electrical safty with 2 pin plugs and bathroom soccets.
the improvement in effecaincy is due to the lower heating due to p=I^2*R. Say you wish to transmit a given amount of power. Well as power is P=IV then by increasing the voltage you decrease the current to transmit the same amopunt of power. As the earlier equation shows the less current the less heating of your transmision lines. Therefore by using higher voltages (by stepping up the voltage with transformers) and then stepping it back down at the other end the effeiciancy of the transmision line is increased. This is done with AC because ac can be easily and effeiciantly stepped up and stepped down using transformers wheras DC>DC conversion is less efficiciant and more complex.
it's a net gain as money is irelivent as long as you have enough of it to survive and persue your interests. aquasition of wealth is only a means to do other things.
thats why I have built a very basic computer out of logic gates EEPROMs, static rams and a Z80A running at 4MHz. I have also done projects that involve taking things like PIC chips beyond the limits of what they should rearly be able to do (acting as a simple MMU and controller for a delta sigma modulator based voice recorder). I can honestly say I have wrote a bug free program that runs as fast as is posible on the hardware available as I spent 2 weeks on just over 200 lines of asyembler. Those 200 lines are perfect there is no posible speed up... somehow that is satisfying.
This comes in light of a recent special edition of National Geographic that I read all about China- where school and studying hard is almost a religion over there. We're all going to be out-educated by miles in the next generation. they study hard but according to the people I know from china its actualy a bad thing. They learn far too much, most people burn out or fail due to the huge amount of useless knowlage they have to cram and there is know time to acutaly learn how to solve actualy problems. Eg setting up a decent physics experiment or solving an engineering problem or righting a story. They are just ment to memorise a huge amount of facts and set methords for solving problems with no originality of thought.
I know from experiance most of my teachers were unwilling to teach me things unrelated to passing exams. However this taught me arguably greater skill of finding things out myself. I had one particularly useless teacher for one of my uk GCSE exams that I actualy started ignoring him totaly, yet a still managed to get an A without any real effort. I am actualy quite greatfull for his ineptness now as my self study has lead to my current choice of degree and interests. Without him I probobly wouldn't have been as succefull as I am.
xp is a retrograde from 2000 as it always uses more memory even if you disable things. My dad runs win 2000 as he only needs a few AP's with a better GUI it would be a very nice OS.

HUUUURRRRDDD!!!!

sounds like some kind of dream job to me. I guess M$ counter offers protect google for getting the duds.
ah so what your saying is that we should shoot the lawyers for leadings along a path of belif in the imaginary. Genius!

wire directly onto the brain with an artificial higher bandwidth optic nerve.
haven't they already?

I imagain RMS is currently jumping around the room like the energiser bunny. The joke just dosen't fit.

I use dillo and firefox. Dillo is just in need of an addblock plugina and some more acurate rendering and it will be perfect.

I think that some of googles software runs on linux using wine (Earth ETC). Not sure fi it's complied against it though.
