    I am not sure that it will, at least until someone gets balls
    enough to actually go after the source of the money for SCO
    (dare I even mention the redmond washington firm whoes involvement
    is already public knowledge?).

    as far as it goes, this is just another dealying tactic. really,
    by the time this even gets to a real trial, the kernel source in
    question will have changed to the point that it won't be relevant.

    I just wish the judge in this matter would put it to rest,
    dimiss the case with predjudice and fine the current and former
    SCO board of directors with wasting the courts time, fraud and a
    few other choice charges.

    comparing those who defy the mpaa and others as
    terrorists is a lot like call the kettle black.

    This behavior on the part of the mpaa strikes me as
    someone (the mpaa) acting out of panic, not informed thought.

    The mpaa (and others) really should be embracing the net as a
    possible revenue stream. it would certainly make their product available over
    a much wider spectrum of the viewing public.

    So my question is this: what are they so afriad of?

    I wonder if M$ (tm) will be true to form at take 1-2 years
    before they include accessibility for the blind/visually
    impaired (previously, it took M$ being sued under the ADA
    before they made it "easier" to have such tools work)?

    besides, I don't use windows (much). only reason I would have to use
    it is to provide "tech support" to ohers not as familiar with it.

    meanwhile, back to Unix stuff. :)

    is it me or does there appear to be more to this
    story than is being published?

    there was mention of an i-pod that was not delivered, but
    nothing further (no comment).

    questions is:is this a scam or is he really the target of
    an online revenge?

    I guess that all the facts need to come out first before
    one can make a "value judgement" as to who is right and who was wronged.

    I still get that fairly often when I shop at fry's here in Phoenix.
    still, one has to wonder how clueless these "customers" are when
    they ask a BLIND PERSON where something is or if something will
    do somthing or other...

    Granted, I am a bit more knowledgable than the "customer circus"
    guys that are the store employees. but still, asking a clearly
    blind person for help when there are a half dozen employees
    loitering nearby? whats the sense in that?

    it seems to me that we are in a situation where the police
    are getting called for every little problem. :(

    are we, as a society, that afraid that we are demanding
    a police state to exist?

    uts worse than that, unfortunately.

    the bureacracy is son controlled by the corporate types
    that only those things they want to market ever get looked at.

    blindness and other disabilities always take a back seat unless
    a real celebrity comes along to get the message out (remember
    Christopher Reeves?).

    add to this the general public apathy that nothing anyone says
    is going to do much to change things... well, you get the idea.

    btw, just so you know, I happen to be blind. I have no eyesight
    at all. it took me 5 years to acquire (on my own) equipment to
    be able to access the net and I had to do it on what the government
    pays in disability ($600.00/month). 5 years, scrimping and saving
    and bartering and "horse trading". thats a long time just for
    "equal access".

    ah well, I am here and no matter what the powers-that-be say,
    I am not going away.

    and what is to stop some pedophile from getting these
    and giving them out to kids?

    this kind of technology (in its current form) can be abused
    in frightening ways.

    consider a situation where such a child predator hands out
    phones to unsuspecting kids. said phonmes are setup such
    that you cannot make outgoing calls. at that point, its no
    more than a "harmless toy" and most parents will see it as such.

    then, at some future point (days, weeks, etc) said predator
    snatches the kid(s).

    I dare say it gives a person pause to think of the ugly
    possibilities of abuse of such a potentially "helpful" technology.

    how would we make sure that the right people (parents) get these
    devices?

    an interesting point with those with "fast cortexes"

    it seems that such people are often misdiagnosed as having adhd
    (the willful behavior, bouncing off the walls, etc). such a
    misdiagnosis (and the resulting medicinal push) can have disasterous
    effects upon the these children (I should know, I was one of those
    kids 30+ years ago).

    perhaps we should be looking for better alternatives than having the
    parents insist on doping up their kids to control them easier.

    just some thoughts from a "child of the pharmecuitical age"

    there was a PDF of the letter sent by the attorney's of record in that case.

    A couple of small problems arise though:
    1. the case file ID does not match anything on record in the state of New york
    2. the indicated case material is for health care litigation and recovery of fees.

    I hate to say this folks, but someone put over a very good forgery on the blogs.

    gee, its starting to look like something out of George Orwell's "1984" around here. Pretty soon, its going to be "any data you produce is no longer your property, especially if it was produced on a proprietary (read that "closed source") third party application.

    (at least for the US citizens) being erroded?

    I guess its time to vote all the bums out (both parties). they have obviously

    It isn't just here.......

    India is starting to see the same sets of problems....
    oh yeah, do go to china (as an outside), their
    government doesn't like the competition (china is
    probably the 1 place with the highest level of dvd
    piracy on the entire planet and they export that
    to the tune of $30 Billion USD annually).

    I am wondering what is up with those "congress critters".
    don't they realize that some of us are relegated to the
    analog world without any choice?

    My case in point: I cannot read in the normal fashion (I am blind)
    and thus I depend on text-to-speech conversion (ultimate result:
    digital to analog conversion). This is pretty much true for my
    audio equipment as well (and the new digital only stuff would
    be priced well out of my reach anyway)

    now, enough about me. here's the problem I see (sic):
    the media companies are wanting congress to mind their
    "bread and butter" with these new laws, but whats its
    really going to do is to kill their business model off.
    They (the media companies) *think* they are doing the
    smart thing right now. I wonder how its going to be
    before they realize they've cut their own throat?

    well, its kinda hard for me to tell.

    my windows box is a useless pile of crap right now!

    Their rootkit did a lot of damage. my speech synth no longer works

    (being blind means I use adaptive technology) and the "service pack"

    did not restore the system as promised.


    I am now going to have to have a complete re-install of the OS

    and the speech synth software and I am going to have to pay $65.00

    an hour to get it done. where am I going to get that on $600.00 a month?


    I hope that class action attorney calls me. as it is, I am now using a 350 Mhz

    linux box to post this (at least my older speech synth still works but not with

    windows).

    I am not sure to take this as a joke or seriously......

    seriously though, I have lived in a few places in my life that
    were bonnified police states (the former soviet union, yugoslavia,
    egypt, etc). travelling with the family as a kid because your parents
    worked for the government was fun in some ways (and terrifying in others).

    I witnessed the results of police states first hands.
    first rule of thumb: such a state acts for its own interest
    first and cares very little for the individual. anyone not conforming to the
    "states" ideal is labeled a threat and "disappeared".

    so. my question is this: who minds the minders?

    well,
    it seems to me that it is becomming increasingly obvious that we are slipping
    toward a police state here in the US. :(

    This latest policy statement flies in the face of the first (and 5th) amendments
    to the US consititution. I begin to wonder how long it will be before that
    venerable document is shredded?

    *sigh* yet one more little piece of our rights chissled away at.

    at this point, I'd say blame the suits. they are much more interested in their bottom line and don't have the time or inclination to deal with the network/email/news admin types.

    Thats the basic problem of having a bottom line mentality, as opposed to a QOS mentality.
