I used to game at night and my wife said the noise was keeping her awake. With headphones on, it wasnt bothering me and the card itself was fine. It was a high pitched whine which everyone could hear easily. It started about a month after i purchased this video card. I had to RMA it, but the successive cards i recieved back all had different problems. After about the 4th RMA, it got to the point that I was paying more in shipping than it would cost to just get a new damn video card. So thats what I did. Never buy PNY anything is the moral of the story!

Pros: - not a zombie - not being tracked everywhere i go via passive bluetooth, "applications", wireless, or simply IMEI - having a week of standby battery time at least - phone boots in 30 seconds max - can say to people "oh sorry my phone doesn't text!" and then not have to be pulled into asinine one word per message SMS conversations - never tempted to text and drive or view social media while driving - don't feel listless and depressed when the battery runs low (which as i understand it, happens daily) - not a brainwashed zombie who can't sit and think for 2 minutes without getting bored and whipping out their phone

(hey wait a minute, thats not a con!) - eventually the networks will not support my phone any longer, which makes me sad. - have to plan what I'm doing outside the house BEFORE i go outside. What the heck are you talking about? Skylake is a perfectly fine architecture. When it came out, i too did a comparison with skylake and haswell judging skylake to be the better chip. Using DDR4 and also the ability to do m2 SSDs @ x4 speeds were the two deal breakers for me.
Sure you can get a 2600k that runs circles around lots of later gen chips, but a 6700k will own it and with the extra features and better power consumption (and less heat) skylake is the one to buy. Especially since the 4790k and the 6700k are like a 50 dollar difference in price. Might as well go for all the new chipset features and the satisfaction of not paying premium prices for last years architecture!
On the mac side of things, yes the last few releases were really unstable. However i think they fixed all the stability problems in the latest el capitan release. I dont use osx personally, but my users stopped complaining about stability problems when we went to el cap.

Other than that, I really don't see a need for anyone to upgrade. You have a boatload of crap to deal with over 7 and yes as time goes on, the problems with windows 10 keep adding up. As others have mentioned, windows 10 machines frequently get into a state where you have to blow away a user completely to fix it. Sometimes even the whole machine. Something gets corrupted in the microsoft store, and even if you don't use it, it can create negative effects everywhere.
Patching in the corporate environment is a nightmare now, as each "patch" is actually a brand new operating system. I still haven't got things to go smooth between versions yet and expect another week of fighting before this new edition will image to workstations properly.

The main problems I have are this rapid feature release cycle ( 2 major updates a year is far too fast), and its various ways that it screws up and requires time to be rebuilt. Another huge annoyance is that they got rid of the file settings and transfer wizard, which has been a godsend since XP in terms of giving people the exact same environment that they started out with before i came in and switched the computer, or the hdd or whatever. Now I have to say "unfortunately we cant copy your profile cleanly anymore, so you have to start fresh", then i have to hand copy bookmarks back in chrome, desktop items, etc. Real annoying and like everythign else bad about windows 10, i blame the new features for causing these sorts of problems: the store and cortana. They couldn't get file and transfer settings wizard working reliably with these new features, so they dropped it as opposed to fixing it.
Oh and the number one reason i will never go to windows 10 on my home PC is the way in which it was pushed out. I lost all resepect for microsoft when they used windows update to deliver and trick people into installing windows 10. So I am morally opposed to installing it now because of the abuse of a great patch system that was windows update. Now it can no longer be trusted, and that is the real long term damage that they have done to their reputation. Abuse of their position.

i was at a retro gaming convention recently and the average price was about $100 for a NES console (controllers extra). A BNIB boxed one i saw selling for $900, but that was probably just for show.
NES games were going for at least $10-20 each. With some titles over a hundred dollars. There is a whole retro gaming scene that loves consoles! and at the retro gaming con that i went to there were at least a hundred tables of people selling old NES games. The con was packed, and many people had nes games and consoles under their arms as they left. I personally saw people paying $100 myself no problem plus $20 bucks for a nes controller or two.
Some people there were old 30-40 somethings like myself who owned a NES back in the 80s, but many more were 10-25 years old, and they were the ones who had no problem plunking down $100 bucks for a NES.

I learned to drive not using it, my dad never used it, so I don't. I come from a very flat city, with barely any hills, so growing up there was no reason.
If you are parking on a hill, to prevent the transmission from clunking when you put it into drive, you should have the parking brake on. But to say people "dont know how to handle a car properly" if they dont use their parking brake every time they park is hyperbole.

This is a false claim. I manage a few networks and as long as you have a WSUS server (which any company with more than 10 machines should have, otherwise you are wasting bandwidth at the very least) you will not get any forced upgrade. Well not yet.
The other thing I did to make double sure is i put the GWX control panel in our windows 7 image. So any new computer is inoculated. The only time i see that kind of thing is if its a non domain joined computer, which is to be expected sadly.
Your being funny but is it? Windows 10 has many problems. They want to update the whole OS every 6 months and shit always ends up breaking, reset your file permissions and auto install crappy applications from their store. Its harder to run with UAC off, and there is tonnes of useless web integration at all levels. File permissions probably pisses me off the most, and the loss of the file settings and transfer wizard, with no replacement, which you could still kind of use in win8.
I haven't really found anything that windows 10 does better than windows 8 except direct access vpns. And only "direct access" vpns, because they broke the normal VPN interface in windows 10.
I find that when i have to fix a windows 8 laptop, i am actually nostalgic for the OS. After installing classic start of course.
Disclaimer is that neither is better than windows 7 which is what i use at home. But I also made a conscious effort not to upgrade my wifes laptop from 8 to 10 because of all the problems we have at work with it.

Windows 7 works fine. The proper solution here is to block updates with GWX control panel and for microsoft to stop fucking around with current windows 7 users who are happy to wait till 2021 to upgrade. Your "move to linux" post is doing nothing but legitimizing microsofts behaviour for linux's gain. Basically kicking people when they are down to try and increase your own operating systems market share.
This is a false claim. I manage a few networks and as long as you have a WSUS server (which any company with more than 10 machines should have, otherwise you are wasting bandwidth at the very least) you will not get any forced upgrade. Well not yet.
The other thing I did to make double sure is i put the GWX control panel in our windows 7 image. So any new computer is inoculated. The only time i see that kind of thing is if its a non domain joined computer, which is to be expected sadly.
Your being funny but is it? Windows 10 has many problems. They want to update the whole OS every 6 months and shit always ends up breaking, reset your file permissions and auto install crappy applications from their store. Its harder to run with UAC off, and there is tonnes of useless web integration at all levels. File permissions probably pisses me off the most, and the loss of the file settings and transfer wizard, with no replacement, which you could still kind of use in win8.
I haven't really found anything that windows 10 does better than windows 8 except direct access vpns. And only "direct access" vpns, because they broke the normal VPN interface in windows 10.
I find that when i have to fix a windows 8 laptop, i am actually nostalgic for the OS. After installing classic start of course.
Disclaimer is that neither is better than windows 7 which is what i use at home. But I also made a conscious effort not to upgrade my wifes laptop from 8 to 10 because of all the problems we have at work with it.

I was thinking that repair of the machines would be safe till i realized that they can probably create other machines to repair the primary machines. :(
I guess we really are doomed. It's interesting to think about. An advanced machine making and consuming its own art, science, literature. I guess the main reason this won't happen is because people will not let it happen. But if it happens by accident, or because of some profit motive, then it could be very dystopian indeed!
These philosophical concerns is what scifi was made to address!
