As someone pointed out already, how would events have turned out if Europeans got more involved with what was going on before or right after the invasion of Poland. Or better yet, how would things have turned out if there was a UN back then.
Get involved more... how? By talking more? The problem with Britain and France with Mussolini and Hitler was they didn't back up talk with force. The UN, as we have seen, is useless without the threat of force. If you're all talk, no one is going to listen to you, because you're helpless. If the French and British would have credibly threatened Italy with war when Mussolini invaded Ethiopia, history may have been different. If France and Britain would have used force to prevent Hitler from reoccupying the Rhineland (when he only equipped the Wehrmacht with one clip of ammo, because he was certain the French wouldn't act to stop him), history may have been different. Instead, we see the same tired pacifism that so vexed George Orwell, and Winston Churchill. It is not an invocation of Godwin's Law to draw parrallels with yesteryear's events, when they are appropriate. Don't think those events apply? Try taking the word of someone WHO WAS THERE:

Ummm.... no. The GPL is not a license to demand software from those who are not offering it. Boeing is offering the software to the US Army, and no one else, and the Army isn't offering it to anyone else. That means they don't have to give you squat, just because you "ask for it." You can ask, but the only thing you're likely to recieve is the bird.
The guy used to work for the NSA. And this is supposed to mean... what exactly? That, umm, the guy used to work for the NSA? Well, I guess we're all supposed to know what THAT means. He's THE MAN. And he's OUT TO GET YOU.
Yeah, gestures worked great in Black and White. Why, exactly should I do something as inane as a gesture when a mouse click will do the trick? Total waste of energy.
"Oooh look at me. I'm opening my web browser with a Big N."
Americans bought 25 billion dollars worth of books in 2001. Paperbacks and trades are the largest sellers. Juvenile sales are the biggest gains in sales, which is encouraging - kids are reading more.
In 95 and 98 you could replace Explorer with Progman, which was still included in the install. I believe it's still included in 2000 as well.
We used to have lots of fun changing some noobs workstation desktop shell to Progman and watching their complete and utter confusion after they got back from the john. Hilarious. Fun for the whole family.
I've discovered a frightening trend towards pop culture obsessive compulsiveness. Some of the guys I work with that are in their early 20s are, well, frightening. They bring toys to work. They bitch about how sucky the new Transformers episodes are compared to the (apparently masterpiece) originals. They obsess over comic books. They play with Legos. They put Autobot and Decepticon stickers on their cars. For crying out loud man, I'm 28 years old - I grew up with that stuff. IT WASN'T THAT GREAT! Jesus. They act like babies.
It's Nostalgia as a lifestyle choice. Yeah, I owned an original C64, it has neatness value. I wouldn't mind playing with it - FOR FIVE MINUTES. You couldn't do crap with the damn things when they were new, you can do even less, comparatively, now that they're old. Give it up. Go to a museum.
Well, how about the fact that a human on the surface of Mars can do more research worthy work in a day than a clumsy, awkward, slow moving robot can do in a year?
Plus the design that I got to work with in college uses weapons grade plutonium! What better way to get the nuclear weapon stock down than to transform it into interplanetary engines?
Since, according to the GAO, in the last Gulf War, 80% of our "smart" bombs missed their targets, I don't think we'll notice if Saddam jams their guidance systems..
That's because the guided munitions used in the Gulf War were laser-guided. The beams were weakened or blocked and the ordinance would go off target. Todays JDAMs are guided by GPS, and the military has gotten around the sticky problem of GPS jamming in the last decade. In Afghanistan, the target hit success rate was over 90%. The majority of missed targets were the result of human error by target locators on the ground entering the improper target coordinates.
Military ordnance is not intended to WORK
That is quite possibly the stupidest thing I've read in very long time.
Boeing has upgraded their contracted GPS sats since 1997 to counter GPS jamming. USAF funded in 2000, if I remember correctly. TRW and Raytheon have worked on this in the past decade as well.
You mean if we move fast enough, the first interPLANETARY colony will be established in this century. I would say there's zero chance of sending anything more than a probe to another star system this century, if lucky.
Here's a thought - get a job, any job. SOME money coming in is better than NO money coming in. What planet do you live on? If you live in a Metro area, and you can't get a job waiting tables or pushing a broom or something you just aren't trying that hard.
What a bunch of idiots. No wonder they don't have jobs - they're morons. "Oh I can't find an IT job, so I'll work for worthless options and continue to whine about not having money." Here's a clue for our San Fran wunderkind - take whatever job you can get, in whatever field or trade you can, if it means you can pay your rent and eat. There is no such thing as a bad job, if it puts food in your mouth and pays your bills. Hate to say it but wake up and join the real world.
You know what the gaming community really needs? Some real-time strategy and strategy dedicated server binaries. EVERYTHING is FPS. A game company releases a RTS, they put up their own "company" servers only and/or peer to peer. Lame. I'm the game server admin for a US national ISP. I have a dedicated subnet with a dedicated OC3 with a bunch of dedicated boxes used only for games. And they're all FPS, because that's all that's out there. Boring. How about a dedicated binary for Galactic Battlegrounds or something George?
And then you have idiots like yourself that think peace comes by being able to take on #2-10 all at once and then armed with than knowledge suppressing the rest of the world. Grow up or move to Canada... or just jump into the Pacific Ocean.
But then idiots like yourself don't realize that the existence of a superpower of such overwhelming strength makes Great Power conflict futile, and hence directs Great Power rivalry into more peaceful avenues, such as trade competition. The overwhelming power of the United States, and of the former Soviet Union, made the prospect of war so terrible in its cost that Great Power rivalry was subsumed to the interests of the Superpowers. Peace for 50 years amongst the Great Powers. It is the United States that makes the EU and a tranquil Japan possible.

But chasing up a bunch of mp3 downloaders?
It's called copyright infringement, and its a criminal act. Disliking that fact doesn't make it go away.
Derek
Thank you Mr. Derek stock trading has lifted the spirits of several small african children just in the last ten minutes alone! ya!
Glad to see your failing Economics. Why don't you come back and talk when someone gives you a clue about International Finance. Thanks. Fuckwad.

You just cannot get that vintage computer sound without the real thing.
Oh yeah, it was so grand.
Vintage=crap

If their military chooses to put their military targets among their civilian population, then it's not safe for civilians
Which is a war crime, to begin with.
