    You can avoid most of this by using nice on the processor-intensive command.

    That's how I can compile software while still having my mp3s play smoothly and my mouse remain unaffected.

    Well, yes to the currency part. In God We Trust is highly superfluous, and need not be there. We already have a motto - E Pluribus Unum.

    As to the constitution, I suggest you check your copy. Mine doesn't contain the word God anywhere.

    This is part of Klipper. Its icon is probably in your system tray as a clipboard with a K on it. Right click on that icon, choose Configure, and uncheck "Popup menu at mouse-cursor position".

    Of course people need it set up for them. Hell, some people need WINDOWS set up for them. Been in a CompUSA lately? They sell Windows Installation service.

    When I was going to college about a month ago and giving my old computer to my little (13 year-old non-geek) sister, she _asked_ me to keep Linux on it because she wanted to try it. So far, she uses it every day with no issues.

    So yeah, regular people use Linux on thier own volition sometimes. Don't make so many generalizations.

    I originally planned to put Debian on this new computer, but I didn't want to wait forever for 3.0. On the DAY that I finish getting Gentoo installed, Debian 3 is released. Figures.

    But the thing is, as far as cable goes, we're paying for ad-ful channels! Personally, I'd rather see fewer useless channels and fewer ads. Or better yet, the ability to choose which channels you wish to recieve, on a pay-per-channel basis. I'd gladly pay per channel for TechTV, Discovery, A&E, the History Channel, FOX and NBC. I don't watch anything else, ever. So why am I paying for the other 70-some basic cable channels, and STILL seeing ads galore on the 6 channels that I actually watch?

    Oh please. Just because the Catholic church held mass in Latin doesn't make it an endorsement of religion. Scientists use latin a lot to, and that doesn't make them Catholic. You're just being facetious.

    Every motto that wants to sound important and established is written in latin.

    "Our freakin' country's motto" was "E Pluribus Unum" (Out of Many, One) when it was founded. "In God We Trust" was substituted for it on currency in 1955, during the McCarthy era, at the same time "under God" was inserted into the pledge of allegiance. The reasoning behind both was to distance ourselves from the Godless Commies.

    What about religions that beleive in multiple gods? What about atheists?

    Regarding the girl in your example, did you read exerpts of the decision? The court ruled that the current precedent prsented an "unacceptable choice between participating and protesting". The Cold War was a whole lot of no fun for everyone, and those two phrases are artifacts from it that need to go.

    ARGH. Just today my dad tells me his cool theory. He has some sort of virus, and he went to the doctor to get medicine. He told me that "They had to give me some sort of new 'antiviral' medicine because they're saving up all of the regular antibiotics since September 11."

    I do something similar, except I pop up an IE window pointing to a page on a site I host explaining code red and how to fix it. I always get that CGI error, but my server logs report a hit from the infected host on my explanation page. So that error is perfectly normal - it's working.

    If the original code was GPL'ed, yes, your program using the COM object needs to be too. If the code is LGPL'ed (which would make more sense), then you can create a closed-source program, and are only obligated to release changes to the COM object itself.

    Personally, Gnome is prettier than KDE, but KDE has the best apps. What really made the decision for me, though, was that KDE runs gnome apps better than gnome runs KDE apps. I don't know whose fault it is, but I'm happy with my little hybrid here.

    One word: Konqueror.

    Especially for windows users - it renders pages a lot like IE does (and you can even use the mozilla renderer if you really feel like it.) Plus, it's reletively fast, and easy to use. I've given up my last windows PC, and have been using Konq exclusively for the last week or so. No complaints here.

    It may appear that way, if you only read the first part of the Majority opinion, which is just restating the defendant's case. However, a bit further into the text we find Justice Chase stating:

    "Our conclusion, therefore, is, that Texas continued to be a State, and a State of the Union, notwithstanding the transactions to which we have referred."

    Which was the actual opinion of the court. You simply misinterpreted other text in the ruling.

    It's only entrapment if the police (or another government agency) does it, and then prosecutes.

    Why do people continue to believe the the protections we have against the government (Bill of Rights, etc) apply to people who aren't the government at all?
