They don't care if you're able to do what you need or want to do with your equipment, that you've bought, with your money. They want to sell new, proprietary gadgets, to keep control of their cash cows, and to seek power. The world is always going to need computers. These computers are always going to need to be able to compute. Without the ability for computers to compute things, would you be able to do your job? Neither would I. In that computing, the possibility is going to exist for some form of copyrighted data to become non-copyrighted data. It's just data. They can't ban computers just because some people do illegal things on computers, same with guns and cars and, uhm, guns.
If this bill passes, I will send fifty dollars to the EFF. They'll need all the money they can get. Until then, you can keep your attitude to your self.
will Canada be forced to follow this bill simply because there are no other devices available on the market? No. Why? Because this bill will not pass. It will not. I bet you five dollars.
Trojan horses are not virii, yet they are detected all the same. Despite the fact that this does not replicate, the end result is that it is not beneficial to the user, and anyone who knew what he was up to would not want it on his Windows boxen.
Yeah, they'll vote for the merger, take their money, and turn around and sell 10 minutes later. Then they'll go "muahahaha" while they watch the stock drop.
The way we get rid of.tw spam is we all cut taiwan off, like we did China, until they stop all the damn spamming. Then go on to the next country we get spam from and threaten to cut them off. Choke them off one at a time until they execute spammers or whatever. Like Microsoft.
I still say it's too early to call this a Bad Thing. Who amongst us would claim that the current file system MS uses is ideal? If they want to change it to make it better, maybe it'll actually *be* better, after they work the bugs out. And if it's better -- not the way windows XP media player is better than the old media player, but better the way IE 4.0 + is better than IE 3, then I'm all for it. But we agree in that if I fear that my OS is going to make decisions on what I can and can't see, I'm not going to use it. They say "trustworthy computing" and if they don't follow through, they're going to get cmdrtaco's dildo.
it will intentionally be made to be incompatible with any other system. you mean like NTFS? It's not like MS is going to adopt Linux's file system just so you can be compatible. What does it matter if they create a new one? Their existing file system is already incompatible with earlier versions (9x, 3.x, ME), so who are you to complain if the obsolete NTFS?
Yeah, that's the classic way, but the way described above gives you better spin, therefore better aerodynamics, and energy (precious energy) is not lost when the band hits your finger. It takes an extra hand, but when the situation calls for accuracy, power, or distance over portability, it can't be beaten by the classic method.
So... I don't get it. you sign your name in the first and third and post as AC, then you reply as if you're a third party in the middle, using the pirodude account?
Sorry, I was under the impression that all spam basically originates from the USA. Certainly somebody from australia has more to fear from an american spammer than a dutch one, no?
Expect to see more of this on Slashdot, which will post basically anything spam-related in the news. Companies sue other companies for spam. Your ISP fights for you. Things work out... Gotta win one of these in the US to make it a reality though.
I bought the laptop from a small company based out of California. I talked to several different people there, not one of which didn't have an accent. It was heavy, but I could understand them and they could understand me. I ordered it on, say, the first, it arrived on the 7th, and it was broken on the 31st. There was a 30 day money-back guarantee. I was able to get it serviced under the 1 year warrantee, but they wouldn't take it back. It worked for 2 more months. Then it broke again. It was the same thing both times (the display started flickering on and off). I got it serviced. Then it worked for about a year. Then the display died...

That has got to be the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. Reign of terror on what, interns? It took him 8 years of reagonomics to balance the budget, and Bush took care of that in what, 8 months? He is so lucky that he can use Sept. 11th as an excuse.
I know it was modded down as flamebait, but the guy's telling the truth. I had this happen when I bought a laptop from a small company. I tried to return it and his accent was HORRIBLE. Sorry, but it was. Plus he was a prick and wouldn't let me return the laptop. I try and keep an open mind about different cultures, but in the end, they keep pissing me off like this. So I'm not racist, just disenfranchised.:( I wish it weren't that way.
you two should hook up and start a business getting people valid copies of Windows 2000 and valid IDs.
I vote antimatter.

His name is Steve. But he got laid off, so he should recite them anyway...
Microsoft is the only who wants Microsoft around in the entire computer industry.

Best sentence ever. It rings so true.

does anyone have any tips for things they do, or products they use to keep track of their dozens and dozens of passwords...?
Use Microsoft(R) Passport(tm).
I could retire at $3/spam. :(

I think a surgical strike on the Colorado Avalanche would be enough to keep Canada from winning olympic gold in hockey in 4 years. ;)
It's flippant, but I like it. Alas, no mod points.

I have a friend who, whenever I say, "see you tomorrow" past 12am, corrects me. Every time. You remind me of him with that comment.

What's Moxie? I'm thinking of getting one, so if this thing's better, I'm all about it.
