Was this article needed? I can see it being useful for someone out in the real world with their first professional job, but for anyone who has had a few jobs and who has common sense I don't see the need for such an article.
Um, you are leaving the company, YOUR PROBLEM, is solved. You have nothing to gain from an exit interview and the potential of offending people who future employers might call for a reference.
If the company cared about your issues they would have done something about it while you were still there....assuming your brought it up. As far as those left behind go, they are adults, it is up to them to bring up any problems they have.
If you are burning to vent, invite a friend out for a few drinks and a meal.
Exit interviews exist for the benefit of HR departments. It makes them look like they providing useful information and a useful service to the company.
Teach your son a lesson, let him make web sites in notepad.
He will learn good things from the practice and when he gets tired of doing things in a gratuitously time consuming and repetitive way he will learn a WYSIWYG tool.
A child learning basic skills with a screw driver and an erector set is a good thing. Eventually, if that kid goes into a blue collar field s/he will use a power screw drive if s/he is bolting things together all day.
..on Slashdot, he would have gotten modded down as a "troll" for simply stating his opinion of Windows 8 as being bad.
Same thing happened to my last week for saying that while I was not a fan of Apple as a prelude to commending them for the support for the blind in the iPhone.
Zakaria say that despite repitition of the claims that the US has taxes and too many laws for business to navigate the facts don't bear this out. According to Zakaria taxes are the lowest on the wealthy since the 1950s and the U.S. has even been rated better than some East Asian countries for business friendly laws.
Zakaria claims that the real problem are 3 trends that have been going on for decads:
- no improvement, let along upkeep of infrastructure ( have to pay for those tax cuts somehow )
Congressional Republicans have voted down every proposal to help the economy the President has sent to them, even proposals tailored after Republican tactics for economic handling.
Remember this in November, vote the Republicans in the Senate and Congress out.
They are making the country and most likely you, poorer, just because they are in a pissing contest with the president.
but I've had factory made DVDs die on me after a few years simply because I preferred to keep the AC in my apartment low.
As good as the ancient Egytians were at making mummys, an anomalous ancient Chinese genius beat them. Instead of a corpse that looked like a charcol brisqute, the royal woman he preserved, found thousands of years later, still had skin, organs, bendable limbs, etc. Like she died recently.
His method? Concentric coffins.
The inner one holding the body, floated inside of another larger coffin filled with a liquid antiseptic.
This could be an interesting choice for many reasons.....if she succeeds with Yahoo.
Many women can't get some jobs because companies are concerned about them getting pregnant and not being there for them. She is due in October. If she pulls off turning Yahoo around she could make a contribution toward ending that kind of discrimination.
She could also help end the stereotype that a cute, blonde, conventionally attractive woman isn't likely to be an effective CEO.
If she succeeds, if not she will fuel to the fire of stereotypes.
I hope she succeeds. Yahoo used to be "the Google" back in the day. Now they seem to be stuck in mediocrity. It would be nice if she could bring some of that Google magic to Yahoo.
I'm not an Apple fan, but I have been impressed with things a blind coworker has told me about the iPhone and iPad. All sorts of free software on those devices, out of the box, that lets him use both of those devices without a hitch. Apple did this without any group getting on their case, which coworker told me is the usual path for getting things that work for the blind.
I hate to say anything non-negative about facebook, but plenty of other traditional investments can be as ephemeral. Hence the term "bubble". On Monday stock in X can be worth something and on Tuesday it can be only worth the paper they print it on.
I disagree. I've been using FOSS software since EMACS in college in the 90s. Programmers really do NOT get UI. Many of the changes you complained about I think are useful.
I agree with all of the top level posts. I like Thunderbird the way it is.......nice and simple. The idea of it not getting bloated out is nice. I've also seen slack maintenance on it over the years.
Maybe the coolest thing to do is for Firefox to keep the same number of developers on Thunderbird until they work through ever single bug ticket, then put it into "maintenance", updating it only to keep it running in new operating system versions, hardware etc.
I agree with all of this. I started out with email when email clients were it and relucantly moved to webmail. Webmail won me over by being convient. My email was there for me wherever I went: work, home, vacation, a copy shop when the power went out, etc...
Keeping track of when to download, versus download and delete by location was a small thing until the powerful convenience of webmail came along.
I work with a blind guy in my office. He tests my web sites, handles support requests, we exchange emails, etc. It is almost like he isn't even blind. He is able to have that life because of laws like these. Instead of being a burden on society he is paying taxes and making other contributions.
From what he has told me if it wasn't for organizations like the ADA suing orgs he and others would not have the things they do.
Iran used to be an extremely progressive and modern country. Iran and Iraq were ahead of the United States and Europe in regards to women's equality. If they can backslide as far as they have done, then it is possible for the United States to do so as well. Fundamentalist Christians of this ilk and TEA party Republicans and their anti-woman/anti-contraception/anti-sex rants need to be taken seriously. Pay attention to the news and vote against those people.
Iran and Iraq used to be more progressive than Europe with women's rights..........then they backslid ALL that way back. It is a good warning for the U.S. with its fundandamentalist christians, tea partiers and abortion clinic bombers. It can happen here too.

Overpopulation means pollution, resource depletion and wars over resources. Overpopulation is very much a problem for the developed world.

The solution is easy. If you haven't started a family yet, talk about not having more than 2 children of your own. Teach your kids to do the same.
These are the same people that denied global climate change was happening until pictures of icebergs crumbling were common on the evening news.
Don't bother waiting for the American right to open their eyes. They will never admit they are wrong
This link goes to a video of award winning journalist Fareed Zakaria on what he thinks the real burdeon is on the U.S. Economy:

They don't deserve your support

1. Plant Trees
2. If you don't have a family yet, don't have more than 2 kids of your own
3. Don't drive a vehicale that is bigger than you need.
Tell me about it
I'm a troll for literally and simply writing that I am not an Apple fan?
What is "the culture" at Yahoo?
Laid back and government like?
Is she a pragmatic engineering type?

There isn't one major problem the world has that will not be helped by a stabilized global population. Kudos to the Gates family!
The competition between Microsoft and Apple is really starting to look like The Tortoise and The Hare.
Apple suffered so many humiliating defeats back in the day.
Now, they are dominating everything beyond desktop PCs.
Even Objective C is making a comeback.
Apple is really having the last laugh.
Note, I'm a linux user and not particularly a fanboy of either company.
I disagree. I've been using FOSS software since EMACS in college in the 90s. Programmers really do NOT get UI. Many of the changes you complained about I think are useful.
