Food irradiation, which was foisted on the American public by Bush 1's VP Dan Quayle, with no food labeling required sounds similar. A dose of radiation on our food, prevents it from decaying as quickly.

I had a friend in a startup back in the day who would keep an orange in his desk as a joke, saying that he would know if the produce from store X was nuked or not depending on how rotten that orange would get.

When I meet a programmer who is a woman, an attractive woman, a much older person or a non-Caucasian & non-Asian man my automatic thought is "really?" despite my conscious mind knowing better.

Back in the dot com era I went to work with my hair pulled back in a pony tail and it had a similar effect as the author of the article described. Having it was like wearing a power suit in a law office.

The article was about 16 - 24 year olds. They probably already know how to pirate. Ease of sharing was also another issue. Prices can be reduced, but the business model of eBooks seems to be based on reducing sharing, so that road block isn't going away.

    The actual term is "Sane".

Really, it's no different than the delusions that one is Napoleon.
Fierce denial of reality, construction their own delusions, self mutilation... these people need serious mental treatment, not coddling

Manning and other transgender people know what reality is, therefore they are not insane.

They have a mismatch between what their brain thinks their body should look like and what there bodies are like.

It is similar to that story of the woman who wanted to cut her legs off because of a brain defect where the brain's sense of "normal" didn't include legs.

She was perfectly sane, as are most transgender people, they were just born with a defective "checksum" in their brains.

Now, hatred or loathing to people who have done nothing to you, that might just be a diagnosable neurosis, as well as one that might respond to treatment :)
