This, out of the 30 something federal workers I work with 1 will be furloughed. I guess you could call us mission critical, we work on an airfield that supports 0 aircraft.
I would lowball half of federal workers could be eliminated with 0 consequences to the government (probably more like 80%).
I agree with you. The erosion of freedom in this country is disgusting, but the federales have been illegally monitoring for some time now. This legislation will help them feel much better about themselves.
Isn't that what really matters?
If you have an interest in weather it's fairly easy and cheap to start receiving NOAAport broadcasts (which include model data, satellite imagery, radar data, surface observations, etc). Most of the data is going to be overkill if you aren't a meteorologist though.

I work in a mission critical (yeah, not really so much, it's weather) field on an Army post. The network is already pretty much unusable during the 7am, noon, and 3pm rushes without youtube. Luckily being associated with spoiled chil.. pilots we have a non-government cable drop in the office.
It's a similar procedure, but when you go down to the local public security bureau with your letter of guarantee they shoot you in the head and harvest your organs.
So cutting 2% of their income vs freeing up 30% of server resources equates to a loss of profit now huh? I wonder what happens when all those farmers just make new accounts.
I guess you weren't around when they were spending tons of money on new hardware/pissing off the playerbase removing bookmarks/anchored containers to reduce database load.
this was from earlier today: WASHINGTON, March 15 (UPI) -- There has been another "denial of service" cyber-attack against a high-profile Web site, sources told UPI Wednesday -- this time the target was the FBI's own Web page, which was taken out of action for several hours Tuesday. Premptive action on their part perhaps? OH SHIT, another DoS! quick, pull the PDFs before they steal our infoz!
according to my books/astronomy professor it is calculated that dark matter makes up AT LEAST 90% of the matter in the universe (by using rotational velocities of galaxies one can determine how much matter must be contained). WIMPs could be only a small part of dark matter, or they could be the whole sha-bang, tons of research here... About the only they they are sure dark matter is NOT is waffles, too bad too, i'm hungry:(
hoping for something, still got 10lbs of pancake mix just sitting in my cupboard begging for use... and of course, a generator in the basement to run the waffle iron, oh yeah baby. end of civilization == waffles for me!
But i really don't think they're stupid enough to initiate gigantic DoS attacks from systems they could be tied to... i dunno, maybe they ARE that dumb... it seems like if that were the case the FBI would have no trouble tracking them down... just follow the boasts. My own personal opinion is that these attacks originated overseas, korea, china, russia. Either way, no one will ever be brought to justice unless they get caught boasting, unless of course they were indeed dumber than my dad clicking on banner ads with the little windows close "x" in them to get rid of them.
now i realize that it hasn't officially been released yet, officially, it is RTM though... Now... half my hardware either doesn't work, or has limited functionality. My DC240 has no support that i can see, the serial drivers were SUPPOSED to work, haven't investigated fully, but they sure seem like they don't. Creative labs says that they will begin to support win2k on Feb 17th... Gee, what about all those boxes that ship with SBLive? The win2k driver allows it to function, rear outputs do not work... or at least, i couldn't get them too (any ideas on this please email me: stoat@mindless.com Windows 2000 is very stable, i've only had it crash a few times, and all were my fault; used shitty software.
I often remark how it feels exactly like being on welfare.

At least they are trying to make it legal. I'm sure the TURRISTS won't just use standalone encryption.

I was worried for a second, had to check my sabnzbd backup folder to make sure I got this from usenet.
I still have basic cable but rarely use it. Most shows I'd like to watch are posted to usenet within 30 minutes of airing.
Automatic feeds to download what I like in 720p. Don't feel too bad about it since I keep basic for cnbc.

Just set the pile on fire to spite all crybabies. Then point to this thread when little johnny the orphan asks for new socks.

They shouldn't pat themselves on the back too hard over this. The playerbase has been pushing for it for years.
Planetside is an awesome game but it's really really old now, also full of cheaters (client side hit detection/cone of fire is an awesome idea c/d).
WTB Planetside2 without SoE.
Would require TSA agents to be literate.
I hope you will speak with your wallet if you actually care about these issues. Otherwise you're just another whiner.
Hmm. maybe they should spend some money looking at near earth asteroids first... JUST A THOUGHT!
moo.
AHHHHHH. mass exodus to gnutella.
i would LOVE laptop exams, just fire up your irc client and ask away :)

rut ro, looks like the FBI doesn't feel like playing host to a slashdot DoS
