    This, out of the 30 something federal workers I work with 1 will be furloughed. I guess you could call us mission critical, we work on an airfield that supports 0 aircraft. I would lowball half of federal workers could be eliminated with 0 consequences to the government (probably more like 80%).

    I agree with you. The erosion of freedom in this country is disgusting, but the federales have been illegally monitoring for some time now. This legislation will help them feel much better about themselves. Isn't that what really matters?

    If you have an interest in weather it's fairly easy and cheap to start receiving NOAAport broadcasts (which include model data, satellite imagery, radar data, surface observations, etc). Most of the data is going to be overkill if you aren't a meteorologist though. http://www.geo-web.org.uk/noaaport.pdf

    I still have basic cable but rarely use it. Most shows I'd like to watch are posted to usenet within 30 minutes of airing.

    Automatic feeds to download what I like in 720p. Don't feel too bad about it since I keep basic for cnbc.

    I work in a mission critical (yeah, not really so much, it's weather) field on an Army post. The network is already pretty much unusable during the 7am, noon, and 3pm rushes without youtube.
    Luckily being associated with spoiled chil.. pilots we have a non-government cable drop in the office.

    So cutting 2% of their income vs freeing up 30% of server resources equates to a loss of profit now huh? I wonder what happens when all those farmers just make new accounts.

    I guess you weren't around when they were spending tons of money on new hardware/pissing off the playerbase removing bookmarks/anchored containers to reduce database load.

    according to my books/astronomy professor it is calculated that dark matter makes up AT LEAST 90% of the matter in the universe (by using rotational velocities of galaxies one can determine how much matter must be contained). WIMPs could be only a small part of dark matter, or they could be the whole sha-bang, tons of research here... About the only they they are sure dark matter is NOT is waffles, too bad too, i'm hungry :(

    But i really don't think they're stupid enough to initiate gigantic DoS attacks from systems they could be tied to... i dunno, maybe they ARE that dumb... it seems like if that were the case the FBI would have no trouble tracking them down... just follow the boasts. My own personal opinion is that these attacks originated overseas, korea, china, russia. Either way, no one will ever be brought to justice unless they get caught boasting, unless of course they were indeed dumber than my dad clicking on banner ads with the little windows close "x" in them to get rid of them.

    now i realize that it hasn't officially been released yet, officially, it is RTM though... Now... half my hardware either doesn't work, or has limited functionality. My DC240 has no support that i can see, the serial drivers were SUPPOSED to work, haven't investigated fully, but they sure seem like they don't. Creative labs says that they will begin to support win2k on Feb 17th... Gee, what about all those boxes that ship with SBLive? The win2k driver allows it to function, rear outputs do not work... or at least, i couldn't get them too (any ideas on this please email me: stoat@mindless.com Windows 2000 is very stable, i've only had it crash a few times, and all were my fault; used shitty software.
