    determined hackers will get in the system, yes. most of us have accepted that fact. who we don't want on the systems are those joy riding skript kiddies. they make large messes and don't even do anything all that interesting. at least with a determined hacker you can watch and be amused/amazed/not notice until you main competator was an identical product as your's out.

    But IE is free, Netscape is free, mozilla is free, why is Opera still charging for their broswer?

    Probably because that all the Opera people do is make Opera. They don't have other sources of revenue like Microsoft (You know what they sell), Netscape (Web servers and things), mozilla (open source, community effort, no cash involved). So they have to sell their browser. Personally, I like Opera and think $50 isn't to bad for a nice chunk of software that I use alot.

    Are you using a static IP or DHCP? If your useing DHCP you *must* have it send the host name CB###### to get auth for an IP.

    They never did this to me. I had ftp, http and icecast all running with no problems. Maybe the admin on you segment just gave a damn and was REALLY lazy.

    Maybe it's just me, but parent should'nt be a troll. FreeBSD is, in alot of ways, nicer then RedHat. Better install (no X), more utils, and a faster boot. Then again, on Slashdot, if it not Linux, it's a Bad Thing(TM).

    It looks like Sigma Designs does have a Linux DVD player out ONLY for their NetStream 2000 decoder cards. I don't have a DVD driver or a Sigma card so I can't tell you if it works or not, but it exists. Would be lots nicer if it didn't require hardware, but it's a start.

    Yeah I can't use it. But that's the beauty of the plan, you see. If I, the legimete owner of the card, can't use it, then no one else can either.

    I came up with a great way to protect my check card. I always keep -$25 in my accts. That way if anyone tries to steal my number, flags immediately go up at where ever that the cards being used.

    How exactly do you propose that Mars and Jupiter get blown off of Earth? I'm not genius, but I think that they are seperate planets. If you mean just blow them out of the Solar System, just say the word and I'll start shooting at them with my .45.

    why not check the real audio or mp3 demo tracks on cdnow.com?

    1. 30 seconds of a track usually dosn't help much. Listen to Orbital's Halcyon + on + on sometime. A 30 second cut isn't much of a representation.

    why not call tower records and see if they have it in their listening stations?

    gnutella might not have the sex appeal of Napster but gnutella is far more useful.

    I might be talking out my ass, but I belive here at least that each cable modem has it's own internal IP (got told it was for administration and the guy wouldn't say more) at 10.x.x.x/255.0.0.0.

    Have you tried Dans' Discount Human Labor? I've pretty good luck with them so far. 10 'laborers' ( I hate calling them slaves. It's so degrading.) for $5 a month.

    Why would he lose the vote? Because he hired a consulting firm (headed by a being of evil, but not the point) and then Microsoft (look, more evil!) hired the same firm? While I lothe George Bush, I know there are better things not to vote for him for. After all, a power hungry being such as Reed couldn't hold himself back from something as large as Microsoft.

    Ummm, if you read the comment they didn't go with ASF. He dosn't state that they went MP3 but it is implied. Not to sound really pissy but I'm tired of reading statements like yours where either you didn't read or didn't understand the post.
