Novell has in the past, hosted a Partners Workshop whereby they note that Lavonia Lighting out of GA did a migration. You might want to call them and ask where they are in that process. Are they will with Linux? What other services do they use Linux for? How has the ROI and TCO been for them?
Don't just think different. Be Different.
An operating system can at best meet the needs of about 80% of the general population. Unfortunately you can't make everyone happy. (...)
Linux should stop copying Microsoft feature for feature and embrace the differences and features that advanced users love.
Is our school's education all related to money? do we just want to make it cheaper?
From my experience (in America), monetary issues account for 90% of a school system's (collection of schools in a region)business. Only the teachers and principals are concerned with the welfare of the student's education.
Or make it truly better. As much as I don't like Microsoft maybe there are situations where their software is best.
Agreed. Unfortunately, but this is true.
Just saying to dump them because of cost to save 24% sounds appealing at a first glance, but then replacing teachers with babysitters at half the wages would save 50%.
If American schools could do this, they would. BTW, I wouldn't go around suggesting this to anyone (wink wink, nod nod).
Regardless that Solaris may me Open Source, it takes commitment, trust**, and a community to become a success in Open Source. Linux would not have succeeded without that.
How is MS going to love this? I don't understand. What effect really does this have on anything Microsoft? I would be more affraid if I were Steve Jobs.
IIRC, back in 1997, I was running Photoshop 3.x on an SGI O2. Gee, don't they have Photoshop for Mac OS X? I think porting to the Linux platform would be one of the killer apps we've all been looking for. Now, I'm a big fan of Macintosh in the commercial graphics industry, but I've been saying for years, besides a great office suite (see OpenOffice), good image editing and manipulation software would plant Linux right in there as a great desktop alternative.
Yes, this is open for great debate, but the fact is, many companies that can't afford the great Macintosh (no disprespect intended) would gladly plop Photoshop on Linux. But that's my opinion.
Uhhhh, what?
Sounds reasonable enough. You know we are all mostly water anyhow....
WOW is that one butt ugly guy!
Sounds a lot like SCO's case so far.
Has it occurred to anyone that a ban on Novell might be what MS wants: A weaker corporate Open Source alliance?
"Jefferies & Co. analyst Katherine Egbert said Novell's business was likely to suffer if it was banned from using the new versions of Linux."
Just a thought.
Reply to my own post... how shameful.
Question: Are they still with Linux?
he he he

If you crochet Super Hero suits in your spare time... ... you might just be a nerd.
Does this stuff just creep you out too?
Kreeeeepy man. Kreepy.
Need I say more.
I though merely installing Windows was subversion enough. Am I wrong?

Al Gore would up and invent a new one. And wouldn't that just mess things up again.

Wallace was right! The Moon IS made of cheese!
Whoooooo hoooooo!
This has got to be the latest April fools day on record. First we have Zombie Dogs, now space rings. You have to be kidding me... right?
What fool put this up? huh?
.... and it wasn't a war, it was a "Police Action" (or so they'll have you think).
Jesus Christ, now we'll have WindowsVC flooding the market.
In Communist America, Bill Gates Copylefts YOU!
I guess I'm just not getting all this timekeeping stuff. I've been aroud for over 1,308,744,000+ seconds and I still don't _feel_ any older...

They could and the would. They would "Embrace and extort.. er extend" Linux into one big shitpot.
Their worst enemy is themselves. Let them develop Windows to death. Long live Linux.
