In some MMRPG ther are market places where characters meet, sell items to one another or have items up for bid.
Even though it might be for an imaginary currency for an imaginary object, the system is still the same, so would this guy be able to collect from Sony, EA, Microsoft, etc? Or would the game companies drop the public market place model where this type of action could happen? Anywhere where 3 or more characters could meet could be a problem.
Mighty Hero: I have a magic sword +10 DM that I no longer need. Who wants to buy it from me? Newbie: 10 zenny Hero wantabe: 20 zenny
No, because Rap artists pay for the samples. There was a court case which the rapper lost- (The rapper) claiming that a 5 second sample was not subject to payment of royalities- and being bitch slapped by the judge and the recording industry.
I personally think that copying entire albums is stealing; listening to an MP3 might be akin to catching a song on a radio, or taping songs from a radio (falls under fair use).
BUT
Saying that a particular peice of work is yours when it can be clearly proven not to be is theft.
Now back into context of the story, MIT professors included an image which was lifted (Handy Swiped)- and claimed by omitting credit / assigning credit else where that it was theirs is wrong.
No better if I claimed to have sung some top 40 hit that's burned into the minds of pre-teens by Clear Channel.
Well if academic honesty were to be applied to the teachers as well as the students then the grant should be forfeited, the professors who wrote the grant would lose their tenure and placed on probation. The daughter who did the crop and scan should face the same. To plagiarize is wrong, wrong, wrong, and I hope the MA AG takes note of this.
'Correct' your profile to be a 80 year old trans-gendered, trans-racial, Alaskian arc-welder living in New York with a disposible income of $125,000. That aught to cause a few people to pause.
Or just change your address to match double click's...
Remember- the data is only as good as you give it.
The problems abound and are covered quite clearly in other posts.
How I would tackle the problem is to setup a series of CCD (Foveon's X3 would be my choice), with each pixel element feed directly into a huge RAM cache where the data could be loaded off into yet slower storage.
Since we had to deal with charge time (hence the first C in CCD) of 1ms, we'd need 1000 CCDs each with their own data cache and so on.
Then comes the problem of making an image - since we'd be dealing with 1000 CCDs, we're going to have to figure out how to place each pixel so than when that pixel's series fires, we can capture an image which would look like any other series' image.
So this is what you'd be dealing with:
DATA RATE = 3 * (W*H) * 1000 * Time Duration
For giggles:
3*(1024*768) * 1000 * 1s = 2,414,592,000,000 (2,358,000,000 Bytes per second).[1]
Thank you, I'd like a stiff drink now, and film looks mighty good.
[1] If I didn't fuck up my math...
I'm not being narrow minded, I was stating my opinion.
1) I do - I rather not bother my co-workers with my music and I like to jog with music, so headphones are a must for me. 2) True. I have a nice home unit that I enjoy every day. At home, not work, were oddly enough I spend at least 60 hours a week. 3). I was a DJ in college, my CD collection blew past 4000 discs back in '92 (full length CDs, not singles). Granted most of them where free from record companies. I'd love to have access to all of them at any time I want & I perfer to have it in something that I don't need half the house powered to listen to some music.
I don't own an MP3 player (yet). I've been looking at the iPod and Archos units very closely for some time now. As soon as they hit 60GB I'll break down and buy one.
3 - needs a stero reciever in the room to drive the music.
Not saying the SliMP3 doesn't have a place, but for me, I'd perfer to have my music collection in a single unit that I can carry with me.
Now on the downside it appears as if (and this is looking at the flash demo) that they can track information about your music listening habits - and I see an ad on the top of a screen shot (buy 1 get 1 half off - on the Create Playlist screen shot).
I also wonder if I can select which CDDB I get my data from?
What I want to know is:
Would this also work with email virus? I think it would since the virus would also have a defined patern to it and the program would pick it up after the first one.
Could this be made part of the STMP protocol or built into the backbone layer of the network? Again, I no major reason why it couldn't.
Problems that I have with it are:
Since each word is treated as a token and everything else is not, I'm sure that spammer would quickly figure out that a spam like this just might work:

which would show the message but hide the balancing words, so it could be possible to change the delta into your favor.
Does anyone else have thoughts on how this might be broken?
So if Dell is sell the systems for the same price as if Windows was included that means Dell is pocketing a nice hunk of change; What about MS? This has gotta hurt MS' sales since in the past companies buying the PCs would have a site license for x number of machines, plus all the systems coming in would already have an OS license included. Microsoft is taking a hit on this one, right were it hurts the most, in their pocketbook.
Well when Japan gets it's 100 billionth citizen that'll be something they'll have to consider. What did they say, they have 127 million now? Over 1/1000 of the way there.
With the lowest child births in the world, I'm guessing that they'll never need to roll over any of the SSN.
These days almost every film has FX shots that nobody could possibly see. Our first film was 'Showgirls', and I defy anybody to find the dozen shots we did in that movie -- they are not in-your-face effects.
That explains why I thought all of the boobs looked fake...
Do you perfer fiction over non-fiction, historical novels, science books, any authors of note (or hidden jems that you'd like to mention), subjects which have made you stop and rethink issues?
Well this assumes that the African nations can over come the social problems that plague them (build an infrastructure that works, education the population, remove corruption, slow the rate of AIDS, etc). Not saying that it's impossible, and it would be a truly wonderful thing, but I'm not certain that all the countries can pull it off. Certainly places like South Africa, Gambia, Ghana, and Egypt have the ability to move into an information economy, but are they ready socially for the changes that the move requires?

As your boss this question: Would they rather have the correct answer in a day or the wrong answer right now? Of course they want the correct answer, and that's how you then sell them on getting a technical manager. Tell them that while you test as best as you can, you are focusing on the wrong issues which could allow for bugs which will lead to problems and wrong answers. Of course your next question to/. is how to interview a technical manager.
It should make wiretapping that much easier. Just add the faulty facual recognition program and then you know if the guy you are tracking is talking with others that you might have an interest in, or is having a private conversation with his doctor.
Humor aside, am I the only one who is bothered by the ability to use the camera in way which where not intended.
Well that's the good news of the architect being my brother. I know he's going to listen, or I'm going to tell mom.:) As far as aesthetics, well we both have the same tastes so I don't have to worry about that. I should also add that my parents built their own home. I learned a lot about how a house is built, what is needed, what is not needed, and so on. One of those things that you don't enjoy until you get older I guess.
From the sound of the home that your grew up in, it appears that some short cuts where made, which is too bad. But I bet that it was a cool house to live in.
As someone who is planning my own home (brother is an architect, so that saves me some money right there...), this sounds like a great book to check out. I would have liked to have a small summery for each chapter, but that's all. Thank you for your review Jeff.
But what are the odds that the bank, credit card company, and everyone else that you have a business relationship with will simply change the contract (or whatever it is that you sign) that adds the following line: You agree to allow us to resell your information.

Then what example does this set for the students at MIT?
It's okay to steal as long as you don't get caught?

I did fuck up my math, forgot to multiply by the color depth.
So
DATA RATE = 3 * (W*H) * 1000 * Time Duration
Should be:
DATA RATE = 3 * CDept * (W*H) * 1000 * Time Duration
For giggles:
3 * 8 * (1024*768) * 1000 * 1s = 18,874,368,000,000 (18,432,000,000 Bytes per second / 18.5Gps)
Ouchie.
