  1. I'm right (wing) and for .xxx on ICANN Plays Down U.S. Influence · · Score: 2, Interesting

Ok, I'm really missing this argument.

I'm a Christian, very right wing. Also, as sysadmin. I know most righters are against this but I don't really see why.
I would love to have a single TLD to block. I would love to see the original domain rules enforced, and have the XXX sites forced on to .xxx. (as well as have the .org's and .net's enforced)

Someone tell me what the other righters argument is. This isn't going to create MORE xxx sites. I think all porn sites should be given first rights to their equivelent .xxx domain, then make them move.

Then I put "127.0.0.1 .xxx" in every host file I ever see ;)

I mean come on, how much programming do you need to build an appliance that counts button presses. This isn't rocket science, it's counting. My son is 3, he can count. A computer should be able to count a lot more.

Oh, you want to network them so they all count TOGETHER? Like a classroom FULL of children. Ok, go make something and call it tinyTCP, now you can ALL COUNT TOGETHER.

Oh, you have to provide all the names of everyone? Now we have privacy advocates fighting with freedom of information types... It's NCarolina, let 'em shoot it out.

It was CIS 150, C++ was the language of the day (pascal before, java after.) I was taking an exam that was all coding. I remember extensive use of GOTO from my commodore days, so I used one in a test (the objective was to code something with as few lines as possible)

I had the shortest working code in the class but the arse hole teacher failed me for it. Said something like "we don't teach goto for a reason. Yeah, it's in the book, but don't ever use it!"

Yeah, I bought it... nice idea. It was a great game while it lasted... but there lies the probelm. It's WAY to short. Maybe 10 hours of gameplay. The mod scene is non-existant, there are maybe a dozen incomplete mods. When it first came out it was riddled with bugs. I especially like the one where if you leave a certain amount of bugs alive on one level, (even though it tells you you're done) and then get to the last level, the game will crash without showing the end scene. Apparently you can't load mods until you've finished the game... It also won't let you reset the level to try again..... There was no fix, just play the entire game again, and make sure you don't trigger the bug this time.

I think THAT'S why no one is buying the game.

  16. My Died works on Programming and Dieting? · · Score: 1

Let me tell you about my diet. I lost 20pounds (screw metric) and about 2".

I used to do tech support for a computer company. Think Geeksquad, but without the stupid name. I'd go from company to company during the day, work on their network, their servers, under their desk... It was a LOT of moving around. The catch was, since I was out, I always ate out. Mexican 3 times a week, Chinese 2. (After eating mexican, you're hungry again at 6pm, chinese - 3pm) I was nearly 200lbs, all on a pot-belly.

Now I work full time for a single company, mostly doing web development. I SIT all day long. I have coffe for breakfast, Ramen noodles for lunch, and then eat a huge dinner because I'm freakin starving by the time I get home! I should also mention I've had 2 kids since then. Not much more activity, but I have a LOT less money. Yeah, I'm broke. Hence, ramen noodles.

at this point I'm just rambling and I'm not even sure what the point of the parent story was anymore. Don't try my diet. I hate it. I'm hungry right now. I will be hungry till I get home. At least my wife has dinner waiting for me, and she's a good cook.

And when I'm sitting around on the couch, watching a game, and we aren't all for the same team, it's great to fight over if the ball was in or not.

I think the UN should just take it over. And in doing so, create their own internet, and sever any links that connect the US from the rest of the world.

I mean hey, that would take care of all the issues with the chinese people seeing all those websites about freedom and democracy.

Me being a USian wouldn't really have a probelm with it. Yeah, there are some nice bbc.co.uk articles worth reading. New Zealand and Australia have some nice things every now and then, but other than that I won't notice. I'd go as far as saying that 90% of the americans on the internet wouldn't really notice if the rest of the world left us.

NO, WAIT I'M WRONG! We WOULD notice. Our levels of Spam would suddenly become a fraction of what it is now. No more spam from russia and china. Sounds GREAT TO ME!

And as a sysadmin, this would really take care of our ipv4 issues. Now we can get all those IP's back that we gave to the rest of the world. We won't have to move to IPv6 anytime soon.

Sure, some companies may do business overseas, so the big ISP's can build a 'gateway' product. Let them pay per meg to use it. All international traffic can go through there. Those can be run by EU/UN friendly companies.

So, bring it on world. Cut us off. See if we care! The South shall rise again!

  25. I'd rather ajax than java on Google & Sun Planning Web Office · · Score: 1

One of the things I hate the most about java is load time. It seems no matter what I run, I have to wait before it's running. Even once it's going it never seems snappy. Yeah, I know ajax is going to be constantly performing IO between me and the server where Java will do a lot of IO at the beginning and much less later.

I never have been much of a java fan because it seems to make itself very obvious that you're running java. It says a lot when you allways have to sufface something with "...but it's java."
