yeah, i remember a story in the amusing Daily Mail (u.k.) about people exporting `hi tech` equipment into Russia... turns out they were talking about Motorola 68k`s.... i`m sure getting hold of a few megadrives would have been reeeeally haaaard.
Er.. consoles `do well` whatever they`re programmed to do well... So, in my opinion, the PSX was programmed to `do well` more often than the N64, so it makes it a `better` console...in terms of `which one shall i buy`.
When PSX2 gets out, and developers and users both get into it, it`ll `do better` than Dreamcast. Which console are they more excited about? Theres no contest. Ask a developer...:)
(FYI - NFL is not of interest outside of the states.)
"Dreamcast already has this now. Does anyone know how useful this is? "
The Dreamcast? I cant think of any use for it, no. Theres no really good games out for it, and when the PSX2 hits the U.S/Europe, then its all over for Sega...
from www.theregister.co.uk, story `Metallica sues Napster` :
--- Metallica and the companies that publish its music and are assigned its copyrights, Creeping Death Music and the decidedly un-rock'n'roll sounding E/M Ventures, base their claims on the way Napster's software allows users to trade in illegal copies of the band's music across the Net.
That, said the band's drummer, Lars Ulrich, is "in effect, trafficking in stolen goods.
"We take our craft - whether it be the music, the lyrics, or the photos and artwork - very seriously, as do most artists. It is therefore sickening to know that our art is being traded like a commodity rather than the art that it is,"
"From a business standpoint, this is about piracy - aka taking something that doesn't belong to you; and that is morally and legally wrong," ---
I thought it was just me! The guys a twat, and all his games are shite. I know i know, its subjective and all that... but in my opionion they`re all just the same game. Theme parks, hospitals etc etc who cares! If Lemmings was rereleased, only with a different animals and different graphics, it`d still be Lemmings.
Someone had to say this...i know i`m not alone here!
I`m quite surpised that theres not more MS source floating around, given the number of people who`ve worked there, the fact they supposedly sack 5% of their programmers each year etc (or is that an urban myth?). You`d think someone would have got a job there just to get it and not been bothered if they`d been caught. Then again, i read a story once by Guy Kewney (u.k. journo, has his head screwed on), saying he`d believe MS if they said they`d lost the source to windows...its that sort of a company...
well, you probably already knew this but you can get beeb emulators (and chucky egg!) etc from http://www.vintagegaming.com/ actually, no mention of the bbc there, but its on the net somewhere, i had a look a year or so ago...
Couldnt you have a really low off time, if you took a snapshot of ram when you shut down? and from time to time too. Whats the problem with this? Be a good excuse to keep the amount of ram on a system low, surely? Machines are way overspecced, given what work they actually do, these days... (ie. its the os that needs it all, not the apps).
Didnt `revs` do this? and possibly aviator, but i doubt it actually. frak was *way* overated (though i loved his (orlandos) Zalaga...
Eagles nest was a classic, planetoid, pacman (back when Atari was suing everyone), android escape, cool text adventures (sphinx, level 9 stuff too, like `time machine`).
I`ll shut up now...

:) We had `reboot` in the u.k. Made `akira` look like it produced was for grownups...
(All i can remember about it (akira) now was people shouting `AKIRA!!!! TETSUO!!!!! NOOOOOOOOO!` all the time. A meaningless plot, and a giant rabbit or something, like that marshmallow man from Ghostbusters. Awful... awful...)
>Original Series. Great concept, low budget, good cast ruined by W. Sh1tners terrible acting. He's a total ashole in real life btw.
I`ve heard this..although you have to give him at least a little respect for appearing on Clive James (u.k.) chatshow about 5 years ago, pissed (thats drunk, for you americans - it means the opposite over here!)... at the end, Clive asked him if he still knew any Klingon, and he said some phrase... Apparantly after the show the BBC switchboards received a few calls from orthodox Jews, complaining that what he`d actually said was `my dick up your ass` in Hebrew!
(Source: Private Eye, so you tell me if its true!)
This works - how? I just dont get it. Whats the theory behind this fascinating use of psychology? Isnt it a bit like refusing to copy-protect software to twart crackers?
Bizarre...and futile. I`ll bet anyone anything that there`ll still be DOS attacks after this.
>once a content providor starts excersizing editorial control of any content, they become liable for all content on their site, regardless of whoever posted
What, you`re telling me that if you posted a message selling drugs (or whatever) on a Republican party/Big Company site chat room/message board, then they`d be responsible? Lets hope no-one does it and brings it to the attention of the authorites then; that`d be terrible!
Yeah, i`m not saying they did anything wrong. Or right! I`m just saying that IF the law says its wrong to hold auctions of illegal stuff, regardless of how much effort it would take to prevent it, then saying `this isnt our fault` wont mean anything in court.
i cant see it being too hard to flag messages that contain certain words (warez, backup, cdr etc) for manual inspection, provide a `complain about this item` option, etc...
The only difference between a yahoo/ebay auction, and a newsgroup, where similar things are permitted, is that in the case of newsgroups, no-one bothers suing the owners of the servers the messages are held on, as no-one says `look at us - we host this! click on this banner for some shite you`ll never want` (does anyone actually intentionally click on ad banners?)
Well, if they legally ARE responsible, then they cant just say they ARENT responsible. If i am about to shoot someone, i cant just say `this isnt murder` and then do it!
So i guess Sega et al are testing this theory out. You cant blame them, if people are just blatantly selling pirate games. I`m sure you`d do the same if you worked for them. Otherwise you`d just release the games as freeware?

Whens his next album out? I`ve been waiting for `the rage and the fury`, `repercussions` and `dance me this` for years....
(to say nothing of the hundreds Synclaver tunes he`s done...)
Anyone know?

...So you`re saying `dont try and reproduce them until someone else has reproduced them`?
How productive.
