    I agree - OpenOffice works well with win98, and you can load Office XP files easily.

    I still use it on my fast Athlon. I use it and Linux because I multiboot.

    I only reinstalled win98 twice.
    Win98 works well for me, though I'm a power user. All the apps and hardware I need has drivers... and they aren't old cards I'm talking about.

    On the contrary, once I get better drivers for my hardware e.g. dvb-s card under Linux, I'll switch to Linux even more for my day to day use.

    Some local artists are releasing their CD's which are really CD-R's.

    But the price is the same regular expensive one.

    I wonder how right it is to label it a CD when it's a CD-R?

    I don't doubt it will be adopted due to popularity of widescreen tv's, and to a lesser extent new technologies such as projection screens/tv's etc.

    Thing is , the dvd player in your home is likely to be made in china. So your next player will support EVD most probably.

    A good number of DVD players (in my country - All of them) are made in china. That makes them cheaper. With EVD they will be cheaper still. Everyone will find it useful because it's cheaper.
    Nobody is threatened. It's a good idea I think.

    I don't think they will be illegal to sell actually in Europe.

    Because that would go against the fair competition principle.

    Most dvd players themselves are made in china.

    I bet that my new DVD player in a couple of years time will be capable of playing these disks and that they will become commonplace...

    Just boot with Tom's Rescue Disk.

    You can use it to format a hard disk, fdisk etc.
    Then mount the cdrom with your distro
    and copy the files.
    Call lilo from your distro using chroot
    to finalise the thing, and voila' your distro is ready.

    Sure, it's not your neighbourhood friendly installer, but it works fine.

    What you can't play MPEG2 files?
    DVB-S uses mpeg2. Does DVB-T use something else?

    Convert them to XVID then...
    you need avisynth and virtualdubmod to do this decently.

    In Malta, if you send an email to a local council (which uses the government's mail servers), you have to be careful not write any word in CAPITALS, or your entire email will be blocked as 'SPAM'.

    it's best to write to them in complete lower-case
    just in case the system trips over....

    In Malta, ISP's have to pay thousands to the communications authority which regulates them.

    It would be expensive for journalists, no doubt.

    I presume ISP's don't pay license fees in the USA.
    This is done locally to prevent Momma and Poppa shops becoming ISP's and to keep the 'few' select who can pay the fees as the local ISP's.
