It's not hypothetical and you can change Apple to any other company. To have a Win 8 tile you apparently need to be in the store which means paying 30% and following their rules which are nearly identical to Apple's.
Yeah like Windows store is a walled garden with a 30% fee. Why should Apple go through Windows store to have a tiled application on Windows 8? Because that's what Microsoft wants.
I have no problem with people being against walled gardens. There's a good reason to be against them but Microsoft doesn't have a leg to stand on. They jus tlook like hypocrites.
Play and Amazon both take 30% so what benefit is there to Microsoft (who also takes 30% from their store sales) and Android is the worst because Google basically makes you open up your phone to vulnerabilities just to add legit sources like Amazon.
And what fee do you think is right for someone that has to supply unlimited bandwidth and insfratructure support to get your app to people everytime they want to reinstall it as well as free 5gb of backup space.
If that's so unreasonable then why is Microsoft taking 30%? Even Google takes 30%. Microsoft just wants special treatment and quite frankly they can suck it. That's not fair to the small developers.
How can java and safari be to blame? Unless of course an employee was surfing porn or something questionable and his PC was hijacked but I would say the problem is with twitter not doing more to protection their employee machines and network.
With OpenGL I can take Nintendo, Sony and the PC. That covers many more gamers. Globally the PS3 over took the Xbox last month. So the only single platform the Xbox beats is vita and I guess the 3DS.
No it's the least used platform. More people have something else and in fact globally it's been taken over by the PS3 so even on just home consoles its least relevant. Windows phone is also dead last. The only major platform that uses D3D doesn't require it.
Exactly. People are short sighted though and think the rent model allows them to have more crap than they can really afford and it might sometimes but them you'll eventually lose it all.
They're only cheap if you buy them on like -75% deals and even then I do mind my rights. Every company would love to go to subscription models for everything but you might as well be a slave at that point. It's good for people to reassert our rights every so often.
Given that Firefox isn't an advertising company or someone with a second rate search engine and trying to be number 1 by snooping on your searches there is a valid case for them being better.
For security, Chrome has more vulnerabilities than Firefox, it's up with IE. Google and Microsoft hold more data on you worth stealing so you're going to be more valuable target.
I get the impression all companies just want to invent new devices in order to sell low spec hardware and work their way up to something we should have had in the first place.
The pad is just becoming a laptop with a detachable keyboard and smart phones are just getting ridiculous. The fact HTC can consider selling a phone accessory to a smart phone says it all really. I'll stick with the MacBook Air if I want a small portable computing device. It'll do everything I want better than a tablet.
Given how many people use gmail I'm sure Google+ has more people that have an account but they need to find a way to determine how many people actually want to use Google+
It could explain why the numbers don't match up with web stats or some people are just wasting their time with a smart phone. I wouldn't bother with a mobile phone at all if I couldn't use the internet every day. Even with my old G1 I'd surf Slashdot even if it was the worst possible way to view the site.
Do I believe Google does? Of course. In fact they're pretty open about a lot of snooping and they try pushing real name policies and other shit to make it easier to shill crap on the web. Why would I not believe they're not snooping on me every single chance they get?

Yes but even if they have no choice doesn't mean they have to do it for free.
You're right Microsoft can provide their store and they do and they take 30%. So really for them to claim Apple is being unfair is hypocritical.
Play and Amazon both take 30% so what benefit is there to Microsoft (who also takes 30% from their store sales) and Android is the worst because Google basically makes you open up your phone to vulnerabilities just to add legit sources like Amazon.
What cut do you think retail takes?

I agree it is speculation and you're right about ads. But either way, I'm glad I use Linux without Java.

I'd say they're different things. Cowboy coders were still good. Brogramming requires being a douche and gym time.
Don't worry, brah. You can still drink red bull.

It's a good way to get rid of a lot unnecessary states!
Keep your hardware. If they paid the amount of tax it'd benefit the schools a lot more.

You can get a keyboard so it's effectively a laptop that comes apart and lives in a closed garden

Do I believe rackspace spies on me? No

Because you prosecute the one who did the crime. Do you sue you car manufacturer when your car gets broke into?
Given how many more iphone users use the internet over android users it's by far the most userd mobile / tablet browser.
Google doesn't really provide anything for free other than other people's content or their complete ripoff of facebook.
