They want to use a "real" environment probably because it is real, and not some CGI crap that looks fake.

  3. Should we still recycle? on Cradle to Cradle · · Score: 1

I haven't read the book, so I don't know if they mention this or not. Since they say that recycling is not the answer and is bad, should we stop doing it, or continue to recycle what we can, in the meantime, until the "real" solutions present themselves and become commonplace and economically feasible?

  6. Re:Why do people bother with inkjets? on HP Must Defend Half-Empty "Economy" Ink Cartridges · · Score: 1

People bother with color inkjets because some people actually do print things in color (brochures, cd labels, photos, etc.) and color laser printers cost a couple thousand dollars. Color laser printers typically cost about $1 a page for toner, B/W or Color. If the typical inkjet cartridge costs $50, then it would be cost effective (consumables only) if your inkjet could only print under 50 pages per cartridge. I don't know about your inkjet, but mine prints a helluva lot more than that per cartridge. Add the difference in hardware cost, and it really makes no sense. The only reason to get a color laser printer is if you need the MUCH better quality prints. And most everyday people don't need that.

Actually, if you read the article, the Service Pakc not provides aninterface for setting "default" middleware applications for certain media types. I know you have seen the annoying dialog boxes that proclaim something is not your default, would you like to change it to be default. This allows users to choose from a menu what they want their defaults to be.

  10. Another Class Action lawsuit on Gaming Companies Being Sued Over Columbine · · Score: 1

So when do we get to file a class action lawsuit against the generation of parents out there who work too much, spend no time with their kids, don't get involved with what they are doing, blame schools, techers, coaches, everyone when their kids do something wrong, or don't do their homework, or don't do well in school, basically blame everyone else for who their kids grow up to be such problems. Give me a break! Parents have a responsibility to know what their kids are doing, who they talk to, what they like to do, and basically KNOW who their kids are. There is absolutely no grounds to go and blame the media or gaming companies or whatever for the kids problems. If they were involved in their kids lives, they would have know what they were up to, known not to expose them to certain inappropriate media and things would have turned out very differently. I get sick and tired of this generation of parents who don't give a shit about their kids and think it is everyone else's responsibility to make sure they grow up to be good upstanding adults.

  11. Yes I did. on Do You Consider Your Social Life When You Choose A Career? · · Score: 1

I got three offers for a tech job out of college. One was in Detroit, MI, another in Boston, MA, and a third in Newark, DE. Now in considering which job to take, I factored in three things: the job duties, the pay, and the location. All three were important, because I value my happiness as my number one priority. Job duties helped me figure out if I would like doing the work, and a combination of pay and location told me 1) if I could afford to live where the job was, 2) if I would have enough money to spend for "entertainment" and 3) if my out of work life would fulfill my number one priority. I turned down the job in Detroit because the pay wasn't good enough, AND I coudn't see having that much fun in the Detroit area (I went to U of M in Ann Arbor). I turned down the Boston job because the pay wouldn't sustain an enjoyable life up there (barely would have been able to afford to live there, much less have fun there) even though Boston is a great city. The DE job was a good combination of the three, so here I am. Work is not my life, so where I live, and how my job contributes to living the lifestyle I choose to, is very important to me.

  13. Flex time is good on What Are Advantages/Disavantages To Flex Time? · · Score: 1

Our company has a flex time policy, similar to a comment I read here. It is loosly based around employees being present between the core hours of 9-3, then only that a 40 hour work week (more if projects deem so) be met. If more is required, then there is an unspoken policy that comp time can be taken. It all evens out, and makes it much easier for us to feel like we can take care of "the things in life" that always need to be taken care of, like doctor's appts., dentist appts, parent - teacher conferences, etc, without thinking that we will be late for work, since we can just stay later, or come in earlier. I for one, love flex time, just because it lets me have more flexibility when things come up that I can't schedule weeks or months in advance.
