    Perhaps, the 9.3 people per square mile contributes to that. and it had a murder rate per 100,000 people of 1.9 in 2007 with a population of 640,000 many dense suburban areas with heavy gun controls see similar rates

    No, a trial is where they determine innocence of guilt with the assumption of innocence. An officer of the law only needs reasonable suspicion. A judge granting a warrant only has to believe that legally valid evidence is present. A grand jury only has to say this evidence could mean he did it. Only at the trial phase is guilt the question at hand. I am not a lawyer, but i play one on slashdot.

    While the private school may be more efficient, it really isn't a fair comparison. Private schools can cherry pick students and avoid ones that add costs or just difficulties. Consider the cost of one student with moderate learning disabilities. It will be a hell of a lot more expensive to educate them than to than it will be to educate a healthy student. A private school can be more selective. A public school has to take any kid in the area.

    Name a major city without any gang violence. Sure it can be reduced to background noise levels, but it will always be there. So you are right they are similar and perhaps taking draconian measures to prevent either is silly.

    We have no way to win a war on terrorism. It is a tactic, not an enemy. Holding someone until the end of hostilities with no charges in an endless war is a pretty bad idea.

    Health and safety codes can only verify sanitation at the time of inspection. It may have even been unsanitary at the time of the visit.

    I feel anonymity should be encouraged. Widespread use makes one person who is unwilling to give out their name for a damn good reason less noteworthy.
