  1. This crosses so many boundaries on Why Scott Adams Wished Death On His Dad · · Score: 1

It's sad to hear a guy who's given us so much laughter be in such pain over his father's situation. We all have to deal with this at some point in our lives and as we get older we see more of our loved ones passing away, some suddenly while others have a long, slow road to the afterlife. Unfortunately because of the religious, moral and political boundaries this crosses society as a whole just isn't ready to take this discussion on. People should be allowed to choose how and when they leave their existence due to severe medical ailments. A mechanism should be in place to allow people to leave with dignity and in those situations where they are unable either physically or mentally to make that decision themselves, the families should be able to make that decision with proper oversight and checks. No child wants to see their parents suffer nor do friends and loved ones want to see somebody they care about in a terminal situation that has no benefits to the suffering individual but there needs to be an open dialog about the subject. I have the same problem now but it's a little different. I have a step mother in a nursing home and a father, 85, still living at home. He's mentally active and tough as nails but he refuses even basic senior living services. If he loses his ability to drive, which is coming soon believe me, I will have to put him into a nursing home as well. He'll hate that but being a Marine who has fought in three wars but we've already had the discussions and the powers of attorney signed and the living wills done etc. but deep down I still don't think I can make that decision alone. Scott I hope this works out for you eventually but don't hate, people just try to do their best and unfortunately sometimes that just means that things aren't as sympathetic or as compassionate as we'd like.

Wait, so you're blaming bi-partisanship on the fact that the DHHS mismanaged a project. A project which: A) They had more than sufficient funds available. B) A Mandate in terms of legislative action. C) An executive branch lead by the guy who pushed this shit through?

I'm sorry but if somebody gave me over $300 million to develop a website with the requirements that these guys had, it would be done and our contract would have had penalties for failure to deliver. None of these contractors who put this mess together have yet to be held accountable for their own mismanagement and that is at the heart of why government projects like this fail, the contractors always have weasel clauses that the government allows, ultimately releasing them from blame when things go Tango Uniform. There's ample fees and revenue to be made for change orders which do nothing but encourage the project management team to encourage them to the stakeholders, causing delays and increasing the overall cost of the project. Healthcare.gov has had over $300 million spent on it and it's still doesn't work. Now they've extended dates and shifted delays and I'll bet you within 3 to 6 months they'll try to scrap it and start over. In the meantime you'll get a friendly letter from the IRS saying you owe a penalty because you haven't signed up because now there's thousands of new public servants at that vaunted institution just looking to fuck you over because the T wasn't crossed or some other problem that the government created but now it's your problem. "Oh you couldn't sign up? not our problem, we're the IRS and we're always right and you're wrong."

This whole piece of shit legislation was thrown together by a bunch of morons who wanted to look good. I won't quote that retard Pelosi but the fact that nobody read the legislation. It was over 2000 pages long and more than anything else, shows how truly fucked we are in this country because at that point when legislation gets railroaded through like this because "Teddy is dying and we need to show we still lick the Kennedy's nutsacks in DC" Is no reason the rest of us have to take it up the ass. So while you blame gridlock let's not forget that for two years the Democrats pushed all this shit down our throats, not reading the legislation and trusting that it would all work out; Glinda the Witch of the North will wave her wand and make it all better.

Don't believe me? In 2009 after the ARRA was passed I had the privilege of flying from DC to Raleigh Durham, sitting behind two Congressmen heading back home, one newly elected on Obama's coattails. They were high fiveing the crew when they came on-board "We passed it!" one exclaimed. During the brief flight they kept handing pieces of the ARRA legislation back and forth with one saying "I didn't know that was in there!?" The other being so myopic that even with glasses he held the pages about 2 inches from his nose to read them.

Let's take somebody from a privileged background with good breeding and then transpose his life with that of a common man. More specifically a petty thief with inferior parental lineage. At the same time we'll take the petty thief and give him all of the privileges, money and responsibilities in life. I assert that the man of good breeding will always conduct himself with dignity and honor regardless of the circumstance while the petty thief will always act like a common thug. Also push on your locally elected officials to enact a privacy first approach in their dealings because they're the ones who approve license plate scanners, red light/speed cameras and other little conveniences to generate revenue. In my city we've outlawed red light cameras but the police have license scanners on a lot of their cars, so we're working to get deletion/retention policies enacted. Also, de-Google and de-Facebook your friends and family. Get them off the "rewards programs" that stores use to track you and your purchases and tell them to put their cell phone/toll tags anti-RF bags when not in use. Besides for the toll issues they have license plate readers anyway so just keep the tag out of the vehicle or in the bag.
