  1. The Wrong Cachet on US Court Orders Company to Use Negative Keywords · · Score: 1

I guess "Onion Residential Finance" would bring a tear.

  2. They Can Have Vista! on Cuba Lifts Ban on Home Computers · · Score: 2, Funny

I'd be happy to send them every copy of Vista that I own, but that might scare them back into severe isolation.

  3. For a $1M Grant... on ASIMO to Conduct Symphony Orchestra · · Score: 3, Insightful

I'd be willing to listen to robots play a kazoo arrangement of "Feelings" five times. Without earplugs!

  4. Essay Test on Google's Audio CAPTCHA Falls To Automated Attack · · Score: 1
I'm sorry it's come to this, but before you may log on, I'll need a 200 word essay on the virtues of Microsoft. Spelling and grammar will count against you, especially if they are perfect. That means either you are a machine or you need to lighten up. Did I mention the five minute time limit?

    Scary, isn't it?

  5. Finding a Niche on India Launches 10 Satellites At Once · · Score: 1
It seems India has found a niche to fill in the space game. They serve a low/medium highly inclined polar orbit, not nearly geostationary, but still a need to be filled.

Isn't this supposed to be the century India passes China as the most populous nation on earth? Those folks are going to need jobs.

  6. Re:Awesome! on First Superheavy Element Found In Nature · · Score: 1

We may have to wait for the Chinese to discover it first.

  7. Design, Then Streamline on Average Web Page Size Triples Since 2003 · · Score: 1

Huge pages are fine when I'm in civilized countries with real networks. When I'm traveling in less developed areas and have to carry my own connectivity, it would be very helpful (far less frustrating) to have a thin (text only) option on every web page. I hate to say it, but there ought to be a law.

  8. Gotta Say It... on Five Days Locked in a Room With GTA IV · · Score: 3, Funny
    Get a Life!

No you can't download one. Second Life does not count.

  9. Racquetball! on The Future of Space Sports · · Score: 1

Put a magnet in the ball and use a metal floor within a composite cylinder. Composite racquets of course.

  10. Re:" As per usual?" on 500 Thousand MS Web Servers Hacked · · Score: 1

Unlike Aspercream and Aspergum, Asperusual appears to be a "suppository preposition."

    Oh, here. Nevermind.

  18. Re:Onerous Burden on Businesses? on Companies To Be Liable For Deals With Online Criminals · · Score: 1
Actually, the government already requires similar actions by it's contractors. Before letting a subcontract, the prime contractor must ensure that the subcontractor is not banned from working under government contracts. This is done by accessing a government provided database, via the web.

Now, if only we can keep the "online criminals" from hacking the database with a SQL injection exploit... :-O

  20. Fair Play on Researchers Infiltrate and 'Pollute' Storm Botnet · · Score: 4, Interesting

I submit that it's inherently fair and perfectly ethical to disrupt those who invade and steal from others. Even if the theft is one of compute cycles. Usually, we call those who disrupt invaders and thieves "heroes."

  21. Re:Post-Literary World on US Spies Use Custom Video Games for Training · · Score: 3, Informative
That would explain the general decline in US literacy all right.

I doubt that independent studies would confirm your hypothesis regarding changing styles of learning. I've not seen or heard of any accepted study which demonstrated any fundamental shift other than a decline in literacy. I would welcome any valid input in that regard.

Educators have taken up the mantra that we must change our assessments to meet new types of learning. However valid or invalid that arguement, "old" or "standard" types of learning appear to be declining.

  22. Hard to Say "No." on House Republicans Renew Push for Telecom Immunity · · Score: 1

IMHO, it's probably hard to say "no" to the White House, no matter which form they take and no matter how many lawyers you employ. Given this, I feel the telcos deserve full immunity for past compliance with WH requests under FISA and much clearer terms for all future FISA actions.

  23. Don't Tell Dell! on AMD's Triple-Core Phenom X3 Processor Launched · · Score: 1

Dell is offering an Intel Core 2 Quad in their Optiplex 755. Boy are they gonna be mad when they find out they've been duped (or quadded?) by Intel. Maybe they'll start selling AMD processors in their desktops or something.
