Avie Tevanian was one of the more important software engineers at NeXT, but he wasn't the only one. He wasn't one of the NeXT founders, he was hired after NeXT was started.
The Apple ][ originally competed with the Commodore PET (and a number of other early personal computers). The Apple ][ had color and good sound support, while Commodore didn't have that until the Commodore 64, which was released in 1982. (The Apple ][ was released in 1977.) The Apple ][ also had a good, fast, inexpensive and reliable floppy drive while Commodore released a number of slow and expensive floppy drives.
Perhaps my setup was more power draining than yours, but I had a keyboard, mouse and wifi dongle plugged in and the B+ didn't have enough juice to run them all. After switching to a powered hub it started working.

I'd suggest you read something, perhaps something outside of your professional area. Reading up on things outside of your area of focus can help you develop as a programmer, see things in a different light, etc...
I agree with you that science would be better than just being a coder, but I think coding could help if it contributes to a person's ability to think logically and consistently.

Another time he said “If I’m outside your building trying to catch a cab, they’re not saying, ‘Oh, there’s a mixed-race guy.’” The point is part of the reason he probably identifies as black is because that is how other people see him. Most people think in terms of simple race categories. (I myself am of mixed-race and I know it is a pain to have to explain this, often multiple times to the same people.)
If you look up the definition of abnormal in a dictionary, such as this one or this one. You get definitions like: ": different from what is normal or average : unusual especially in a way that causes problems" or "Not typical, usual, or regular; not normal; deviant. odd in behaviour or appearance; strange". So even if the word has a sense as you indicate, other senses of the word are pejorative.
I was wondering when the ugly racist interpretation was going to raise its head. So, far a long time Neanderthals were thought of as more primitive than humans, but now that it is known that most Europeans have Neanderthal DNA (and most Africans don't), they are being re-interpreted as being the origin of the master race.

Git is better for productivity than svn, especially with regard to handling branches and merging. The sooner we get away from it the better.
So many of the Google Code projects are stuck on svn. Hope they migrate over to git.
Most software ends up in the trash anyway. That's just the way the tech industry is.
Better to shut down this product and have the engineers work on something that is more rewarding for everyone involved.
