The 8800 is a new architecture. You can't do a straight shader to shader comparison. If you did, then the 8800 GTX with it's 128 units should be six times as powerful as your 24 shader card. It's not. When comparing apples to apples, the 8800 to the 8600/8500, you can see that the hardware simply isn't going to hold up to increasingly demanding games when it has 1/3 the memory throughput and 1/4 or 1/8 the number of shaders. Look at the benchmarks that are coming out, they don't lie. The 7900s are as powerful as the 8500/8600, and depending on the game and resolution sometimes even come out quite a bit ahead.
Compared to their big brothers these new cards are highly castrated. These cards have 32 shader units to the 96 and 128 found on the 8800 GTS and GTX respectively, and the memory interface is only 128bit, while it's 320 and 384 on the GTS 640 and GTX. From the benchmarks I've been seeing, these cards aren't anything to get excited about. By the time DX10 games see the light of day we'll probably see far more powerful cards for less money. Anybody buying to play right now would be better off sticking with the high end last generation cards, or bite the bullet and get an 8800.
If you weren't such a fucking moron you'd realize that brandishing a firearm is against the law for CCW license holders. CCWs don't wander around with their guns drawn looking for people to shoot, asshole.
I use Gmail through the web interface almost exclusively. But I also log in periodically with Thunderbird through POP to download all recent mail so I have a local copy. I don't want my entire email history to belong to Google anymore than I would want it to belong to Microsoft.
That is not legal. Downloading it still making a copy, which is prohibited under copyright. Should it be covered under fair use? I'd say definitely, but I don't think that particular issue been tested by the courts yet.
Your indie music suggestions works, but old music? Unless you have it on a wax cylinder, chances are that's locked up by copyright and the RIAA members as well. Keep in mind that copyright has been extended retroactively.
This happens to me all the time. There's a town near my home that has the worst sensors I've ever run across. I can usually move my bike back and forth and get the sensor to detect me, but somehow this towns lights simply don't like motorcycles. Twice I've been pulled over for turning left against a red light, and both times the cops let me go because they understood the light would never turn red for me. If it had been a camera I'd either pay a fine or spend a day in court each time it happened. Either way it sucks.
Yes, I was one of those convinced to dive into DVD when The Matrix was released. I am also one of those who became tired of crappy new technology being released before it's ready when my brand new DVD player refused to play the movie I just bought.
If HD discs are still around and a significant majority of the movies I want to own are in that format in a few years, I may consider buying one. Until then I have better things to spend money on.
Did you even read the GP? He didn't say anything about companies going out of business. He said nobody will buy them, which is true. What percentage of the market does Lamborghini have? 0.001%? If you really think that electric cars having that kind of market share will help reduce carbon emissions, I'm not sure if there's any hope for you.
I hate phones that play pop songs, and I prefer opening windows to A/C as well. I love the sounds of nature, chirping birds and a gurgling stream are music to my ears. But I do love the sound of a big V8 rumbling by my house, and the sound coming out of the aftermarket pipes on my bike still makes me giddy every time I fire it up. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Rockstart doesn't use actual locations, their cities are all parodies of real cities. I haven't played the game, but I believe the True Crime games actually use the real maps of the cities in which they take place.
I also loved Media Play back in the day. Out in the middle of BFE (St. Cloud, MN) it was the only place around with a decent selection of software, movies, games, music and books. I did notice that they significantly changed the stock at some point, but didn't realize at the time it was due to a Best Buy buyout. Now it all makes sense.
Fuck you and the horse you rode in, asshole. I was called up on jury duty a couple summers ago and proudly served my part in the judicial system. Maybe if selfish fucking pricks such as yourself would actually do their civic duty the legal system wouldn't be the joke it is today.
Who would the capitalists run crying to when somebody stole their precious "intellectual property" without big government? Hell, intellectual property only exists due to government. Don't be surprised when those with a vested interest spend large amounts time and money trying to bend the law in their favor.
The more laws that exist, the greater the reward for controlling the law. If you want capitalists to have less powerm, have fewer laws not more.
If people would rather listen to your CD than see you live, maybe you just need to learn to put on a decent show. I have a favorite local indie band I follow religiously. I own all their CDs, yet I still managed to go to their concert last weekend, as did an entire club full of other people. So maybe your live show just sucks.
I love my XBMC box. The only thing it doesn't do is HD video. If/when the 360 gets cracked properly and we see XBMC360, that'll be my new home entertainment system.
If someone designed an engine that ran on burning kittens, would that be better than fossil fuels? The GP was right, alternative simply for the sake of an alternative is not necessarily better.

The fact that you actually admit to playing Second Life renders your opinion useless around here.

What mess would that be again? The fossil fuel powered mess that transports food from the producer to your fat mouth?
You realize of course that suggesting that a girl sing does nothing to help people on this site.

When you say "state level" do you mean state level as in when California voted to legalize medicinal marijuana and the feds didn't care?
Maybe you should start worrying.

Other than that, I agree with your post 100%. It's the only reason I bothered to correct you. :)
"beckoned call"
Beck and call.
And yes, I'm a grammar nazi. Sorry.
Welcome to big government.
