Hardly any excuse for you NOT to use RAID. Rely on your ISP to backup -- what about updates for that day between the backup and failure time? Sorry to bitch, but you really *should* be embarassed:>
IMHO, the only way the idea of God can stand up to any rational scrutiny is to have it pared down to first principles, like a prime-mover of God or a necessary being, that is basically unprovable. Even science relies on the basis of first principles that we take for granted but are not provable (like induction, verifiability, falsifiability...). Consider Dawkins argument on why science is not a religion and you see him lapsing rather unscientifically on his conviction and intuition. The existence of God rests on a similar insight, something you either accept or you don't, based on your intuition. It is not that philosophers have not untangled it. It is fundamentally untangleable.
I am an atheist, but that does not mean I would not be able to appreciate the position of other point of views. So why don't I accept science, but not religion? My reason is simply Occam's razor: do not make unnecessary assumptions. Given all these transcendental insights, I must draw the line on what I will believe (induction) and what I will not believe (unicorns, God). Induction and science further my knowledge of the world and is required for the world to function. As for God, to quote Laplace, 'I have no need for that assumption'. The world can get by merrily without assuming Him or Her. But not gravity. And as for the retort that God created gravity, I've no need for that assumption either.:)
[ To cover bases: argument that God is the simplest assumption you can make about the world, is a misunderstanding of Occam's razor - which does not argue on simplicity, but on neccesity. Positing a God will still require the laws of gravity to be laid out. Is God a necessary being? The jury is out there! ]
Companies "couldn't say, 'Maybe I should just choose Linux because there were 52 Slashdot postings saying that Linux is better,' " he said, referring to a popular Web site for technology news and commentary. "That's really what drove a lot of the emphasis to say, 'Hey, fine, let's really give a set of facts.' "
Yeah, been using two of these 3ware cages (plus their Raid5 IDE controller) to RAID5 8 drives for months, quite a joy. You can pull out one of the drives mid-anything and watch the hot spare kick into gear.
Their online tech support is quite good too, replies within 1 working day.
If anything, I think this demonstrates that ghosts doesn't exist. It is just the mood and atmosphere of the place that makes it feels creepy and ghostlike. If ghosts really do exist then it would not be easily translatable by computer modelling - that is clearly ridiculous.
But then, when one talks about ghosts, a sense of the ridiculous is sometimes necessary...
I (*ahem*) did a lot of downloading in 2002 (out of US, no legal online services), but in 2003, I've already got most stuff I would want, so I stopped. Or mostly stopped:)
Yeah but think of how many seconds of how many million geeks, wasted, i tell you WASTED! If any of the editors have the foresight to spend say 60 seconds checking, then the precious seconds of all the poor geeks in Asia and Africa will not be lost, and to add ruthless insult to grieveous injury, even the cruel Earth has sought to deprived them of it since 1998. And I might add that if this continues, the terrorists would have already won. Spare a thought for the children.
Whenever Internet Explorer crashes, the Add-on Crash Detection program is launched. Add-on Crash Detection is an error analysis program that examines the state of the Iexplore.exe (Internet Explorer) process. It collects the list of dynamic link libraries (DLLs) that are loaded, and the value of the instruction pointer register (EIP) at the time of the crash. Add-on Crash Detection then attempts to find the DLL whose memory range the EIP lies within. This DLL is often the cause of the crash.
So instead of finding the source(s) of the crashes and fixing it, they have apparently given up on that, but now run an add-on to detect the crash and attempt to clean up after that. Way to go, M$!!;)
Not so easy -- both submissions for the same topics were from different posters.

I've been using a leading online banking portal in Malaysia to pay my bills and do other stuffs like 3rd party transfers.
One of the problems is that it does not show the running totals with the online statements - only the credits and debits and the most recent balance. I had a friend who had RM1000 (~USD263) 'disappear' undetected for some time from his online transfer - it was not until he updated his bankbook (that gives a running total) that he noticed something amiss. Apparently, after contacting the bank staff, it transpired that the system somehow registered a bill payment of RM100 but debited the account for RM1000. So this is a warning for all you *******2u.com users out there, let the user beware:)
The cost of R&D and design of the chip is probably a drop in the bucket compared to building a chip fabrication plant. And much of it the advances required to make a fast chips would be in fabrication technologies (materials, layering, etc.) that might has nothing to do with the chip design. And these technologies are likely to be patented.

Actually, is IBM confident of winning? Why wouldn't they idemnify their customers?
Just tinfoil hatting a bit, but could IBM use this opportunity to badly hurt HP, their nearest competitor?
We all know HP has idemnified their customers on linux. Now, if IBM were to strike a clandestine deal with SCO, and 'confessed' that they have (God forbid!) leaked code into Linux, then it will strengthen SCO's claim on the ownership of Linux. And HP will be forced to pay a very damaging liability... while IBM quietly settles it out of court. Even if IBM have to pay loads, it would be a big calculated whammy to HP....
With this game you can have oodles of fun raising your virtual daughter to be a princess (as no doubt your real darling daughter would eventually become), and along the way, you get great tips on how to improve her mood with cake, fish and S&M gear!
Actually, I know some VCD sellers in Kuala Lumpur. They are definitely in it for the money, and hardly anybody is drugged/coerced into it. It just simply pays lucratively. In one 'job package', they get paid RM2000 a basic month to package the VCDs during the day, and hawk it at night at stalls for extra commissions - enough to rake in up to about RM8000 a month - that's like USD2000 a month, a tidy sum for Malaysia (fresh software engineers earn about RM1800 a month).
Also, it is not a criminal offense in Malaysia unless pornography is involved. This is also complicated by the kinks in the local laws that require the copyright owner (or representative) to be present to identify the breach before the police can take action. At worst, the VCD/DVDs get consficated and the ringleaders don't usually hold it against the hawker to recoup the losses if that happens.
And putting Al-Kitty through said fan will result in Al-Gore.
Maybe they were fooled by all these talk about backdoors and BackOrifice.

But don't worry, I shall be praying for you as well!
At a tidy 9472 lines, I think the word 'summary' needs a new definition...

Don't worry, even if she discovers, it is a simple problem, easily solved with duct tape, a monkey and some explosives.
Did they miss out the 000,000 somewhere?
Probably was a typo.

What they meant was 'Incompetent'
It is an unfair comparison.
We got Bruce Willis.
That's absolutely correct.
Just as NSync is actually just an easily recognizable and appropriate name for their more accurate 'Can't Sing'.

Air Bag Blocks Spirit's Path. Hah.
We should rename Spirit to Dolly. Or maybe Pamela.
