They said decryption of 1080p is 7x slower than 640x480, not that decryption is slower than encryption. This makes sense as 1080p is approximately 7x more pixels than 640x480!
Errrrr the point of this software is to perform the handshake which authenticates it as a legitimate source or sink device. The master key also allows you to simply generate a NEW device key if the one you are using happens to get blacklisted by a firmware update.
The reason this is useful is not for bluray, it is for first-run broadcast content.
The screening process is on the binary, it is very hard to detect some crappy code that is intended to cause a buffer overflow.
That would still limit you to userland exploits, but it would definately allow some malicious code to be injected through a server request that could access phonebook/etc and then send it back home all without the naughty code ever existing in the application that was submitted to Apple. This code would be all but invisible since the timebomb and malicious payload are controlled remotely.
It would be nice for someone in the know to weigh in about apple's code execution security for appstore apps.
I've always wondered why deliberate exploits hadn't been included in seemingly safe app store apps that allowed access to forbidden api's and did naughty things always sorta amazed me.
I guess I wasn't the only person who thought of that.
You need to be a member before you can bound-sign (probably the wrong term, but its the one we used to use at Moto for a single device signing) your application builds but you can download the SDK and run it in the simulator without paying.
If you mined the moon and brought it back to earth i think you would find that our planet would be changed irreversibly. So many things on our planet rely on the gravitational pull from the moon that who knows what would happen.
And that was recently used by Senator Nick Xenophon to slander (because the allegations are unproven) scientology on the public record.
he also called for a royal commission into their tax-exempt status. He is basically a politician that doesn't care what anyone else thinks because he is an independant.
the 1024 is not a mistake!
1024 = 2^10
1024*1024 = 2^20
1024*1024*1024 = 2^30
and so on. These numbers are incredibly easy to deal with at a binary level and hence the reason for address busses and ram sizes to be limited by a power of 2. They are the closest you can get to the powers of 10 in a power of 2 hence the "kilo" "mega" etc prefixes being used for them - which are used for the exact same thing in base 10, specific powers of the base number.
64bit windows has deprecated a lot of the driver interfaces (out of necessity) so good luck getting your old hardware to work with 10 year old binary drivers.
Slot loading drives that accept 4cm discs have been around for a VERY long time. It is only the very cheap drive mechanisms that skimp on this stuff.
Also, how could you miss the fact that the wii supports gamecube games? If you load it up with no disc in it the "disc channel" shows an image of a big disc printed with "Wii" and a small disk printed with "Gamecube". When you put in a disk one of them vanishes and the game loading screen appears.
Not to mention the flap on the side with gamecube controller and memory card ports. I'm pretty sure they are labelled, if they aren't the machine definiately comes with a user manual.
The Wii is an excellent console for the support it has for N64 controllers, etc.
No sure what you mean here... it doesn't support n64 controllers (and i bet you wouldn't be able to find one with an acceptable deadzone on the joystick anymore)
Even though this is 6 years old somehow it slipped past me. That could have been around the time of my "take illicit drugs as often as possible" phase - aka: university
Once you started dumping the closed source code onto essential technology infrastructure and only basically released the code to governments, especially those governments that oppose the concept of a modern democracy,
Are you saying that microsoft gave the chinese government the source code to IE/Windows?
Over time this could add up and I would suspect that even reaching 1% contamination on our water from years of pollution from these many sources would reduce public water to unusable.
Please educate yourself about what this article is talking about. Tritium has a halflife of about 12.5 years - this means that effectively all of the tritium produced before you were born DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE (I am assuming you are at least in your 20's). Additionally the decay products are helium-3 which is lighter than air and can escape our atmosphere.
Explain to me how this will "build up" in our water supply? Considering the largest portion of this element is not just released into the water supply.
I would like to buy you a beer, but you are likely in another country so i'll do the next best thing and plead for the next person with mod points to mod you "+1 insightful"
also tritium is pretty harmless unless you eat a bunch of it at once
Not quite.

Netmeeting no longer exists. It has been replaced by "Windows Meeting Space"
The person who wrote it wrote it as part of a competition for the girl scouts. She is long dead and the scouts sold the rights long ago.
How do you use a hard drive for internet access?

I was always told that this was a propaganda campaign fed to ze germans to cover up the fact that we had developed radar to see at night.

assuming you aren't already an R&D firm that wants to collect patentable inventions....
google finance places "(subscription required)" in grey text next to paywall links, so I would think so.

woooosh
What about the APIs, people still aren't using WPF much (at all?) and that is microsoft's attempt to catch up to cocoa - which is now as old as OSX.
You mean like the network selector in the settings app provided with the phone?
It's kindof a signature of el reg to use the word boffin all the time. Personally I gave up reading it ages ago because it's writers are terrible.
It helps that they have some big corporate backing form the likes of Samsung
this is only half true.
