    Hit submit on accident (on phone there is no preview stage). Anyway, as I was saying: I don't think that moving the server code to the client side is a good idea because it'd take a lot of time (unless they had some really really insanely good software architects who double as oracles). In my opinion, that time would be better spent on the game itself. Then again, I think it'd be a good thing to at least visit the option of distributing server binaries for third party use

    Have you considered that someone has to be buying those items for cash? I can guarantee you that blizzard isn't buying them all up out of the goodness of their heart.

    Baby steps. Offering it to everyone is more expensive than offering just to those upgrading. While the OS itself is free, the CDs are not.

    On the upside, Linux is being given away by a government as the successor to Windows xp. On the downside, how many kids/grandkids are there that will know how to fix their parents/grandparents Linux machines? I guess you could say I'm cautiously optimistic

    emacs has M-. (find-tag, which is language agnostic afaik). I use it with python, JS and C.

    Part of Linux gaming's problem, which is mentioned in the story, is fragmentation. With a common platform (Steam) and industry connections (Valve nVidia/AMD) to help resolve both fragmentation and graphics card driver issues, those could swing in a very big way towards "It Just Works".

    That actually sounds like a really cool idea. I've friends that spend sunday at church, at the park and then playing board/card games with family. Similar result but different concept.

    Where I am, at least, there is no distinction between undergraduate- and graduate-level professorship. Each department has a system set up to determine who teaches what (and no doubt grad classes are preferred to undergrad ones), and it changes almost every semester in the CS/Math/Physics departments. However: why should we not train students from the beginning to be producers of knowledge and not merely consumers of it?

    Consider this: if your religion requires you to wear headgear always, then your profile will always match the photo iff they are allowed to wear the headgear in the photo. Of course, that is assuming that the individual in question isn't fibbing about their religion.
