So the global temperature in about 130 years rises 0.8C and now we all need to panic? Perhaps just the fact that the global population went from about 2 billion to 6 billion in that time period might have something to do with it? I think the real problem is not that we're burning fossil fuels, although that doesn't help and I think the earth ultimately can process it, it just that there's too many fucking people on the planet. The trillion $ question is what to do about that. Personally, assuming catastrophic climate change, for humans anyways, I think can be considered sort of a 'global reboot', or anti-virus, where the planet is just purging itself of malware. Part of me welcomes this as I think that society (globally) has fucked itself and needs to be rebuilt. Bring it on.
I'm not sure you get it. What I got from "a problem with the area between the ears" is that people that make dumb/stupid/misinformed need to live with the consequences of those consciously made decisions. I have no desire and/or moral obligation to help them out. I don't care, unless I'm directly impacted, and that will require a different course of action. Call me selfish if you want, I don't care, but I have never asked, nor do I expect others to bail me out from the poor choices that I have made.
Having said that, I don't mind helping those that physically/mentally/economically disadvantaged through no fault of their own.
To those people that want a handout, or through some strange sense of entitlement think that society at large owes them something....FUCK OFF
In BC where I live, we have recently had a carbon tax (applied also to natural gas used to heat homes and cook food) introduced, and the motherfuckers that introduced it just got re-elected. They claimed that it is revenue neutral, as there are accompanying income tax cuts. Well, you know what, it may revenue neutral, but it sure as shit isn't cost neutral. They did this under the premise that it would change peoples' behaviour due to this generations' bogeyman of climate change (yes, I'm a denier).
The problem is that the only thing that it changed is that took money away from my family to spend on other things in the economy. How dare they charge me a tax to heat my home, or to cook my food. As well, for work, I have a 120KM/day round trip commute, and my wife has a 60 KM/day round trip from our home. Both of our places of employment are not served by public transit. Please don't try and tell me to move closer to work, that just isn't doable around here (Vancouver and area had a ridiculous price boom over the last few years which made living in the suburbs the only reasonable option).
Just to add insult to injury, this carbon tax is also subject to our 5% GST (VAT). Yes, a tax on a tax. How beautiful.
To those people that support a punitive tax like a carbon tax, until there is a reasonable alternative such as transit that doesn't double or triple travel time, hydrogen fuel celled vehicles, or even the electric car (which I would buy), I have to give you a great big FUCK OFF, stay the fuck OUT of my pocket. Don't punish me so you can feel better.
Remember this, by definition, burning FINITE fossil fuels can only do FINITE damage.
I thought this sounded excellent, so I went to the site to check it out. Admittedly, I didn't read the whole thing, as I got immediatley really fucking pissed off. As YFC (your fucking comment) indicated, they will stream internet radio to a Linux computer, the key being INTERNET, so why the hell did I get a message stating that this is only available in the US... what is with Americanet???? As a courtesy, please let us know if there are artificial restrictions in place. This is even more infuriating as I live only 3 miles from the US border. Why the fuck do you people not want my money? ABSURD
That's because you're thinking of the FCC : Federal Communications Commission, when TFA actually speaks of the FTC: Federal Trade Commission. Acronym hell will do it to you every time
I really wonder where this guy and his cohorts get the idea that they are so fscking important. I mean really, they produce entertainment, with a bit of information thrown in for flavour.
The quote that really fries my onions is this one:
Glickman argued in his speech that neutrality regulations would bar the use of emerging tools that ISPs can use to prevent piracy
He's certainly making some wild assumptions, and stating them as fact. For example:
Thats it's the job/duty of ISPs to protect/monitor their content.
That the ISPs even care, except for where the media company and ISP are one in the same.
That internet users will accept a crippled, corporate internet. note: They may at first, but when Joe Sixpack and Sally Housecoat start seeing the negative effect, the shit will hit the fan.
That government (the U.S. in this case) wants and/or should protect their revenue stream. The piracy they are worried about is already illegal, and there is no reasonable expectation for anyone but themselves to protect their Jurassic business model.
Eventually being so clueless and Darwinism will take hold and these self-serving megalomaniacs will die a slow and painful (figuratively speaking) death. I mean how stupid, blind and closed-minded do you have to be not to see that these groups..the MAFIAA I mean are sitting on the forefront of a revolution. Give the people what they want, at a reasonable price, unencumbered by artificial restrictions, ie: DRM, Windows Only, self-destruct after 24 or 48 hours, and almost ZERO distribution costs to a global audience, and the world (literally) will beat a path to your door. You people could be having orgasms instead of heart attacks. Also remember, people will STILL buy the DVD. So some people may not pay, but you still get so much more exposure than you could ever hope to buy. It pains me that I have to share this planet with so many cranially challenged people.
Get a clue, or get the fuck out of the way. Sheesh
Could someone please explain to me, why Americans, Canadians, Brits and Australians are so afraid of a national ID card?
I'll tell you I'm afraid of this type of thing/attitude, from a Canadian perspective anyways.
For me, it doesn't come from fear or mistrust. It's simply a matter of freedom. The freedom to go about my daily life without having to explain my intentions or actions, or to prove that I'm allowed to be wherever I happen to be. Freedom of mobility is guaranteed under the Canadian Constitution.
I also happen to enjoy the freedom from arbitrary questioning/interrogation. The freedom from being monitored, from having my movements/purchases/actions tracked, perhaps to be used against me by someone in government I may have pissed off at some point in my life.
If I'm under arrest for suspicion of whatever, then fine. Under the current system I'll have my day in court. And up until now, I still trust my legal system (for the most part). Under a 'papers please' society, I wouldn't trust any member of law enforcement or the judiciary, I would be living in fear. Please try and remember that a government is supposed to be in place to serve the citizenry, not to monitor/track/control. People who through a trusted system of due process are deemed criminal should be monitored, but a free citizen should be under no such magnifying glass.
I truly fear the day that the freedoms I enjoy now, that my forefathers gave their lives for, will be a distant memory, that can only be discussed via 'approved' texts.
Even as a Canadian, I'm scared to go to the U.S. for what's it's become. I fear that 1 wrong move, or being in the wrong place at the wrong time could land me in world of pain or trouble.
Again, the reason I don't want any sort of national ID card is that I simply enjoy my freedom too much, and I will fight to the death to keep it.
P.S. although not perfect, I do feel that for the most part, at this moment I do live in the freest (sp?) country in the world
As I see it, anyone who has ever written something.. ie an essay, a love letter, a dmca takedown notice, or someone who has taken a video, or a photo is automatically a copyright owner. Given that, I guess we'll have to see how this goes because we should all have access to this "Take Down, Stay Down" crap... never mind the legitimacy of the complaint. Will there be some kind of registration for commercial copyright owners? This is how it looks to me:
We're all copyright owners of some sort, so we all should have access
No mechanism in place to determine the validity of the complaint, or even who the complainant is.
Fair Use out the window again
Too much possibility for white noise
Infringement isn't the same from country to country, what maybe illegal in country, may be legal in another
I guess the new ISP monitoring tools in place from an earlier article will be able to trackdown rogue posters.
I've really had enough of this crap. Commercial copyright owners will never learn that any exposure, that is non-commercial, or motivated by profit is good for your content. Serve it up and people will pay
(;|;)
I work from home and we home school the kids. One $40,000 1200-ft^2 house, one $16,000 truck,
I think you must live in the sticks, or in a very economically depressed area. Where I live, in the Vancouver, B.C. area, the average house price for 2000 sqft home on a 4000 sqft lot is $650,000.00 or higher. Between my wife and I, we make about $100,000/yr and couldn't qualify for a mortgage.
However I am glad you can live and work from the same place and then be better parents to your kids, which after all, that's what this thread is about.
Considering that Transgaming is a Canadian company, based out of Toronto.. I fail to see how the DMCA applies to them. It may apply to persons using such software in the U.S., but the rest of the world should be relatively safe until all politicians can be bought so cheaply (which may or may not happen).
On an old 486 I had a long time ago, the keyboard on it was flaky. Everytime the computer started to boot, it would give me the keyboard error POST with the message:
Press F2 for setup
Press F1 to resume
This of course yielded nothing as the keyboard wasn't accepting input.
After getting pissed off at this, out of sheer frustration I hit the keyboard, and it proceeded to function. From that point on, I realized that if I drop the kb from about 6 inches above the desk, it would begin to function. I started to use it as a security feature. No one believed me until they saw it for themselves, but this worked everytime, without fail for the life of computer. True Story!
the last comment on the page regarding the hack seems to come from someone we know.
WTF? I can't see anything on that shitty picture. It might be some not-Linux OS just as well. This is news? You are smart enough to port Linux but not smart enough to make a decent picture? This is fucking stupid, isn't it? Well, never mind, I think I'm gonna post it on my blog anyway, because it is related to Apple.

If this comment is real, it's really flippant and immature. How can your site link to another site that has one your comments on it that sounds as if it came from a retarded l33t h4X0R.

shhh... The RIAA doesn't like competition
you guys have waaaayyyy too much time on your hands.
Isn't there a network that needs your attention
Technically speed is a factor in 99.9% of all accidents. If the car was stationary, no accident would have happened.
That's why the last accident I was in was due to the guy behind me not paying attention and hitting me while I was stopped at a red light...sheesh
