Why is this not more common? Leaving the original post displayed, along with some information pointing out why it might not be true, sounds like a far better solution than simply censoring things.
US politicians: Let's please be like Singapore in this case rather than like China. Thanks.
This kind of thing is getting a little ridiculous. The pencils that sit on the desk at some military office somewhere are also involved with the end result. Should people object to making pencils that are bought by the military?
If these people have a problem with what the military does (and I'm not necessarily saying they shouldn't), perhaps they should get involved with politics instead. That's the right way to solve the problem, rather than hiding behind a letter and thinking that absolves them of something.
In general, I agree with you here. But, "because power-man is pulling the judge's string"-- maybe. There _was_ an actual threat made on Webster's wife. From TFA:
> The conversation was one of many calls that Thomas made to Webster or his wife, Lynda, in 2014, including one in which he promised a bullet “straight to the head” of Lynda.
Yeah, so let's all whine and bitch about it. That will definitely encourage companies to have open designs in the future.
Are you really so myopic that you can't see the bigger picture where an open source case design could be picked up by other manufacturers and become a better standard than the myriad crappy options we have today?
Is it expensive? Yes. With reason? I'd argue "also yes".
It's a good design, if you look closely. Just because you have money issues doesn't mean the rest of us can't enjoy a company doing nice things and making them available for others to build upon.
While this seems a little silly on the surface, I've noticed since moving to LA that almost nobody uses their turning signals here. It's gotten much worse over the past 7 years.
I'll take any additional help that the car can give these idiots, but I'm concerned that common adoption of features like this will make people even less likely to signal in advance of doing something stupid.
Yeah, but the government forces us all to subsidize the insurance industry (thanks to the Affordable Care Act), so should we be surprised that this happens? They have deep pockets thanks to all of us.
People around here aren't smart enough to read Caltech press releases anymore. They need simpler, more error-ridden summaries. The comments from the youtube peanut gallery on the video are even worse. I miss intelligent discourse.
This is fun, I guess. I've seen other posts on this blog as well. It's all moderately interesting, but with the best ones filtered to the top by a human, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose? Seems like wasted research dollars, to me.
You should look at the Garmin Fenix5. It's metal (with sapphire glass, if you desire), and the battery lasts about 3 weeks with normal use for me. The display is a reflective one, with a backlight as well. Some folks don't like this, but I love it. It's great in direct sunlight or the dark. Can you install any random app on it? no. But I never really saw the point of most watch apps anyway. I don't think the manufacturer is going away anytime soon.
This is the only "smartwatch" I've seen that I was even remotely interested in.
I'm not advocating hate speech, but why is there the need to censor "n****r" when "fucking asshole" was printed in plaintext?
These are all just words. It's no different than "chink" or "beaner". By censoring them we elevate their status and perpetuate the undesirable meaning behind them. It's just stupid.
Even slashdot required me to censor it to post. wtf.
No, and you know what, you're right. I've been avoiding buying a new one because (among other things) I had heard for a long time that Google was refusing to add such permission control. Apparently I missed the memo when it finally became available...
Yeah, these features are great and all, but I'm still waiting for fine-grained **permission control**. Why can I not block apps from doing particular things?
By all means, let's bitch about companies that are doing useful and interesting things instead of selling a phone with a fancier camera and slightly faster processor.
I would love a 4k HDR screen on my phone. HD resolution is not quite enough for Asian characters... 4k would make them legible even at small sizes. (and HDR is a good thing for obvious reasons)
apologies if this is a duplicate. browsing +3+ comments on my not-4k phone)
Dude, lay off the racism in your own statements. It's not helping anyone.
Also, not all white guys are racist, sexist homophobes.
Mod parent up insightful

Wrong ABC link (something about colorado river) in the summary.
See: https://abcnews.go.com/Technol...
It won't be obvious once the comments fill in some more... but I saw what you did here. Kudos. haha

So, what... we'll then be able to burn through our data caps in only a few minutes?

This was advocated by the _Independent Drivers Guild_, a local affiliate of the _Machinists Union_....
How does that even happen? Kind of a strange combination of interests, is it not?
Just what kind of land is it that generates sonic booms?

I'm sorry, I only saw the part where you were _complaining about something being open source_. (?!?)
Did you have something insightful to contribute here?

How about the kind that realize that "common sense" means something different to each person?
If that's supposed to be sarcasm, you completely lost me by the end.

The problem with this idea should be evident if you look around and see who remains having children if the smart folks stop.

iPhones have this. Shouldn't even be an issue.
