Windows 7 is superior to windows vista, so who cares if they release a new service pack for it... ever?
Most companies arent upgraded to vista anyway.
Windows 7 is a really nice OS. It just feels like a next gen OS. There are still a few bugs in it, but its still in beta, so thats to be expected. But, ive been using it as my main OS for about two months now and I've never been happier. I'm someone who switches OSs a LOT (usually once a week, I have a disk dedicated to alternate operating systems for dual booting), and i've never encountered one that just works the way that windows 7 just works.
I think that the assumption that the CLI is more intelligent than the GUI is rather presumptuous.
The ideal operating system is the one you dont have to know. Operating systems should be invisible, you should just be looking at what your working on, not the machine your working on it with.
This is why the command line is something that should be avoided whenever possible. Yes- it is quicker if you know the game and all the moves and can dictate them all at once - but most people dont - and most people do not want to have learn something to use it - and GUIs allow people to use something without taking classes on it or having someone guide them every step of the way.
Most people just drive cars, they dont need to know how to rebuild the transmission, they just need to get to work.
Yeah, exactly, people who prefer the terminal currently use ubuntu, but most people dont. I wonder how that matches the market share. SOmeone should take a poll.
Because you need to have knowledge of the terminal before you enter it or you wont know what to do. You cant just dive into it, where as with GUIs you can see what your options are.
I disagree. Most guides out there for ubuntu involve terminal commands. If you want to do something simple, like isntall wow, your gonna be inside of the terminal.
I think the major reason people dont use linux is because its still too complicated for most people, even with the efforts of canocial, theres still a lot of things you need to do inside of the terminal.
I dont think linux really needs any marketing.
The girls willingly sent those photos. Who is the victim here? Arent laws only there to prevent the abuses of rights? Its not like the 15 and 16 year old boys are creepy old balding men who told the girls to send them photos.
This is bullshit anyway- the phones were taken for a completley different reason- and whatever creepy old teacher took them didnt have a right to look through the memory card.
Its like arresting someone for j-walking, and then using that as a warrent to search their house for drugs. Thats now how warrents are supposed to be used.
If you see people coming out of someone's hosue with bags of weed- you get a warrent, and then you search the house for the weed, and if you find the weed while you're in there, then that person is in trouble, but thats the only thing you are allowed to look for, nothing else is useable in a court of law because the warrent was just for the weed.
These laws were set up that way to prevent exactly this sort of abuse of power. Bottom line is the phone charge and the child pornography charge are fucking unrelated.
Valve is the only game producer that has an effective, non annoying DRM system. I love steam, given the amount of times I format my drives per month, I can reinstall all my games by just queuing them with a high throughput download.
My point is that it isn't very exciting, its not a breakthrough, and that it isn't news. I would make the very same post on an article about someone installing a very efficient A/C system into their house.
But you knew that, and you're just trolling.
Software is real. The US exports more software than any other country on the planet.
The shitty econemy is completley unrelated. We're in tough economic times because:
A- Credit card companies / banks take control of the people's assets by making it very easy for them to spend more money than they have (the rich get richer)
B- The stock market is controlled by a collective of (rich) morons who buy and sell at the drop of a hat, based on no evidence. (money gets wasted on bullshit companies who dont use it for anything useful)
C- Because we have a wasteful government that will spend billions on wars. (if we spent as much on education as on warfare, we would be number 1 in the world, but we dont, so we're somewhere around number 40 in quality of education)
conclusion:
We raise a bunch of morons who go out and spend money they dont have on crap that does not make sense, which bankrupts them. Then, we send to to go kill people for no apparent reason.
flat income tax. only way to go. anyone have a clue about how much freaking money is wasted on calculating this crap? its in the hundreds of millions of dollars annually.
The biologist asked the chemist "How do you find the total charge of an ion?"
The chemist says
"Step #1 - decide if the cation is one showing variable charge. If so, a Roman numeral will be needed. In this case, iron does show variable charge."
"If a variable charge cation is involved, you must determine the Roman numeral involved. You do this by computing the total charge contributed by the polyatomic ion. In this case, NO3Â has a minus one charge and there are two of them, making a total of minus 2."
"Therefore, the iron must be a positive two, in order to keep the total charge of the formula at zero."
"Step #2 - determine the name of the polyatomic ion. Nitrate is the name of NO3Â."
"The correct name is iron(II) nitrate. The common name would be ferrous nitrate. "
The biologist says
"Oh. Thank you."
Damn it edison! You with your sorcery! Damn it wright brothers, you're going to get yourself killed! Damn it NASA, you will be over budget off schedule! (works for three).
The points between generations are sotware updates. Edge runs on the exact same pipes as GPRS, yet it goes several times faster. Software counts for a lot. With an integer move (2g-3g) theres actually new hardware out in the field.
I dont think the term generation is so rigid as to disallow partial generational transitions. Sure, thats not how it works with people, (well, arguably), but that does not mean it cant with cell towers.
You anal. hehe.
Shards? come on! start using real acronyms, science. MRO is better.

whoa!

welcome our new African American overlords.
Really not true. Most people never once use the command line in windows, 90% of people dont even know its there.
Because you need to have knowledge of the terminal before you enter it or you wont know what to do. You cant just dive into it, where as with GUIs you can see what your options are.

I'm a huge nerd- and I usually enjoy talks of nerdy things- but
English motherfuckers, do you speak it?

Is this really such a breakthrough? Any yokel with a router and a few boxes could set this up at home.

This just in: RIAA sues RIAA to death. RIAA expected to countersue.
Imagine a beow... oh... damn it, thats what they did.
