Well, making IE uninstallable would be a start. It may also help if they changed their activex object to just use the default browser in browser embedded applications (mmo launchers & such).
No body expects them to advertise for mozilla, and they shouldnt have to, but they fight the consumer tooth and nail to make IE integrated into EVERYTHING, and thats what we're fighting.
If i remember correctly, if you manage to uninstall IE manually (not easy) in XP- simply putting the windows cd in your drive will auto reinstall it.

If they can put in a "fix it" button, why cant they just put the fucking thing into the software, and make it fix its self, or better yet, not get broken? Its understandable a third party comes up with this sort of thing, because they dont have access to the windows core, but microsoft does, so they should just freaking fix the problems. I think its the same for their antivirus program.

If joe sixpack asked a linux expert for help, he would probably get laughed at for not knowing how to compile the source of the application he was trying to get to run.

  10. Wine is important on Apps That Officially Support Wine · · Score: 1

I know you Richard Stallman fans dont approve- but if wine were all encompassing- if it could run more or less anything that windows could- and if it were built into a distro- linux's market share would SKYROCKET. Not being able to run some windows apps is the reason 90% of windows users out there dont use linux.
If this were the case- it would allow a transition period for application developers to gradually switch over to coding for linux nativly, and eventually windows could be the one you'd need an emulator for.

Its funny how if microsoft releases an OS like vista- people bitch about how different it is from XP, and if they release an OS like windows 7- people bitch about how its the same as vista. Personally- I care more about the great new interface in windows 7 than shaving a split second off the time it takes to compile something. Sure, for things like servers, performance is what counts, but neither windows 7 nor windows vista are operating systems intended to run as servers. They're intended to be networked business workstations, or unnetworked home computers.
