Now, the UN/World Bank/etc. is funded by corporations. I said in a previous post that yes, these one world government orgs can rape and control a smaller country easier than the US, but I honestly think that when the time comes, our federal government will bow down and take it's marching orders from these people. Any one world government will not stand for any country to try to rule itself or have a say in it's own affairs. They know better.

BTW, since when was your government delegated by a democratic vote, anyway? In a true democracy, it doesn't cost upwards of $30 million to get elected...

We are not a true democracy, we are a Republic. And in a perfect world, Communism works too, but this world isn't perfect. Our system is very flawed, but I still feel it's better than having some group of corporations come and usurp our government to supplant one that will do their bidding.

At least in the US's admitedly imperfect system, we have SOME say.

And to a point, I still say the same thing about the federal government. It is way too big, and has lost touch with the people it is supposed to be the government for. I'd like to see the US just say "fuck off" to the UN, WTO, and any other pseudo-government that decides it knows how to run a country better than said country's government. None of these orgs have the US's best interest in mind, nor were they delegated by a democratic vote, so why the hell would we take these idiots seriously?

Let's face it, they pretty much own the US government and many others, why not band them all together and make the rules for them. Of course, this brave new world will be very benifical to the companies that own it.

And of course, we little "citizen units" will ha happy with the life assigned to us, or else they will find us (since we will be totally monitered, and you KNOW encryption will be outlawed) and subject us to the government approved punishment.

Sure, the vendors are going to be ticked when a bunch of people start asking for something they didn't plan on making and supporting, and for a while they may just brush requests off. However, current trends withstanding, large companies (software and hardware) will realize that they cannot blindly develop only for Windows anymore.
This COMDEX was probably an eye opener for many, and even though they were annoyed, the smarter ones are going to ponder the meaning of it all.

The danger of course, is that in our zeal to get more support for alternative OSes, we annoy a little too much. Polite requests will most likely generate the best results, while angry demands will simply make matters worse (this is nothing new, but it bears repeting)
*note* I'm not in any way saying the author of this story did this.

It's going to be a long road though, just as firmly entrenched as the MS monolopy is in everyone's mind, that is how hard we will have to work to them to open their eyes to the alternatives.
