I have to agree with everyone that thinks the Woz wouldn't be a good fit for the current "Apple Way", since the man that was so devoted to the "User Experience" turned into the "Big Brother" that he railed against at the start, and now has his Users doing the "Lock Step" in chains!
He does not care about privacy, but pissed of dudes with Voodoo-Dolls worry him.
That was the first thing that popped into my mind, when I read the article! I wonder if anyplace had a package deal, where both of their dolls came with the hatpins, pliers, matches and a little vise for their chests! 8-)
How do the regular Linux repositories Vet what is in them? I thought from the very beginning that Google was making a mistake in not going the Repository route with their Apps for Android! You might as well be downloading Windows programs off of unknown websites on the net as far as I can tell!
Not all but some books by Baen publishing come with a CD in a pocket on the inside of the back cover. This CD not only contains the book you bought or loaned from the library, but it also contains up to 50 other books and you are encouraged to copy and distribute it to your friends! These CDs are also available free on-line for download, be advised that this is a comparable offer to the "Friendly Neighborhood Pusher's" offer of "Try this, it's free", these books are addictive and they are "Giving" you the first couple of books in a series of maybe 12 or twenty in some cases! here's the url for the CDs http://baencd.freedoors.org/ enjoy!
Microsoft has deep pockets, and can hire Lobbyists by the score! This is never getting through either the Congress or the Senate. Microsoft has too much to lose if this was law, they'd have to start over from scratch and toss out all their legacy code!
How about an external Hard Drive Enclosure and a couple of 1 TB drives! All you have to do is swap them out after the backup is complete and keep one in a safety deposit box or GrandMa's house, or where ever you feel safe storing it, the other stays in the enclosure and does regular backups till time to swap them around again! The interval when you do this is up to you. Cheaper than a NAS or two dedicated external drives and only take a couple of minutes with a screw driver to swap the drives around!
No one seems to be commenting on how much desk real estate this thing is taking up! Where it is positioned in the pictures would seem to make typing a real pain! It's wider than my present mouse pad, and it is positioned dead center!
I believe the rationalization was that they needed another man in the cab in case the Engineer had a heart attack or otherwise was incapacitated while the train was in motion! So a Co-Pilot for the train! It was a safety consideration, though they don't call them deadman switches for nothing, but they have been known to not function as advertised in some cases!
Could this be preparation for a Future Cyberwar? Makes sense that if you are going to release really virulent Viruses, Trojans, Spyware and other Malware into the wild, then you might want to be using a different Operating System than the one you are targeting! Even if you are just going to go the Stuxnet route, you would still want to be sure that your electric grid didn't get destroyed along with your opponents!
You forgot to have him blowing a horn in addition to the red flag, which was the original ordinance. "the Locomotive Act, in 1865 requiring self-propelled vehicles on public roads in the United Kingdom be preceded by a man on foot waving a red flag and blowing a horn. This effectively killed road auto development in the UK for most of the rest of the 19th century", now that would make it really safe for everybody, though it would put a bit of a crimp in driving the Freeways and Interstate highways!
Make that noise ultrasonic so only the deer hear it! The Farmer with the the tractor and the Hay wagon is going to pull out in front of you no matter how much noise you are making!
Well the Vineyards in California seem to be doing quite well with mechanical grape harvesters! http://www.freshplaza.com/news_detail.asp?id=51233 Just do a search on Google and you will find many more articles like this one!
Your right the version for PC was pretty much Neutered after Apple Sued over the "Look and Feel" two fixed windows, no trash can and not much in the way of software for it! The version on the Atari ST was superior in every way! I still think that if not for Apple, Gem would have ended up as the default OS for PCs today!
Yep, to say nothing of the person that walks by the one on the column and scrapes themselves and tears a hole in that Armani suit jacket! I see lawsuits in that artists future! Many litigious people live in New York and I'm sure some of them read/. 8-) , though they are probably smart enough to know most artists, especially performance artists are poor as church mice!
Anybody else here old enough to remember the rotating Radius Monitor with full page display for the Macintosh line of computers! They were the hottest thing in Desktop Publishing there for a while! You could work on two pages side by side and then when you wanted to fine tune one page rotate the monitor to the vertical position and see one page full size and as it would be in print! A friend of mine with more money than me had one way back when and had a nice business going for a while!
So far have been lucky in that the only stuff I have gotten via torrent has been stuff that is out of print for ten years or longer and unavailable any other way! Really irks me when the first 5 books of a ten or fifteen book series can be had no other way!
I have one of the mentioned Rain Checks, but I am glad that it was mentioned that there will be no app store for this device! I had planned on using it to keep the Grand Children occupied while on a car trip! No app store equals no games or other diversions for this thing. That means that I have one rain check that will not be used! After checking out the videos at various places on the Web, it also seem that even if you could install the games on this thing they would be a PITA to play on that resistive touch screen. No thanks I don't need two aggravated children in the backseat on a long trip!
The only legitimate use I can see for this would be to replace an APP that has been remotely uninstalled as malware with a clean version of the same App! Anything else is, Yeah, Scary to contemplate!
Did anybody else besides me wonder what got knocked off the Maston rocket on the semi-hard landing? Just prior to the end of the Video you can see a circular piece of metal falling through the scene and making a Kaaching sound on hitting the landing pad!
I'm sure the Drogue chute also made sure that the vehicle did not take a nose down attitude, which would have been very hard to recover from! Their freefall time was much longer than the Maston flights!
Does this include the DRM keys to all the defunct DRM schemes that were supposed to let you access the songs, video and books that you had bought, but went out of business and took the keys to your data with them! Or is this just a copy of the DVD Rebook and other such information on the various and sundry formats!
