When you are trapped on a 12 hour flight with no power outlet to recharge your netbook, it isn't going to be much use after the first couple of hours! The Sony Reader can be used for about a week between recharges! I speak from experience, just having returned from Eastern Europe and spent 18 hours in transit! It probably saved almost the cost of the device in extra luggage and overweight fees!! I tend to read a lot!!!
Arthur C. Clarke also said "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". The difference is Science Fiction makes an attempt to explain how things work, at least in relation to the story!!
having SSH disabled is not an option if you have a Vonage router! I'm just hoping that they have a strong password set! Has anyone figured out how to tell if your router has been compromised?
Luckily, for those of us that don't like Icons there are the compact and list versions in the view menu! Ubuntu has a nice drop down menu with Names right alongside the Icons, so you can tell which program is which and don't have to clutter up the pretty desktop wallpaper with nasty Icons!!
Only problem with your rant is there are peopl like me that, just can not do CLI! I could not use an Atari 8-bit machine or a C-64, I got the Coleco Adam since it was all drop down menus on the function keys! I could not learn MSDOS, learning the commands and the necessary syntax was something I could wrap my head around, the Only way I could do CLI was cut and paste or carefully type off a printout! I got the Atari 1040 ST, because it had a menued drag and drop windowed environment! Finally was able to go to Windows with Win 95, but still had to beg for help on the net or BBS forums for anything CLI!
I have been using Ubuntu for about 3 years now, because it finally got to the point, that a guy with a poor memory for arbitrary commands and arcane syntax and poor touch typing skills, can now do most everything without having to resort to the command line! I will admit that it is easier to give someone instructions on how to apt-get something rather than tell them how to navigate the GUI in e-mail or on a forum! In that case thank God for cut and paste!!!!
Baen publishing does it just the way your local drug pusher does it! First they hook you with the free samples then they get you to buy the newest ones in the series, because you can't wait for them to be released free, then you start buying the ARC (Advanced Readers Copy) three months before they actually hit the printing presses! I am an addict! There I've said it!!
Some of us have trouble remembering a bunch of arbitrary commands and the complex syntax it takes to use them, also some of make mistakes when typing, which can lead to really bad trouble with CLI!! 8-)
Build structure of bricks, spray inside for airseal, then bury in ten meters of regolith! You are now un-baffled! Tunneling in loose material is very difficult, it has a tendency to collapse rather easily! trench, build, cover, seal air tight! Works better!!
Tell them to get Ubuntu 8.10 and install version 3.0 of OO.o!! On my 2.6 Ghz P4 with 1Gb of Ram it takes 3 seconds to get to the splash screen and another couple of seconds to open a new text document!
The only reason I could see to do this would be if this app was of some use in Android! The the switch to Java would at least make sense! But since this thing doesn't look like something you would want to use on a phone, smart or otherwise! It doesn't make sense, as it already runs under Window, Mac and Linux, why do they need it in Java??
Now don't get your kickers in a twist! This electromagnetic device that is attached to the fuel line of a diesel engine, if it uses energy will produce heat which in turn will lower the viscosity of the fuel in the line! So to make it more efficient just put on a real heater instead!!!
Not many people bringing up the main problem with this system!!! It doesn't see people!! This system has the same problem as automated warehouse systems. The robots do a good job as long as nothing goes wrong and no people have to enter the system to fix the problem! Effectively a death penalty for jaywalking!! I can also see a problem with the car that died in the driving lane being punted halfway to the city by this oblivious behemoth!!
They got on my bad side way back when they took DRI to court over the look and feel of GEM (Graphic Environment Manager), that is why You have Windows on the IBM type PC today instead of GEM and Bill Gates is a Billionaire!
SFBC is a good place to look for new books, but not necessarily to buy them!http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/ has a large list of books that can be searched in many ways, not just Science fiction though, they have everything! Baen.com gets top marks from me! Both printed and eBooks! Here's Ohio we have SearchOhio at the libraries websites through it you can reserve titles from many of the library systems in Ohio, which will be shipped to your local library for pickup! You can also use the ILL or interlibrary loan system, but that is like a message in a bottle, you never know when or if you are going to get the book you requested!!
I believe that selling a Fake as a Real Item would constitute fraud!! So still illegal!!

There are no Penguins in the Arctic! So you can now breathe easy again!

Nope! Tankers are still very expensive targets!! They don't have a robotic Abrams Tank yet!

More like "We are only now seeing the full effects of the Reagan Administration"
Hopefully he can close Guantanamo and send the prisoners to trial and get that behind us!
