I think you did not understand the point of the mcmonkey. The question is not whether the software is stable, the question is whether it will works: Many of the current applications will not work in the future because they can not communicate with authorization servers that will no longer exist, to stay in one example.

I was thinking of drivers from the same manufacturer to the same hardware unless you are thinking of putting in that signature the manufacturer and the driver version. And I noticed that Microsoft's idea would also work in the situation where you're replacing a manufacturer's driver with a newer version of the same manufacturer without having to depend on the manufacturer having informed the versions correctly. So with the same code you can satisfy both cases (manufacturer-manufacturer and manufacturer-microsoft)

  12. Re:Methinks silly hack... on Developer Explains Why All Windows Drivers Are Dated June 21, 2006 (microsoft.com) · · Score: 2

The problem arises when both drivers looks the best ones to use, assume equal signatures, certifications, etc. Compilation date is not a bad option to decide priority when you have many copys from the same driver from the same vendor for the same hardware and this vendor forgets to report correctly the version.

  13. Re:An insanely clever solution, Microsoft-style. on Developer Explains Why All Windows Drivers Are Dated June 21, 2006 (microsoft.com) · · Score: 1

It would not work very well. It would have the same original problem if two drivers had the same source and you would still have to define a criterion to decide which source would have priority (not always the manufacturer's drivers will automatically be better than Microsoft's, or both drivers are from different third parties and Windows does not know which one to give priority to).

You. From you I should expect ignorance all the time. If you record a sound using digital recording and storage, is pointless to make a LP using this digital source, you should use a CD to storing digital sound. Is the only thing I will say to you.

As I had to remind everyone else, if you put any digital processing in the process then it will not make sense to record an LP. To make sense all the recording process from the sound capture to the printing of the LP needs to be analog.

True, but you do not get it? I'm going to make it really clear: I'm NOT, I repeat, I not claiming that the LP's sound is "perfect". What I'm saying (and that seems to have caused nerve reactions by the answers I've read) is that the best way to store an analog sound still is an analog recording medium. The digital medium is good but it is still a coding of an analog signal where you have no way to avoid loss of information. The LP recording may even distort the original sound a bit (if it distorts too much then your recording equipment is really bad and should be discarded), but it does not lose information doing that.

  22. Re: Have they added DRM yet? on Vinyl Record Production Gets a Much-Needed Tech Upgrade (engadget.com) · · Score: 1

If you put any digital conversion between recording the sound and printing the LP then it will not make sense to create the LP. I suppose the manufacturer of the LPs took that into account, obviously.

Well, even the best DAC available only can create a approximation from the original analog sound signal, while vinyl is an analog recording by nature.

Closer to a good idea provided it doesn't interfere with their intended use. A better idea would be for the agent to ask how the person knows you and what the money is for, but then the last time I sent a WU transfer (friend I met while travelling in Europe, met through someone I met who works at the Red Cross needed emergency money) The agent at the local store was just a cashier who had access to the WU terminal and had no training whatsoever.

Uh... You still have the basic problem of WU: How you will find the recipient if the transaction was a fraud? Anyone can get the money if he or she has the transaction identifier and the WU does not even require an identification (driver licence, social security number, etc) of who appears to receive the money. I described the bank as a better idea here because usually a person to be able to have a bank account needs to be found, he or she needs an address.

  25. Re:Close all WU branches in Nigeria on Western Union Pays $586M Fine Over Wire Fraud Charges (reuters.com) · · Score: 1

I think you did not get the idea... Nigeria is usually where scammers are in person, if there are no WU agencies in Nigeria they would have to go to other countries to collect the money and so the scam would be more expensive or even impossible. To legitimate money transfers one should use common banks (I know, it's a pain in the ass to use them but it's a lot more secure than using the WU).

All said, you also should not take my suggestion to the letter because I wrote it with a touch of humor in the middle. If you would prefer a literal suggestion then my suggestion would be that no one should be allowed to send money to Nigeria (or any other country perhaps) without having a sender and a recipient duly identified that can be held liable for fraud if they happen.
