The Oscar is mere self-promotion in a "voting" as impartial as the elections in Florida. I've had enough of seeing movies that deserve to go to the garbage winning an Oscar for having paid well for the "judges" or fall into the good graces of "film critics", while the audience hated it. And those who matter most: The public that pays for movie tickets and rentals of DVDs or professional critics?
The Oscar is a circus for vanity, nothing more than that.
1) Sell cheap for a large number of users rather than selling expensive for a small group of users. And the first option have the bonus of possibly make your software in a reference, this is priceless.
2) Do not use DRM, period. Is only wasted money.
3) Make it easy to pay, and remember that you are now global with the Internet. You may have many more users overseas than in your country of origin. Paypal is a good option now, as an example.
4) Many users are not professionals and just want an efficient way to do a simple edit in the video (eg, remove advertisements from a TV capture), make a version of your software that makes it and sell cheap, leaving the more complete version - and more expensive - for those who really need it.

Nobody takes seriously ads because 95% of the products advertised this way are junk or are advertised in such a way that comes to undermine the operation of your computer (flash ads on loop, for example). Why, for all that is holy, I would accept an ad "scan your PC NOW!!!"?
They want people to accept ads? Stop advertise malwares, scams, junkware and maybe people will begin to accept ads.

I do not understand your apparent anger against RAID0... For me it works very well, why it annoys you? I have a third hard drive for backup, the HDDs used in RAID are reliable (not SSDs, still too experimental), and according to reports from the S.M.A.R.T. they still have long useful life ahead. Oh, the boot disk is in a SSD (yep, four drives rig, the RAID0 is a gaming/general data drive), but I do not mind having to reinstall if there is a problem here, since it is still experimental and therefore I do not put anything critical on the SSD.
In short: RAID0 increases the chances of data loss? Yep. But is not the panacea that everyone writes as if he was going to explode when they were powered on, or kill your cat.
I use two Samsung HDs on RAID0 for more than four years, no errors even since. My two cents to "ZOMG, RAID0 will destroy all your data and kill your cat!!!!"
Not exactly. Send an e-mail is not free, you need to pay an internet connection to do that. Wire-transfer is more or less the same thing, but you pay for sending service instead of paying to access the transmission medium.
In an ideal world you would be correct, but in the real world lawyers give so many reasons to be hated that it is very, very difficult to speak well of them.
