And burn a bowl of incense in the face. Good God. How can you think of spending a moment in a room full of skunks, stoned or not? You would have to give me something stronger. Something that would knock out my sense of smell. I wonder where I can find something like that?
I think a room full of skunks would have that effect real quick.
Pretend for a second that I don't know anything about Acid 3. Pretend I'm just a regular Joe-sixpack web user.
Hi Joe, welcome to Slashdot. Here, we talk about computers, software, and other sorts of technology. Sometimes things may be explained from a professional's viewpoint, and some things may not be explained at all. If you need more information on something you're unsure about, there's a website out there called Google. You can get there by opening your AOL and typing in keyword "google". In there will be a little bar where you can enter text. If you type in "Acid3", Google will show you a whole bunch of sites that will tell you all about it.
The EyeToy has a mic. It actually sounds pretty good on the PC as long as there isn't anything happening in the background, because this thing picks up EVERYTHING.
Even the Eye Toy had 3D recognition.
No it doesn't. It detects motion. That's why you have to wave your hand over on-screen buttons for several seconds to select them... because it needs to make sure that's the one you're trying to select. It really was a shitty implementation, but I'm not really sure if the PS2 could've handled much more than that.
The only way the process could be automated is if you designed a mechanical robot to press keys on the keyboard for you.
Or if the guide software edited the configuration for you, like it's supposed to. That would be automatic editing, would it not? Last I checked "mechanical" was nowhere in the definition of "automatic", therefore it can, by definition, be carried out by software.
For example, a $150,000 plane usually can carry less than a $15,000 pickup truck.
That's because any plane you find for $150,000 isn't designed to carry more than a couple people and their luggage. A cargo plane costs a few million dollars, but it can carry a few $15,000 pickups and their cargo. But anyway, this article isn't about money, it's about emissions. I can assure you that a plane will use far less fuel to carry a full load 2000 miles than a pickup would.
And as for people comparing planes to cargo trains... that's also not what the article is about. Of course a cargo train can carry more a longer distance for lower cost..... and that's why they're used far more often for everything from chemicals to materials to packages than planes. They're talking about passengers. For passengers, it's more environmentally-friendly to ride a plane than a train for distances more than a few hundred miles.
WHEREAS, Adolf Hitler and others have exploited the racist views of Darwin and those he influenced, such as German zoologist Ernst Haekel, to justify the annihilation of millions of purportedly racially inferior individuals.
Wow I can just see Darwin up there in heaven cursing those bastards that would cast him with the likes of Hitler.
Christ, where do you live? Washington State gets by fine with 8.25% and no income tax. (I'm not sure how our property taxes compare to other states.)
Wow, here in Marin County, CA, we're paying 9% sales tax, 9.3% income tax ($43,000-$1million/year), and I think our property tax is a little higher than most places... but I can't seem to find the exact rates online.
Seems like Obama's blatantly retarded cabinet appointments weren't so retarded after all. Hopefully he knew that these people would go against the industry that they have been representing, and hopefully he didn't appoint them because he thought they would help to bring along the policies that the industry has been fighting for. I'm really interested to see what the Administration does in the future, though... hopefully they can make a trend out of this.
You seem to think I ride with the crowd that is complaining that IE is still there when you remove it. Sorry that I didn't properly express my opinion on the matter. My take is that you can't remove IE from Windows because there is so much that relies on the same libraries that IE relies on, and that Internet Explorer in itself is primarily just a shell for those libraries that happens to surf the internet instead of your filesystem. Therefore, the "removal" of Internet Explorer isn't actually a removal of Internet Explorer, because complete removal of all things Internet Explorer would break basic functionality of the Operating System without some sort of replacement of those libraries (like how Runaway1956 talked about third-party shells).
He never said there was a chance in hell of it happening. He just said it SHOULD happen.
Not everything that is, should be. Not everything that should be, is.
My comment was more regarding the fact that his suggestion is completely retarded, would never happen, and should never happen, because it would be even more of a detriment to maintaining a free market than would be letting Microsoft continue doing what they're doing exactly how they're doing it.
No. IE is not Explorer. I have an Nlited Windows XP, from which IE has been completely removed. Explorer works just fine without IE.
I'm facepalming hard. Internet Explorer uses the same exact libraries as Explorer, and for you to say anything otherwise as though you know what you are talking about simply makes you an imbecil. IE being "removed completely" simply means that everything having solely to do with IE was removed... and maybe... have the libraries that were shared between iexplore.exe and explorer.exe be renamed so the EU thinks they were removed.
This suggestion doesn't, in fact, go nearly far enough. Microsoft should be forced to give a choice of different browsers but IE should not be in the list. IE should only be available as a paid choice on physical CDs until such time as it's market share is less than any of the other major browsers. Offering IE online, pre-installed or bundled should be illegal.
I hope you're joking... because if you're not, it may be a good idea for you to have a doctor evaluate your mental health.
Part of "insanely great" is "don't go cool too early". Short of any real competition, Apple doesn't want to release functionality until they've got usability nailed.
Actually, they don't want to release any functionality until the marketing department says it's alright. I hate Apple, but I have to hand it to them... they have a fantastic marketing strategy, and if you haven't noticed all the tricks they pull with their products then you are exactly the person they're after.
How about "Play games on your xbox. Don't buy or install the suckfest that is Vista or 7. Don't have to reregister with MS every time you change your motherboard."
How about "Console gaming sucks, and I've spent $2500 on this computer. Vista doesn't suck anymore and 7 is even better than XP. Who cares if you have to reauthenticate, it's not like you have to actually do anything, if your SKU is valid it will work automatically."
And burn a bowl of incense in the face. Good God. How can you think of spending a moment in a room full of skunks, stoned or not? You would have to give me something stronger. Something that would knock out my sense of smell. I wonder where I can find something like that?
I think a room full of skunks would have that effect real quick.
Is the reverse possible? I.e. explicit content only??!! :)
How the hell is this modded insightful when it's blatantly obvious that he didn't read the summary?? This whole thing IS about explicit content only.
Pretend for a second that I don't know anything about Acid 3. Pretend I'm just a regular Joe-sixpack web user.

Once again, welcome to Slashdot. Have fun!
But it is basically an Eye Toy with a mic.
The EyeToy has a mic. It actually sounds pretty good on the PC as long as there isn't anything happening in the background, because this thing picks up EVERYTHING.

Oh please, Project Natal didn't take off years ago when it was called EyeToy, what makes you think it'll take off now ?
Because the EyeToy was shit. Natal actually looks extremely promising. (FYI, this is coming from somebody who usually prefers Sony over Microsoft).

Guess the trick is to find a way to make them want to disinfect their computers.
"Every time you don't update your antivirus, a kitten is struck by lightning."
If the electricity comes from sources such as hydro power, I have a hard time believing that planes are still more environmentally friendly.
Too bad there aren't any electric train lines that cover the kinds of distances that planes and diesel trains do.
For example, a $150,000 plane usually can carry less than a $15,000 pickup truck.

Yeah, but their balance sheet is probably looking more and more like mine every day.
Wow, you must be a BILLIONAIRE!!
banning sales != banning development.
True, but banning development == banning development. FTFS:

[...]ask the Bundestag (Germany's equivalent of Parliament) to ban the production and distribution of violent video games.
Since we're debating semantics, let me fix his comment so you're happy...
Valve is a publisher.
Would be nice to see some responses from states filled with sane people.
You won't find any of that on Slashdot. How much did you pay for your UID?
Christ, where do you live? Washington State gets by fine with 8.25% and no income tax. (I'm not sure how our property taxes compare to other states.)

Let me kiss your wife. It's a simple, harmless, and costless request.
Sure why not? Hell, we can probably invite the Stevensons from down the street too!

You forgot a few:
Linux vs. *BSD VI vs. EMACS Gnome vs KDE
etc.
Well Gnome and KDE both suck, so that argument is irrelevant.
