This has to be the biggest problem. They have great infastructure, but no MMORPG. No Warcraft, no FF.., no Evercrack. This is a major slap in the face. Don't get me wrong Halo 2 ROCKS, but come on Microsoft. Wake up!
Oh, by the way, Virtual ON on Xbox live would also Rock! enough Said!
The Test to any system is can you "realistically" convert superheroes to the system. We had an interesting experiment to see if Gurps could be used to convert Marvel and D.C. characters for battle. Who would win:
Superman versus the Hulk. Converting this to Gurps was interesting. Using the comic meeting of the two as the base we had to include the disadvantages. In a quick battle Superman wins with his intelligence, but the NOTHING can stop the savage Hulk. The disadvantages included in the Gurps Supers helped big time.
Batman versus Daredevil The Batman wins. He plays dirty. Discovers that Daredevil is a one trick pony. But the setting was a big x factor. Don't run into the devil in Hell's kitchen.
Unless you are going to build your own hack it seems that for the less technically inclined of us cash will be king. To get in the game the article suggests the two best options. Any feedback on which one gives the most bang for the buck?

Interesting Idea!
I see this as in ideal area of genetic programming. Imagine that the person transcribes, by hand, a few random places on the tape. Maybe a total of 4 random places from the recorded material, at about a sentences each spot (or a paragraph). The program then generates an initial population of genetic programs who will breed based the fitness of your initial transcription. After a few rounds of this you take the best-fit individuals or something like that. If the speaker is the same on the audio then this may work. This may have problems with multiple speakers. I would imagine if you scale this up and use all of recorded English speech (court transcripts) with audio of the same transcripts and some lisp genetic programming the programs would localize to the English dialect in general. Granted this would take a lot of training and weeding out of bad populations. Interesting idea. See the Wired article: http://hotwired.wired.com/collections/genetics/5.0 5_symbolic_ai_pr.html for some interesting ideas of how this could work. L.A. on the East Coast
With the success of SW:KOTOR and a real need for RPG for the box, Square is just shooting themselves in the foot for not bringing these games to xbox. Look at the cash cow Rockstar will create with the GTA/Vice package on the xbox. If I remember back in the day people said that GTA would never be on the xbox. It is now and it look great! Now if they could just port MANHUNT quickly, life would be good.
I'm in an interesting dilemma. I just finished my master degree and I am looking at a PHD/ Doctoral program. I have work/time constraints so full time PHD work is not an option. Looking at online distance self paced education has large benefits. I received the brochure from Kennedy-Western University and Cappella University. I concerned that they are just diploma mills yet from all I have seen they are legit. While the cost is pretty steep, the convenience I receive from going this route makes it worth it. Any graduates from these institutions have feedback that my sway my decision?
O.K. CGI, I expected more, I'm sitting there watching the Agent Smith / Neo fight. -People around me are in loving the fight scene. -I am enjoying it UNTIL the entire scene is CGI. It not just evident, but badly evident. My thought are: -Darken the CGI black. The real Neo had on dark black, DARK black. You could barely see the folds and ripples in the black jacket. In the CGI portion the fabric takes on a grey tone and the folds and ripples are evident. The CGI color just did not match the real scene. Just darken the CGI black more. That's quality control people. -Cartoon like in Structure: The all CGI charecters are not to true propertions of the charecters. It easy to tell, but for the quick cuts. Two prime examples: The NEO "around the pole scene kicking agents scene", and "the agent jumping on car smashing hood" scene. Cartoon CGI prime examples. -Physics of CGI. It just didn't cut it. Rewatch Neo hitting some CGI charecters with is Pole(no pun inten..) there paths are strange. It's noticable.
In closing: I don't think Matrix:reloded sets the bar on CGI realism. Flight of the Osirus did a better job(same people), Mixing real and CGI was done better in SW:AOTC. LOTR set the bar and it's still there. Matrix: Reloaded CGI seemed rushed and could have been better.
This type of problem will continue until the healthcare system adapts to common standards, protocols and SOFTWARE. The HIPPA regulations have started to put fear into the hearts of hospitals and software companies who have to be up to standard by next year. Millions of dollars are at stake yet some companies are still clueless. If you doubt this statement ask an IT person at the hospital how prepared are they for the upcoming HIPPA implantation. It will enlighten you. Tools that are used by the Hospitals are another issue. Many hospitals are still using proprietary systems developed by vendors, which are thinking of there own interest. Unlike the internet (apache), there are very little open source Healthcare information tools that a large hospital system can use that are HIPPA compliant. With all the great open source tools (java, gcc, KDE,....) it is surprising that a sourceforge project does not exist that would allow a hospital with minimal hardware to run a Java based HIS or something they can run own their existing legacy hardware. This is the killer application. I would tell Beth Israel Deacnoness to fire their software group. Hire opensource team and start the development of an opensource project to do the job that there current system is not. The savings will be great, but the contribution to healthcare will be legendary.
At one time I thought Micro$oft was going to create a floating City. One they could have complete windows control. Was there not a movement a few years ago to to build a city in the Gulf of Mexico?
What every user wants is the ability to control the computer easily with voice only. Imagine yourself walking in the door clicking on you computer. While making your sandwich you tell the computer,"Go to slashdot. Open the first story having to do with micro$oft and set moderation level at -1. Also in another window open my hotmail account." Now granted, we can do this today but not without a lot of pain. The first program that decreases the pain that will be the killer app. Think AOL for online access. Think Windows for OS. Amazon for online Shopping. This killer app will make interacting with the computer effortless and seamless. The Killer app is the computer that controls the ships on Star Trek. The question is will microsoft research group create it before the linix open source group. LA.
I think the advancements in all these fields will produce some interesting machines. Imagine a Genetic algorithm on a Qcomputer. The GA would be coded to produce the most efficent design of a craft to get into earth orbit. Hard contraints would be: Leave the crew alive, do not destroy earth in the process, etc.....
What we need is a Highway to mars.

We need a way let computers navigate the ships to mars and take all the damn human error out. A few ping's Mars should help things.

Use this method to see the side of a planet that we have never seen by switching places with the Sun(projector)? Nice!
That would be cool and be an x-box live game. Very cool. I can only dream.

I know of two groups using GA to produce amazing Fractal compression. Anyone know how we can get this GPL'd.
