You already have (in most smartphones) an operating system for the radio and one for the system the user sees.
I mean, is it necessary to run Android and Windows Mobile at the same time, or at all, on the same phone?
People might argue DEVELOPERS, DEVELOPERS, DEVELOPERS, but I argue right back, isn't it more intelligent to design software FOR AND ON the device your designing it for? I mean, I'm all for productivity, but it seems like you end up with better software beta testing it on the actual product, and not a simulator.
So seriously, what is the actual, real-world use for VMWare on a cellphone? Just the coolness, or does it actually have a mission critical place?
Although I don't think that was his intent, all too many people DO think that way.
Hence they end up having a subpar system because of subpar hardware (subjectively).
It would be like trying to install Win98 or ME on a 386DX40 with 8 meg of RAM. 5 to 7 years before 98 was released, that was a decent system. BUT, we where all running pentium class machines by then (even the 486DX2 systems had spec's similiar to the pentium 66+ at LEAST.. And when we figured out that bus speed made the BIGGEST difference, our 5x86 systems with an 86 mhz bus speed where as fast or faster than a typical Intel Pentium, and we didn't have math problems:) ).
So his point is valid, and one I've been making for about a year. Vista works fine, with vista qualified hardware. The minimum MS guidelines have always been a little lean on performance, but if you go out and purchase a laptop with Vista on it, then format it WITHOUT all the bloatware, it's a fast, lean, working system.
I know, I did it.
--Toll_Free Running X64 and X32 Vista, and liking it. Just as fast as my Ubuntu system
Or maybe it's that Office didn't get any faster (real probability, since he ran the same version on both OPERATING systems) and his graphics adapter (which would interface with either DX or GL, neither of which was updated in either OPERATING system release).
IOW, this guy is an idiot, who thinks applications are the operating system.
No shit, sherlock. Opera didn't get any faster on it, neither did Calc.exe
And calling someone in politics for what, 10 years as qualified to lead the country, as well as taking the side of Biden, mr. technology himself, only proves my opinion.
Most of the people VOTING for Obama probably grew up around the same time his political carreer did.
He kind of believed that the Jews where the ones giving out only the information they thought was newsworthy.
That's the problem with freedummy of the press. You get to hear what THE PRESS wants you to.
We voted for the Obamanation, we better be ready for what he is about to unfurl.
As to your comment about voters, that isn't an "anymore", that's an "ever". Why do you think they set up the electoral college a couple hunnerd years ago... Because the forfathers KNEW how stupid the American Populace REALLY is, and how STUPID people can be swayed to think whatever they want.
Yeah, your kidding, right? Yahoo and a couple others had already reported this, BEFORE THE ELECTION.
Now that the liberal biased media has their candidate in office, we will see EXACTLY what the uninformed buzzword lovers enacted.
This is the problem with electing someone who screams "change" all the time. It is a great word, but nobody told us what it means.
What it meant was, "I'll say whatever I need to get elected and go down in history, but the only change your really going to NOTICE is the color of my skin, because all us politicians are pretty much the same".
Obama ran a much better bullshitathon. Now we are in for a bumby ride, here in the Obamanation.
I'm not sure what utilities are available on *nix, but winsfv has always worked for me.
Generates a checksum file by file, and then dumps the checksums into a file. Simple, fast, and works great.
I know there are.sfv shell scripts all over the web, as I used to use them on my ftp sites, to verify the integrity of files transferred against the list of checksums. Files didn't match checksum, files automagically deleted.
When making up your disk images, you could.sfv checksum the entire dir structure, and have a file in the root of the cd with the sfv checksums. Then when you want to verify, just run the sfv check against the file in question and compare it to the original.
Works great to ensure nobody's changed anything, too. One bit screws up the checksum.
Only a french asshole would love to enforce his will upon others.
Funny, though, when you really think about it. One of the most weak suck countries in the world having 100 percent asshole share.
Must be the germans invading it. Twice. I guess I might be a bit pissed off as well.
But seriously, Frenchy, what gives you the right to enforce your will upon others. I seem to remember a little over half a decade ago, your people bitching about the Germans doing the same thing.
So, basically, asshole number one decides he doesn't want the TV in a public place, and turns on his jamming device.
What a great way to enforce your want and will upon others.
Also, what a great way to get fined. Jamming devices are illegal in this country.
I HATE people that come up with this shit.. Although maybe if he did just a channel 5 one, I'd be OK with that... Just something to jam the channels that show Maury, Montel and Jerry Springer.:)
But seriously, this is a device causing other people to not be able to watch what they want?
There are also bars that have NO televisions in them.
It's called freedom of choice and expression. Two of the things the American settlers left the old world for.
We like having freedom of choice here. And our freedom of expression.
The cool thing was, you could have gone to another bar, one you liked, instead of being in the "sports bar" style place.
That's one of the things that makes our country a great place to live. We can actually make choices, and people with the drive to prosper can keep making (and I agree with you, I HATE the sports bar mentality, the TVs, etc) places the people want to go to.
Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean it doesn't have it's place.
"You'd almost think some sort of certification should be placed on movies and games to give an idea of what is appropriate (Harry Potter - both sexes and aged 7 to adult, HSM - girls between the ages of 7 and 11)."
Gee, like the ratings systems everyone already bitches about?
Yes, violent cartoons and video games cause aggression.
Let your kids watch He Man, Popeye, Halo, etc. Games or videos. Children mimic what they see. Bottom line.
It's like, DUH. If a child grows up watching his Daddy beat his Mommy because she talks to much, said child will grow up to beat his wife for talking too much, as well.
Little common sense here. Children are a product of their environment. Give them a loving environment, and they grow up loving (in general, and the facts are there to back this up, and any parent worth a shit can attest to this)... Let them grow up with parents that hate, don't give a shit, or whatever, and that's the way the kids will grow up.
I let my 3 and 4 yr old watch Kung Foo Panda a couple months ago. THAT was a great movie. And my kids, for about a week, thought Kung Foo on each other was A-OK.
Maybe they can't find the Linux versions, since XP is outselling them. Hence, they will ship more of what is selling.
The fact that they are dropping the linux distro version is de facto evidence that they are not selling as well.
Supply and demand. If the demand was so high for the linux versions, they would be SHIPPING more. That's the bottom line, whatever sells, is what the companies ship. It's not like Asus doesn't know how to market a computer, build a computer, or ship computers, they are one of the largest OEM's out there. Anyone second guessing them needs a shot in the arm of some serious reality.
Sucks, to be sure. I like Linux. BUT, like most people, I tire of the endless "getting something to work". I also tire of the constant "That's not what I've seen with (insert MS OS here)....". XP / Vista works. Just use some decent hardware, stop trying to get your bleeding edge graphics card or 1999 ATI PCI card to work, and you won't have NEAR the problems.
And for the "rebooting" necessary when installing MS OS's, get over it. It really causes problems because you have to reboot 2 or 3 times when installing?
And lastly, WTF is this "Windows sucks, because after I install everything I want, it takes FOREVER to boot up"... That's the fault of the software, not the underlying OS.
Ubuntu takes JUST as long as XP on identical hardware, after installing only a few programs on either one. Basic, simple, fact of life. Just because you can fork a process to background when booting up (I ran across forking the networking to background on Ubuntu to speed up boot process..... Sure, it works, and also requires me to wait up to 30 seconds after the login screen appears to have NETWORKING... Hence, it takes another 30 seconds AFTER the login screen appears to be an actual capable o/s (I use it for file serving as well as a basic living room PC)).
Cellular phones are provided to the employees free of charge, the first time. If warantee covers any problems, your good. If the warantee or insurance deems it a problem on YOUR side (dumping it in water, etc), YOU replace the phone, at your cost.
Seems like a no brainer to me.
Barcode equipment, OTOH, is a company expense, regardless. And because of that, typical 20.00/hour employees can't be bothered to take care of it. HOWEVER, as soon as it becomes part of their expenses after the initial "freebie", then employees tend to take better care of things.
I've seen personal laptops sales figures had that where taken EXTREMELY well care of. Those same guys COMPANY laptops typically had scratches, missing keys, etc. after so many hours of (ab)use.
Human nature, in a manufacturing environment. You don't have tech geeks doing barcode scanning of equipment leaving the floor (if you do, you are soon out of business, cuz China can do it WAY cheaper). Nor do you have idiots that can hardly handle a barcode scanner building out your infrastructure (something the Chinese can't do... until they perfect teleportation.)
The solution to America's HUGE healthcare problem is the people. Candidates can't instill common sense in human beings.. Not by far.
Until idiots stop eating at McDonalds two to three times a day, until stupid people stop believing in a "fourth meal", etc., there will be no healthcare, since healthCARE actually requires CARING about onesself.
Not to mention, NOBODY can help someone take responsibility for their own actions. Something which the mass of Americans have NOT been doing since we have started the slope towards becoming third world.
Nothing is going to change until the general populace stops asking themselves "where is my bailout for my mortgage" (that I couldn't afford in the first place, and was too (niave / stupid / disconcerned) to be bothered with reading the contract before hand. "where is my healthcare", while they sit on their asses doing little to nothing.
The people bitching about not having healthcare are (for the most part, majority rules) the same ones sitting at home doing NOTHING. ALbeit, there are a LOT of people sitting at work with no bennies, either, but the non-working FAR outshine those working.
Again, nobody that's running for president can fix the current quagmire we are in until the general population can figure out they are just as responsible (actually moreso) as the people elected.
What's the point?
