The Intellimouse isn't all that inovative. The only difference between it and older optical mice is that the camera is better and doesn't require a special pattern to read, which I put down to simple advances in camera technology.
This describes such mice.
Is the idea to create webpages that break in older browsers which then do not display the "error" message becuase it is a non-JavaScript browser (or one which has JS disabled becuase the technology isn't very nice anyway)?
I think one of the cubes should be a mission control cube, while the others maneuver based on it's commands, and then all of them make a really bright flash in the sky that says "COKE ADDS LIFE"
Make sure only good translators get to see it. Possibly just an Urban Legend I remember one translation to Chinese came out as "Class A drugs will bring your ancestors back from the dead."
Slashdot is not freshmeat. If slashdot attempted to put news of all new software releases on the site then we would have a lot of articles about new software and not many about everything else that slashdot is great for.
Having major* packages** on slashdot is a good thing, its hard to spot them among the long list of packages that pops up on freshmeat every day.
If you want info on new software pay a visit to freshmeat, leave shashdot for progs that are likely to stir up the OS market a little.
BTW, I downloaded Nautilus last night and in the five minutes I had to play with it before having to leave to catch a bug, I decided it was great. Lets see how it works out over the longer term.
* Everything is subjective so major packages are those that are perceived as being high-visibility.
** Like new releases of Desktop environments [and their core components]... and Mozilla... and the Kernel... and any software I write;)
a) use an email client that gives easy access to mail headers like mutt (you can get to them in {shiver} Outlook but it isn't as easy
b) Pay a visit to http://www.spamcop.net/ and run the mail through their service. SpamCop will check the ip addresses and compose emails to relevent abuse addresses for you.
I believe that the best people to decide what needs to be in documentation are the people who are learning to use it themselves. People who have experience will find it very easy to leave out a small but vital stage that prevents the entire HOWTO from working correctly.
So I would suggest that somebody (I don't have time for another project) set up a site (maybe a sub section of linuxdoc.org) for DUN = this or that or that and this is how you use them, and that all the submitted material is tested or written by newbies.
This is just going to open the door for people to grab domains and sell them back at horribly inflated prices if the owner is late with payment.
Remember when hotmail.com didn't get reregistered in time? A nice person bought it and pointed it towards the `correct' servers, maybe next time somebody will not be so lucky.
A couple of years ago a magazine, possible this one, did a test of various filtering packages.
The one point that stuck in my mind was that one worked on detecting flesh tones, as a result is let black and white pornography through as safe, but blocked close ups of peoples faces.
Perhaps people grinning could scare little children? And maybe by virtue of being in greyscale a picture becomes art instead of pornography.
I haven't tried Galeon yet, so I can't comment on the back button, but I will say that becuase it uses Mozilla as the rendering engine OF COURSE the links will break in the same way. Once Mozilla is finished and bug free then Galeon will soon follow.
Another favourite trick is: "I'm not trying to sell you anything but would you mind answering a few questions?" "Umm. OK." (Big Mistake) "If we were to offer you a whatever it is with a 30% discount, would you be interested?"
Java virtual machines? Every major OS has now successfully integrated Java, but now Windows can't? Does that mean I have to run my Java apps within IE, or application providers have to include a VM with their package?
IMNSHO this is a good thing. Microsoft has reportedly implemented a broken Windows only form of Java, just like they implemented ie only propriety code without fully supporting current standards. By forcing Microsoft to leave Java out of the box the way is opened up for the user to think "I need Java, lets choose", and choices such as Sun's or IBM's implementation of Java come in to the picture, just like forcing Microsoft to leave ie out leaves the way for the user to realise "I need a web browser, lets choose."
If you copy something and by doing do devalue someone else's legally obtained original, then you have taken some of the value of their item away from them. Sounds like it the above description of stealing to me.
Unless it has an NX designation in the manor of DS9's Defiant, which I am told means it is an experimental ship.

<sigh>
And after writing that long and serious responce.
Next time: RTFC
