    FFXI not real MMO.

    Ummm.. lol? Exactly how is it not an MMO?

    Go look at e.g. WoW, AoC, Warhammer, etc... Not playable with console scheme.

    In what way? All you would do is have macros set to key combos to do things just like the vast majority of people do in other mmos on PCs.

    So it was in the top 4 on the chart for 3 years and has averaged over 3x the subscribers needed to be profitable. Yep, what a huge failure it is.

    Exactly why is a keyboard/mouse required? It's amazing how hundreds of thousands of people had no problems playing FFXI without a keyboard/mouse.

    If you give away the software and make it available for free on various websites, you are in effect giving up your ability to make money by selling the software

    Sure that's trivially obvious but that's not what you said. You said "by releasing it as GPL" which is completely different. Just because you license your software under the GPL doesn't equate to just giving it away for free.

    Not only that, he took the copyright that the law gives him for such software and gave up any ability to make money off it by releasing it as GPL.

    *facepalm* Have you actually read the GPL?

    Does the GPL allow me to sell copies of the program for money? Yes, the GPL allows everyone to do this. The right to sell copies is part of the definition of free software. Except in one special situation, there is no limit on what price you can charge. (The one exception is the required written offer to provide source code that must accompany binary-only release.)

    Yep, it's not as if judges and the Bar only recently got pissed at him. He's been the thorn in the side of the Florida legal system for years and years. He just got way too cocky and he finally is now paying for his years of shenanigans.

    Your statement makes no sense. Civil penalties only have meaning because the government enforces them. If there is no government enforcement they have no force of law.

    "They" shouldn't go after anybody for what is a civil law issue. It is not for the government to enforce. If you violate somebody's copyright, and they sue, that should be it.

    You do realize that it is the government that hands out and enforces those civil penalties right?

    Wrong department. You want to be blaming the compositors - not the rendering technique.

    No, it's very much the right department. When the vast majority of the rendered CGI doesn't even look photorealistic, there isn't anything better compositing is going to do.
